Due to the huge number of bubbles in the beverage (around 1 million per flute, a scientist estimated in 2014), Champagne bottles require thick glass to avoid cracking under the gas¡¯ pressure. But over the past 100 years or so, manufacturers have been able to decrease bottle sizes while keeping the glass intact. Fw: ¡®Next Level Chef¡¯ recap: APR 24
From: Sharon Pohlman My pick is Beatrice. .I hated to see Amav go. ¡®Next Level Chef¡¯ recap: A fan favorite cooks their last dish in ¡®Tapas In¡¯ Denton Davidson Reality TV April 24, 2025 Tonight on Next Level Chef: As the culinary battle continues, the chefs make bold moves, including strategic utilization of the advantageous time token. This week, the chefs experiment with Spanish cuisine, starting with tapas and a mid-round platform drop resulting in a classic pairing. In the elimination round, three chefs carry on their Spanish preparations, serving up vibrant plates of paella in the all-new "Tapas In" episode of Next Level Chef airing Thursday, April 24 (8:00-9:02 PM ET/PT) on Fox.The Teams Each week professional chefs, home chefs, and social media chefs have seconds to grab, minutes to cook, and moments to deliver their dishes to mentors Gordon Ramsay, Richard Blais, and Nyesha Arrington. Who will rise to the challenge? And who's dream will go up in smoke? See the teams (with previously eliminated contestants crossed out) below. Team Ramsay Name Age Background Arnav 19 Home Chef Beatrice 18 Pro Chef Meg 33 Social Media Chef Mistie 41 Social Media Chef Ryan 22 Pro ChefTeam Arrington Name Age Background Becca 27 Social Media Chef Bobby 38 Social Media Chef Cathy 30 Home Chef Iman 35 Pro Chef Natalia 28 Home ChefTeam Blais Name Age Background Austin 30 Pro Chef Brandon 36 Pro Chef Jeff 35 Social Media Chef Maryam 31 Home Chef Megan 37 Home Chef The Challenge The chef-testants will have to "pack a punch" in small bites because tonight is all about tapas! They'll all have 30 minutes to create two tantalizing Next Level tapas dishes ¡ª one meat and one seafood. As the top chefs last week, Beatrice and Bobby will cook on the Top Level. Megan, Brandon and Austin secured spots on the Middle Level. Meanwhile, Arnav and Ryan will have to cook their way out of the Basement Level. Beatrice also has a time token advantage that allows her an extra 10 seconds at the platform ¡ª or the option to take 10 seconds away from someone else. Beatrice takes this opportunity to penalize Austin, hoping to sabotage him for the second week in a row. Last week, she took his shrimp. This week, she wants to punish him at the platform while he's already feeling under the weather. Once again, Austin is pissed! This rivalry is heating up! When the platform drops, Bobby is thrilled with his grab of salt cod and pork cutlet. Beatrice takes a pork chop and jumbo shrimp. Down a level, Megan snags chicken thighs and oysters while Brandon picks up ground wagyu beef and octopus. Ten seconds later, Austin gets flank steak and mussels. In the Basement, Arnav is forced to grab lamb kidneys and sardines while Ryan is left with pigs ears and hake fish. For the mid-round platform drop, the chef-testants must take whatever they need to make an amazing sangria. Tapas go great with a cocktail ¡ª but two of the contestants aren't even old enough to drink! As time expires, each chef successfully places their dish on the platform to be judged.Top Dishes The best tapas of the night belong to Austin (mussels and flank steak) and Megan (chicken thighs and oysters), who will both be cooking on the Top Level next week. Gordon then reveals that Megan is the winner of the time token ¡ª allowing her to take extra time for herself or penalize a competitor in the next challenge. Elimination Cook-Off Three tapas dishes weren't up to par: Brandon's wagyu meatballs, Arnav's lamb kidneys, and Bobby's salt cod and pork cutlet. For the elimination cook-off, these three will continue the Spanish theme and put their own spin on paella. They have just 25 minutes to earn their place back in the competition. After the high-stakes cook-off, Nyesha and Richard judge each dish. Arnav's paella with head-on prawns, squid, and chorizo is "authentic" but "lacks depth." Brandon's paella with chicken, mussels, and smoked sausage has a "smoky depth of flavor" and tastes like "each grain of rice has been cared for." Bobby's paella with octopus, clam, and Italian sausage is "balanced," but a little bit over

Fw: 'Top Chef' Season 22 Episode 7 Elimination Results: April 24
