What are the recommended microphones to use with a Ranger II for best audio?

Thank you.

Hello
??? The D-104 is , in our view, a really good choice. The amplified or non-amplified versions both work just fine.

Thank You

I have a couple of these. The amplified version should work with almost all
transceivers. The unamplified version would work well for older radios like the
Ranger, Collins radios, Hammarlund, etc.

I see these at Hamvention every year for $20 and up. Most around $30 to $40. If
you get one with a bad element, I believe crystal replacement elements are
available. Or, you can gut the enclosure and install an electret element, which
can be purchased for less than $5 (some on eBay for much less), or in a kit with
instructions for under $30, or a 5-element array kit for less than $45.

They look nice, and blend in with older equipment, while still looking good with
the newer radios.

I myself do not like the d104 that much to much high end for me. I have replaced the elements with electret and some good foam and it makes for a nicer sounding microphone in my opinon. Also you might want to use a Shure 444 or the still made Shure 450 which is what I used on my ranger / desk kilowatt and Viking 500. The price is usually right on the 450s. Last one I bought was new in the box for 40 dollars.?
