Re: Thomas Daniel, born of Josia, son of James & Jenny Hicks Daniel b 1743/44 Albemarle Co, Va, d 1811 Granville Co, NC

Dear Joe,

To begin, I have autosomal matches to Josiah Daniel, b Albemarle Co Va, d 1811 Granville Co NC 1811 and his wife Elizabeth Key b 1746 d. circa 1823 in same counties. He names a son Thomas in his will as a child that has already received his portion from his father. ?I have source documentation for the man who I believe is his grandson, Thomas Cary Daniel, as well as secondary information from my family.?

Thomas Cary Daniel is my 3rd great grandfather. His dob is circa 1810 and I believe in Granville Co or Wake Co NC. He married Mary Shipp, bond 16 Jan 1832 in Wake Co NC. ?He is in the census records 1840, 1850 in Wake Co. and 1860 in Robeson Co. (NB- ‘60 census mistakes his middle initial as R). The name Cary came family associations and misspellings from the Union POW records during his imprisonment. He died at the Union prison camp at Pt. Lookout, St Mary’s Co, MD in 4 Mar 1864. I have documentation for his wife and many of his children to the present day. Thomas Cary’s progeny are found in NC and SC in future generations and those are my folks. I live in the same area of SC.

The problem with this line is proving the generation(s) that should connect Josiah to Thomas Cary. Everywhere, I mean everywhere, the connecting man is referred to as Thomas “Jefferson” Daniel b. circa 1768 in Granville Co NC, d. circa 1831 either in GA or NC. A Thomas Daniel did marry Elizabeth Satterwhite in Granville 29 Jan 1793. (I match to him and the Satterwhites as well). There is documentation for a Thomas Senr by way of deeds and thithables and 1810 census Granville Co and of a son named Thomas Junr. There is reasonable circumstantial evidence from the Daniel, Key, Tandy, Jefferson and Cary families that his middle name likely was Jefferson and this information also explains why my ancestor was named Thomas Cary. That is it as far as I can connect documents in my line. Other children, perhaps all of the sons of this Thomas Jefferson Daniel move into western GA and eastern AL. All info points to the alleged Thos. “Jefferson” being my 4th grandfather. He had his children in NC. His wife did move to GA and died there. He may have also moved to GA the last years of his life.?

Because I am new to this group, I am not sure if this is the proper forum to discuss in further detail our possible connections, but I am eager to do so! I also see that my email address is my forum name…oops. But do get in touch!
