Re: Dick Cooper Time Book - with E.B. King

Absolutely right about the ¡°senior moments¡± !!!

?

The way I see it is if you realize you don¡¯t know, it o.k. But if you don¡¯t know that you don¡¯t know, you are having some serious senior moment symptoms.

?

A bit more ¡°self-analysis¡±: I like to think my memory is still party sharp, but with one exception: Remembering folks¡¯ names. I constantly encounter ?folks who know me by name (maybe from having met even 40 or 50 years ago) but I have no idea who they are !!

?

I don¡¯t know if you ever were acquainted with the late NYS Senator Ron Stafford. Even up to his dying day, the man had an incredible ability to recall names! I wish I had only 10% of that wonderful ability.

?

And of course there are two spellings of Chateaugay (¡°our¡± way) and the Canadian way: Chateauguay.

?

Take it easy

Hi, Wally!

?

You know as well as I do that senior moments are good! It means that we have lived long enough to still think, even if we sometimes get it wrong. Of course, I knew better about the river, but it's been 51 years since I worked at Plattsburgh.

?

In my defense, I can tell another story. About ten years ago I was back on the D&H working a minor bridge issue for the FRA. Bob Conroy, the D&H/CP Bridge Manager, gave me a copy of the current bridge list.

?

I read it real quickly, and then I told Bob, "You're missing a bridge!"

"Huh? Which bridge?"

"Bridge 167.80 over the Saranac River at Plattsburgh."

"Gosh, you are right! How did you find that?"

"Just one of my favorite bridges."

?

I worked on the design of the replacement spans that were installed in 1969.

?

To this day I will never know why the bridge was left off the list, and why I went looking for it. But I will accept an undeserved reputation of still having at least part of my memory in place.

?

Among the two of us and all of our other D&H friends, we are much greater than the sum of the parts.

?

I misspelled Chateaugay :-(

?

Enos B. King and Dick Cooper are looking down on us and smiling.

WE is West End, actually the Freydenburg Falls Branch that joined the original Chateugay Branch west of Bluff Point. It ran downgrade to the Chateugay River and served the Imperial Paper Mill (Wallpaper).
