Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
Someone mentioned Lot 5¡¯s didn¡¯t have the lot number stamped on them. So you can pretty well date to mid to late 20¡¯s with that configuration and style casting. The fairly high SN likely means

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
I suspect the serial number was filed off. In any case, your information suggests a production date of about 1925, which is close enough to assuage my curiosity. So thank you very much. John

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
Yes. From all I have read that is where the serial numbers and type of lathe is stamped on these. Here is a pic of mine but mine has no type number just a serial number of 6194.

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
Don, Do you mean numbers on the tailstock end of the bed? I honestly have not examined the tailstock itself for numbers. I have attached a photo of my lathe. Thanks, John

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
John you have no numbers on the tail stock? So far I have only seen one other example of a seven inch and that is the one Matt posted on this thread. I am still looking for a good bench for it. I hope

I'll be watching the responses to your inquiry with interest. Your lathe looks identical to mine with the same patent number plate and the plain apron. Most of the Daltons seem to have the cast

I would get a quick change tool post set. I am not sure what size works with a Dalton. https://www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-17-Piece-Quick-Change-Tool-Post-Set/T10166 wrote:

Taper and cut off tool
I have 2 questions.? What is the Morse taper in the tailstock of a lot 5? Also, I really need a cut-off tool.? All I have is the original tool holder (that holds 1/4 inch HSS), so I suspect

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
Must be a replacement motor then. I would go with a manufacturing date of 1925-26 for your lathe. It is really close to ours. Sent from my HTC

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
The motor is a Roan 1/4 hp. It is a model S 6797 and the serial number is 4468 and I see a 2? 45 under that (Could be a date?). Maybe it is a replacement motor. It still runs fine and I love the

I have looked at the tail stock and all that is there is a serial number. It is 6194, nothing else is stamped on it that I see. I will look again but I am just about positive that there is nothing

Re: Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
The key thing is to identify your lot number. Dalton assigned serials numbers by lot number. Lots sequences are 1-5. You can find the lot # stamped on the tail stock end of the ways. Looks like

Don you have definitely found THE place for Dalton fu. Recently we had a discussion on how our lathes were powered as most were in early shops with Line Shafts originally. my contribution to this

Thanks. I have sense found out that Dalton crashed with the stock market in 1929 so mid 20's is right. How was the one your son did powered? was there another set of flat belt pullys driven by the

Don, my son refurbished his 7¡± lathe, number 6034, last year for a school project. Pull the serial off the old motor, it looks original. I believe our motor was manufactured in Oct 1925. You¡¯ll

Dalton 7" Lathe I Just bought
Hi. I just bought a 7" Dalton lathe. The serial number is 6194. I plan to set it up and make parts for my antique fans with it. Anyone know how old it is. The last pat date is 1922. Any info on it
