New Lathe owner Dalton 6

Hello Dalton Folks

I found this lathe in Grass Valley, California for $300. Posted a photo album "daron dalton 9x4" No gears but includes lot of tooling. I just wanted something for making nicer aluminum spacers and lightening gears for Alfa Romeo gearboxes. I have no idea how to lathe so it will be an adventure. It was very rusty when I got it but cleaning up to working state. Crossfeed lead nut worn and has some slop.

Trying to understand how to operate the powered cross-feed independently of the main feed. I suspect the "clutch" is stuck so may have to take the apron off and tinker a bit there.

regards Daron?

Hi Daron.??

OK I have two dalton 9 and one parts lathe and have had the apron gear box apart so ask away should be able to answer your questions.? ?The small knob just to the left of the feed clutch knob is for activating the power cross feed.? When you pull it out it will switch the feed from longitudinal?to cross feed.? ?Power for the power feed function comes from the lower drive shaft under the threading lead screw and not the lead screw.?

One other thing Daron the Dalton 9 and the Lot 6 share the same set of change gears.
