Hello everybody,

I have a quick question. I was on the Oldarn website when I came
across pictures of Andy Sargent's B-4. What caught my attention was the
belt on the unit. It is green and yellow. Here is the link... even
though I think everyone has seen it
Is this still a leather
belt with a felt like underside? Does anyone know where I could get
this belt? The one on mine is making me a bit nervous. It seems that
the staple or whatever it is has a rather large gap. Thanks for the
help.

Greetings everybody.

Dennis, again I would like to thank you for your hospitality and kindness yesterday. I completely enjoyed the tour of your facilities and all the amazing machines and stories
you shared with me.

I am sure it is public knowledge, but if not, Dennis is a true gentleman. It pleases me to no
end that there is a group of people out there that are saving and restoring antique
machine tools. I am very grateful that Dennis was willing to part with such a beautiful
machine as well as share his expertise with a newbie like myself.

I will post photos as soon as I get her cleaned up.

Sincerely,
Tai West

Hi all

Well we have a new Dalton guy that just got his lathe tonight. I
sold
Tai West a very nice original approx 1924 Lot 4 lathe and I believe
the serial number was 4280. No dings in the bed ways and you can see
original scraping over 80% or better of the bed. The spindle
bearings look really good and still had some shim. Spindle bearing
journals were smooth and no scoring. The spindle thread looked like
new and the chuck fit tight as drum. He got a complete set of change
gears with the lathe as well as a three jaw chuck original tool post
and a few tool holders. He also got the original cone counter shaft
pulley and the original counter shaft bearing standards. Really kind
of hated to see the lathe go but one must pass on these machines to
willing and able new owners.

I got this lathe a couple of years ago right after I finished up John
Glands Dalton restoration. John picked the lathe up and shipped it
on to me. One of the very best I have. As I have so many of them I
figure we need to pass some along to younger guys that are interested
in restoration and maybe just a little use of the machine after
completion.

I hope Tai adds a few pictures to the photo file after he gets the
lathe home and cleaned up. He should be about 1/4 the way back to
Seattle about now.

New Dalton owner

Dennis Turk

Dalton lathe needs a good new home.

Hi everyone, I have an old Dalton Model Six lot 4 lathe that I am
selling on eBay.

I must admit I didn't really know anything about it until I posted it
for sale. I have been using it in my garage to fabricate and modify
parts over the last couple of years. I bought it from an engineer
that worked for GE in Cincinnati, OH. and when I moved to Cape Coral,
FL it followed me here.

Check out my listing if you are interested. eBay item 320242112156 I
also have a bunch of photos here:

Email me with any questions you might have and I will do my best to
answer them.

I would like to see this great old machine go to a collector that will
enjoy it!

?
That tool post works great on my B-4.? I use two different tools for making the fife ferrules, One to turn and taper to final diameter and another for making scored lines.? Turning one Nickel Silver ferrule complete witih the Dalton takes about 4 minutes. So every 4 minutes I have two tool changes.? I'll be turning tonight and will take some pictures of what this tool post looks like mounted on the Dalton
?
I have also thought of getting one of these for my South bend.

I have purchased several of Little machineshop Phase II hobby tool post but I have used them on 9 inch South Bend workshop lathes but not on a Lot 4 Dalton.? They work great on a Lot 6 ?8-1/2 inch lathe but I think they are a little overkill on a Lot 2-3-4?or Lot 5?7-1/4 inch machine.? Not to mention they are almost two times the price though they are a very high quality tool post. The smaller $89 dollar plunger model I find is well suited to the Lot?2-3-4-and 5?lathe and though not near the quality of the Phase II it is a good value for the dollar and will work great on your small lathe.

I purchased a Phase II Hobby Toolpost from Littlemachineshop.com
and its wotking out fine for me. made from hardened steel

ProductID=2401&category=-419988835

Had to make/modify the flat nut that fits into the bottom slot of the
dalton. If I recall correctly I made a new one out of flat steel so
it fits in the slot

I want to put a quick change tool post on my Dalton lathe. Has anyone
done this and what model did you use. I checked the size 100 and it
seems it may be too big and not allow the holders to go low enough to
be on center. At least it looks that way from the dimensions in the
catalog. Are the mini lathe QCT posts too amall? I hate the thought of

collet nose piece

Ron Wright

Hi All, forgive me if this message appears twice I haven't got the hang
of this site yet (what do you expect from a retired IBM engineer?).
Thank you Dennis for your comments and help in dating my LOT2 Dalton.
To answer your query my lathe requires a nose piece for holding the
collets. This was unfortunately missing but when I looked in the box of
collets there was a bright shiny one I made all those years ago and
which I had clean forgotten about.
Regards to all,
Ron Wright.

Hi All,
Well now Mr. Wright has a very rare Dalton indeed. Also one of the
most complete Lot 2 machines we have seen. As top collector of
Dalton's I only have a few parts to one but he has the complete
lathe
with lots of bits and pieces. Looks Good Ron and thanks for
posting
pictures.

One other thing Ron does your lathe have a nose piece to hold the
collets or do they seat right into the end of the spindle. I have
a
Lot 2 spindle were Dalton put the collet seat right into the
spindle in
place of the 3MT. I have never seen another one like it.

collectors
item. It came with chuck, face plate, 32 collets and closer and
30
change wheels. Only just found this site so didn't know Dalton's
