Re: Leaf Cluster
Hello Heather,
I have looked at my actual piece and I do not have any stems to the leaves.? the leaves are big enough to meet the main stem.? if you ant to do the stem them yes it should be in coral knots.? But my advice would be to do what looks good.? Do not worry too much if it is not exactly like the drawing.? For instance if a line is not the shape you want them make it what you want.? if the motif is not quite the shape you like then do what you like.? Remember I am a terrible drawer so sometimes my shapes are not quite right or even. ? Also remember that Schwalm embroidery was a peasant embroidery and not always perfect.? We tend to be too precise sometimes and sometimes the beauty is in the quirkiness.? So do not worry too much about it being perfect but making it look as good as you can. Hope this helps. Regards, Barbara |
Leaf Cluster
Hi Barbara,
I am working my way through the fishbone leaves and there seems to be a discrepancy between the pattern drawing and the completed project/instructions. The pattern shows 5 leaves in the cluster, but the finished model and the photo in the instructions show 7 leaves. The number of leaves isn't really a problem, but in the drawing it shows little stems (one in one cluster, two in the other) that attach the leaf to the main stem. Should those little stems attaching to the main stem be done in coral stitches like the main stem?? Thanks, Heather B |
Re: Left-handed Instructions
In the LH Buttonhole Stitch instructions, the first line says to work Left to Right, but the illustration shows right to left. Am I right that the illustration is correct and the instruction is meant to be Right to Left??
(The RH instructions say Left to Right and the illustration shows left to right.) And by the way, I also appreciate the LH instructions. It's lovely to not have to mentally flip everything. It's especially helpful with stitches like buttonhole, because I've been told with certain threads that it has to be stitched left to right to keep the thread from untwisting. Without the separate instructions, I wouldn't know I could do it the way that's easier for me. |
Re: Confirmation
Ah yes.? I had missed them.? Thank you Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: bmkershaw <bmkershaw@...> To: [email protected] Sent: Sat, 26 Jan 2019 09:37:29 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: [EACDaydreams] Confirmation Hello Kathy, Yes it is a lot of coral knots.? There are also coral knots surrounding the pomegranate and coral knots and chain st around? section "H" in the middle of the pomegranate.? Check out the lower left-hand picture on the second photo page. Barbara |
Fabric
hello Ladies,
I have had a question about the Strathaven linen so although I have replied to Marina I thought I would also let everyone else know.? I think the linen is only called Strathaven linen in the US/Canada.? Although it is the same linen I get mine from Germany and it is Weddigen Linen Article 924.? It is the linen that was traditionally used for Schwalm and does come in a finer 40ct.? I prefer it because it is a dense weave and holds the coral knots on top of the linen beautifully.? With some of the other more open weaves?the knots tend to fall on the holes and disappear making it a lot harder and more frustrating to work with.? You could use the Italian Graziano linen but because it is a finer 40 count you will need to substitute the threads for finer thread.? So when using a 40ct linen or finer you would use the #20 instead of the #16,? #25 instead of the #20 and #30 instead of the #25. Zweigart (and definitely witchlet) tends to be a more open weave although the finer 40 (Newcastle) and 50 count would work with the finer threads. |

Hi.? Wow!? That's a lot of coral knots. :-\
I just want to make sure I have read the pattern correctly before February's instructions come.? On the attachment, the green highlighted part is done in coral knots and the pink highlighted part is done in coral knots and then chain stitch? Thanks in advance. Kathy Taylor |
