Fw: Astronomy Picture of the Day (4/06/2025): Moonquakes Surprisingly Common
Astronomy Picture of the Day Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2025 April 6 Moonquakes Surprisingly Common Image Credit: NASA, Apollo 11 Crew Explanation: Why are there so many moonquakes? Analyses of seismometers left on the moon during the Apollo moon landings reveal a surprising number of moonquakes occurring within 100 kilometers of the surface. In fact, 62 moonquakes were detected in data recorded between 1972 and 1977. Many of these moonquakes are not only strong enough to move furniture in a lunar apartment, but the stiff rock of the moon continues to vibrate for many minutes, significantly longer than the softer rock earthquakes on Earth. The cause of the moonquakes remains unknown, but a leading hypothesis include tidal gravity from -- and relative heating by -- our Earth. Regardless of the source, future moon dwellings need to be built to withstand the frequent shakings. Pictured here, Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin stands beside a recently deployed lunar seismometer, looking back toward the lunar landing module. My favorite tool: French Army knife. -Sue Schlesinger, Redwood City, California (sue94070 yahoo.com) My favorite tool in my purse is a small tape measure. Fun story: My husband and I were having a late lunch with our son and his fiancée, and starting (!) to plan their wedding, to take place 27 hours later, at the local beach. I called a florist to ask about flowers for a bouquet, and perhaps a floral circlet for her head (very short hair). Sure, but they needed her head circumference. While on the phone I whipped out my tape measure and we measured. Done! Yes, that meal was our entire planning session. Lovely wedding, 24 people showed up with that short notice (by text message). -Betsy Wilson, El Segundo, California (w_betsy hotmail.com) A toothpick is my favorite tool. Before dining out, I will store a few in the little pocket of my jeans. When a food particle inevitably becomes trapped between my teeth, I can whip one out and easily free it up. -Paul Sheeran, San Francisco, California (p.sheeran1 outlook.com) I have limited dexterity due to decades of severe arthritis, and one of my favorite tools is this dressing aide, called the pocket dresser -- which totally resembles a Swiss Army knife! -Karol Silverstein, West Hollywood, California (karolinas aol.com) Utilikey. Originally $20, on sale at Radio Shack for $5 years ago. You can buy a bunch from China for $1 each. One Phillips and two blade screwdrivers, a bottle opener, a serrated and straight blade, a tiny wrench for your eyeglasses. I give them as thank-yous for guides on trips. Family members know there are replacements if they lose theirs. -Mike Carpenter, Tucson, Arizona (mccarp46 gmail.com) My favorite kitchen tool is my nutcracker. Sure, it opens walnuts and almonds, etc., but best of all it opens screw top bottles and even small, tight jars. -Caroline Di Giovanni, Toronto, Canada (casa.digiovanni sympatico.ca) I can fix anything with the two tools in my toolbox: a checkbook and a phonebook. -Paul Stomieroski, Wausau, Wisconsin (stemo rocketmail.com) I feel positively nαked without my pocket knife, which I’ve carried since my father gave me my first one (of scores) when I was eight. I’m still a little surprised when I see that I’m usually the only person in whatever group I’m in who has a knife. Despite years of seeing otherwise, I still think everyone has one -- how can you get through the day without it? -Bob Gent, Lawrence, Kansas (vitroholic gmail.com) You want me to pick a FAVORITE tool? Impossible! There are so many of them! I used the multitool the other day to fix a cabinet handle in my wife’s hospital room. I checked the tire pressure with the pressure gauge just this morning. The “click” of the torque wrench indicating a bolt is tightened to the proper degree...it’s a bit of chromium-steel peace of mind. But I will acquiesce to your wishes. I will pick the plastic welder tool for this discussion. I have used it countless times to repair something plastic in our home in order to repair and reuse it rather than buy another one. What’s not to love about that? -James Eng, Cypress, Texas (jameseng hotmail.com) My enduring tools would have to be my HP calculators. When I bought my 15C, I made a big joke out of the fact that it was exactly $69 -- a

Fw: God's Plan: Always Seek A Healing Outcome!