From: Sharon Pohlman 'Top Chef' Season 22 Episode 7 Elimination Results: Who Was Sent to 'Last Chance Kitchen'? Top Chef: Destination Canada whittled nine cheftestants down to eight on Thursday's (April 24) episode, titled "You Wanna Pizza Me?" It was the cooking competition show's very first pizza party elimination challenge. Andrea Reiher Top Chef: Destination Canada whittled nine cheftestants down to eight on Thursday's (April 24) episode, titled "You Wanna Pizza Me?" It was the cooking competition show's very first pizza party elimination challenge. Some chefs rose to the occasion beautifully, while others struggled. Read on to find out which chef was sent to Last Chance Kitchen, but be warned of spoilers ahead. This week's Elimination Challenge proved tricky. As contestant Bailey Sullivan said, "Pizza may seem simple, but it's truly an art form."After tasting everyone's pizzas, the regular judges plus guest judges Chef Wylie Dufresne and Chef Spike Mendelsohn chose Henry Lu, Paula Endara and Cesar Murillo as the bottom 3, and ultimately, Chef Lu was sent packing. Tristan Epps was named the winner of the challenge for his pizza that featured an anchovy ranch dipping sauce that the judges said was so good that he could bottle it and sell it. Epps now has immunity next week; it's the last immunity of the season. Regarding Chef Lu, what really did him in was his shopping time at Whole Foods. He accidentally didn't buy enough flour, and the dough he was able to make didn't rise correctly, so he pivoted to sushi pizza. His idea was to crisp up sushi rice to make a crust and then lean into the flavors of pho, a traditional Vietnamese soup made with noodles and thinly-sliced beef. Lu's pizza consisted of pho-flavored sushi rice pizza with pho-marinated brisket, herb pesto and hoisin sriracha aioli, plus he folded foie gras into the brisket. The judges thought the flavors were OK (but not great), but the sushi rice crust completely fell a part, so they didn't think he really presented them with an actual pizza, which was the challenge. Mendelsohn praised Lu for taking a big swing, but host and judge Kristen Kish commented that she thought Lu "wasn't leaning into the pho flavor" enough. Judge Gail Simmons said the pizza was "really just eating like a tartare with extra herbs." "It was just a rice dish. It was somewhat tasty, but it was a rice dish with raw beef on top. It was round, that's all you could say for how it approximated pizza," added judge Tom Colicchio. On his way out, Lu acknowledged that without having enough flour to make a proper pizza dough, he was "cooking to survive" rather than putting forth his best effort. "I did a pizza challenge with no real pizza. I'm going home because I didn't make what I wanted to make. I was cooking to survive," said Lu, adding, "I've never challenged myself in this kind of way before. Top Chef pushed me to my absolute limit, but I won't give up. Just because something's hard doesn't mean I'm going to stop."He'll have a chance to return if he is successful in Last Chance Kitchen, but Lu can take heart in the fact that he won the Quickfire Challenge this week, so he left Top Chef with $10,000 for winning this week's Quickfire with his mochi dessert treat that he made with maple, butter and oats. Fw: Astronomy Picture of the Day (4/24/2025): NGC 6164: A Dragon's Egg
Astronomy Picture of the Day Discover the cosmos! Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer. 2025 April 24 NGC 6164: A Dragon's Egg Image Credit & Copyright: Daniel Stern Explanation: Beautiful emission nebula NGC 6164 was created by a rare, hot, luminous O-type star, some 40 times as massive as the Sun. Seen at the center of the cosmic cloud, the star is a mere 3 to 4 million years old. In another three to four million years the massive star will end its life in a supernova explosion. Spanning around 4 light-years, the nebula itself has a bipolar symmetry. That makes it similar in appearance to more common and familiar planetary nebulae - the gaseous shrouds surrounding dying sun-like stars. Also like many planetary nebulae, NGC 6164 has been found to have an extensive, faint halo, revealed in this deep image of the region. Expanding into the surrounding interstellar medium, the material in the halo is likely from an earlier active phase of the O star. This gorgeous telescopic view is a composite of extensive narrow-band image data, highlighting glowing atomic hydrogen gas in red and oxygen in greenish hues, with broad-band data for the surrounding starfield. Also known as the Dragon's Egg nebula, NGC 6164 is 4,200 light-years away in the right-angled southern constellation of Norma.
