Pretty much what I found. It could be the thread on the cone is bottomed out.
I will take pix when next I remove the apron in a week or so.Must clear a space to work firstLarry

Thanks Dennis, the "threadless nuts" are working good so OK for now. I wanted to see what kind of work the old Combination machine would do so I put a 3" slab mill on it. The old girl did a nice job.

OK Larry lets see if I can explain this apron? gear box.? The cone clutch rides on two pins that are pressed into the worm gear.? The inside of the cone has a thread and when you rotate the handle

Well, then, I have a problem.? When fully engaged the carriage does not move under power but does by hand.

OK to the age of your Lot 4 Dalton the end door tells me it was built after 1922 as that is when Dalton started using that door on the Lot 5 lathe that came out that year.? Check your patent

In looking through all my Dalton literature I find that the base your offering was not offered for the Lot 2 lathe but came out in 1914 for the Lot 4 lathe.? You? base is a foot powered pedestal