From: Gregory Fry Today's Scripture: Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Now very early in the morning, He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him. He sat down, and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst, they told Him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such. What then do You say about her?" They said this testing Him, that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with His finger. But when they continued asking Him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." Again He stooped down, and with His finger wrote on the ground. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle. Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more." --John 8:1-11 There is much controversy concerning this oft-referenced and beloved account in Scripture, including whether it should appear at this particular point in John's Gospel--or elsewhere in it--or not at all. It is beyond my ken to determine the matter, but I will treat it as a matter of Scripture where it commonly occurs in the Johannine sequence--and to further grant it the legitimacy which I believe it deserves as well as the lessons to be drawn from such. My apologies in advance to those who consider me to be overly verbose in my compositions, but in researching this I found separate perspectives that to me each had stand-alone value in their presentation and insights--and at least in and of themselves are fairly concise and to the point. Whether read and reflected on separately or as a single presentation, I hope you will each find one, the other, or perhaps all of them to be of value to you too. **** The scenario is certainly a familiar one. The Pharisees are laying a trap for Jesus in hopes of forcing Him to make one of two responses, both designed to alienate Him from one faction of His followers or another. In this instance, they bring forth a woman caught in the act of adultery and pointed out that Moses's command was to stone such an offender to death. This application of Jewish Law is based upon Leviticus 20:10 and Deuteronomy 22:22–24, which under the Old Covenant did indeed call for the death penalty for adulterers, though not necessarily by stoning (depending on the particulars of the offense) and holds _both_ offenders to this penalty--yet only the woman is brought before Jesus for judgement. Already we see hypocrisy at work. Further hypocrisy will be demonstrated by these same accusers who here cry for the woman's death by stoning as "mandated" by Jewish Law, yet will soon turn to the Roman governor Pilate to carry out their dirty work of executing Jesus under the pretext that only Roman officials can adjudicate and enforce cases for which there is a death penalty! Thus the poor woman brought before Jesus was a mere pawn in their game: their concern was not with rendering a righteous judgement but to trap Jesus in a no-win situation, discredit Him publicly, and secure for themselves the superior status of "religious authority." Jesus, on the other hand, was primarily concerned with the plight of the woman brought before Him and sought an outcome based on healing and reconciliation. One curious aspect of this passage is Jesus--seemingly distracted--drawing or writing in the sand. What He was writing specifically does not appear to have been important, or else it would have been mentioned in the passage. One interpretation is that He was just biding His time--first perhaps allowing passions to cool in hopes of a better outcome, then perhaps waiting for the ramifications of His counter-challenge to sink in to those who tried t

By age three, he would start “randomly performing CPR on his teddies, pumping the bear’s chest”. “So, at the same time he was learning to speak, my husband and I decided to teach him first aid,” said his mother, Danielle. “He was like a sponge. He just picked everything up so quickly.” Jack, quickly grasped the act of CPR, understanding the different recovery positions, and learned how to use a defibrillator. Then, at age seven, the youngster started to lead workshop sessions of his own, overseen by his father and other trainers for their charity, Tamworth Have A Heart, which aims to make automatic defibrillators publicly accessible and train people to use them confidently. Jack teaches both children and adults how to perform CPR and use defibrillators, while also patrolling his town centre and checking that the public defibrillators’ pads and batteries are up to date and fit for use. “His motto was ‘if I can save a life, then you can’,” says Danielle. The sessions often draw 20-40 people and sometimes Jack gives presentations teaching in front of 100 people. He does step-by-step walkthroughs on how to perform CPR with practice dummies laid on the floor, informing people about the dangers—including “looking into patients airways before pumping, in case of vomit or blood”. He gives tutorials on how to operate defibrillators which are used to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest. “He absolutely loves teaching,” Danielle told SWNS news agency. “I’ve never seen him so confident before and the fact he’s helping people to save a life determines him even more. People are very surprised. He gets a lot of positive feedback and even special requests to teach people. I think people appreciate the information coming from a child, as it makes them think that if a 10-year-old can do it, then they can.” Under the name ‘Mini Medic’, Jack has a YouTube channel and a page on TikTok TikTok - Make Your Day posting medical tutorials and training nights for those unable to attend. As a result of his community work, the 10-year-old is a finalist for Children of Courage Birmingham Awards. Looking forward, Danielle said he’s enthusiastic about going to university and being a paramedic. “It’s all he thinks about!” Check out the video below from the news agency SWNS.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYsZnpKAExs Meet the 10-year-old paramedic ? | LOVE THIS!
