I found a video of the USS Olympia¡¯s on a ship machine shop. I do not think the lathe is Dalton, but, the Olympia was a US Cruiser from the 1890s and the machine shop is a typical line shaft shop

JOHN i asked this very question recently here is Dennis Turk¡¯s answer: For the spindle its 1 1/4 - 12 threads per inch. This size is for the Lot 2 3 4 and 5. Lot 6 and the Dalton 9 is 1 7/8 - 8.

An excellent video, I can see the error of my ways, she suggest using the tailstock to create the test piece but my tailstock at present has far too mush play in the barrel.

Hi Bryan OK as to your lathe cutting a taper. Your bed I assume is bolted to your table. If so you have twisted the bed. So if the end of your work piece is smaller than at the chuck here is

Hi John OK the cone pulley as its called is made a little differently than other brands of lathes. For one the gear is cut on a long cast iron bushing that is pressed into the three step cone
