Nobody asked me
Here are a few items I never asked for: 1. T shirts with no tags. Hard to see which is the front or back of the t shirt. It was easier just to feel the tag. Now without the tag I sometimes put on the t shirt backwards. 2. Pants with pleats. What a waste of material. 3. Pants with cuffs. Another waste of material. 4. Shirts with no pockets. What a dumb idea. Pockets are useful as a place in which to place pretzels from Tractor Supply Co. 5. Shoes with shoelaces so long I have to double tie the knot to keep the knots tied or they come loose and I trip over my own two feet. 6. Neckties. They are only good for funeral attendance. 7. Cell phones with too many features. I only want a cell phone for phone conversations and voice messages. How do you buy a cell phone without the texting feature? Maybe I need a Maxwell Smart shoe phone instead. 8. CFL lightbulbs. What's wrong with Thomas Edison bulbs? 9. Gasoline with ethanol. What a brilliant concept. Use our corn supply to make gasoline which results in lower mpg and increases the cost of our food supply. What other dingbat inventions, etc. may bother you? Nothing else to do today on this drizzly day but digress. Have a mundane day. The WEASELmeister

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hi Keith: Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm glad they enjoyed. That means a lot coming from you and your Dad - as you and your whole family are musicians. Their Activity Dir, Kathy Smucker, told me to let her know when I come back into the area again - as I may get to go back again sometime. Happy New Year to you and your wife, Keith and to all other Class Members - Hope this will be a wonderful, blessed year for all of us! Met her boyfriend as well and he took our picture together, which she sent me a copy of it. Also, Barbara Gerber, a relative for sure of Karen Gerber's. She was in my Mom's class at school, so not sure if an Aunt or what. Then, Mary Shane, a sister to Cookie was there also. Plus there were some other wonderful people there including the Activity Director, Kathy Smucker,(for Independent Sr. group) who was a "sweetheart" of a person. I sang in front of the Christmas tree and it was a wonderful experience. Again, Merry Christmas - got to get to bed - have lots to do in the morning. P.S. My babysitter when I was young, June Ressler Hiner, got to be the Grand Marshall in the Dalton Christmas parade held after I left. I was so happy for her to be chosen to do that. She was at my Buehler's concert as well. Linda Fahrney Freeland

Snow
2
We got 9” of snow for Christmas, and it was beautiful, and it’s snowing again today. This is very unusual for us as we never have snow that stays on the ground more than a day. This is the first white Christmas that Atlanta has had in 125 years! We didn’t get to see our grandson as planned so will try for New Year’s instead. Happy New Year everyone, Barb

2010 Review/2011 Preview
Per Patricia's request, here are our 2010 highlights and 2011 preview: 2010 Review: Jan-went to Walmart and Costco Feb-ditto to above Mar-ditto to above Apr-ditto to above and also went to Fiesta in San Antonio. Also took a day trip to Rocksprintgs, Tx just because we have never been there before. On the way back to Boerne, we stopped to see Stonehenge replica in Ingram, Tx before it is dismantled. May-ditto to Mar and also went to Kerrville Folk Festival. We go there every year and are probably Kerrverts by now. Amazing to see so many hippie, weirdos, and old people (like us) plus Obama bumper stickers (mostly on old VW vans). They still sell dye-tie t shirts there also. Jun-ditto to Mar. Also mowed our lawn. Jul-ditto to Jun above. Aug-ditto to Jul above. Aug-ditto to Jul plus we went to visit Lanny for his 70th birthday party in Az. On the way back to Boerne, we stopped in Las Cruces, NM and found a pepper store where we bought dried chili peppers and also green Hatch peppers--yum. Then we stopped at a bed & breakfast in Balmorhea, Tx. Would you believe the owner is a food broker/other stuff broker and deals with Peter Dunn's in Dalton? He also sells Laird Ranch jelly (made by Troyer's in Holmes County). Small world indeed. Sep-ditto to July plus we went to Hawaii (big island of Hawaii and also Maui). Rose has always wanted to go to Hawaii so I finally gave in--and glad I did. The sunsets in Maui are for real. Oct-ditto to July and also went to the International Accordion Festival in San Antonio. It is an annual event and would recommend it to everyone (even though I don't really like accordions). Where else can you see a group who sings punk rock /conjunto music with accordions? Nov-ditto to July plus we went to Wurstfest in new Braunfels, Tx. Good accordion music, sausage and beer extravaganza. Dec-ditto to July and we plan to go to the annual Tuba Christmas Festival on the Riverwalk at the Arneson Theater. Probably 100 or so tubas of various shapes and sizes with performers from ages of 8-80 performing. Would highly recommend this to everyone. 2011 Preview: No clue yet what we will do next year. For sure, go to Walmart (Wally World) and Costco. Tentative plans are to drive the perimeter of USA and stop in Washington, DC to visit my sister. Then on to Boston to see our daughter. Then probably to Dalton to see my brother. Then who knows what from there. Maybe North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota just because we have never been there. Merry Christmas to all, John (aka Weaselmeister)

Cheesy lighted Christmas wreaths circa 1959
10
Help! As I was putting up my new eco-friendly dim C7 outside multi-colored Christmas lights outside last week, I thought back to the 50's and what kind of decorations we used to have at our home. These new eco-freak lights save a lot of energy but they are very hard to see (especially if a person has cataracts such as I). Finally I had the flashback about the cheesy artificial green wreaths with a light in it (orange or yellow I think) and how it might somehow look nifty today. So I surfed the internet for these cheesy wreaths and alas no luck finding them. I think all the Christmas stuff got trashed when my mother moved from her house to the nursing homes a few years ago. Anybody remember of which I speak? (Miss Campbell would be proud that I did not end my question with a preposition). May the spirit of Christmas past be with you all, The Weaselmeister (has returned to the group after a few months of non-participating--more junk to follow as I reflect on life's futilities).

Dalton

I give up, what is a Nutty Muffet????? Enquiring minds want to know. My Dad is in a nursing home in Massillon and we hope to get to Dalton sometime in January, if the weather allows it! I’m retiring the end of the year so looking forward to time for myself! Barb

Let the countdown begin
Here are some memorable dates forthcoming from my viewpoint. Christmas 2010 is only 17 days away. Kwanzaa 2010 begins in only 18 days and lasts from 12/26 to 01/01. Kwanzaa also coincides with Boxing Day (December 26) which is observed in Canada and other places I guess. Spring 2011 occurs on March 20--a paltry 87 days away. Hope all you snow freaks won't be disheartened that winter will supposedly end by then. Benito Juarez' birthday occurs on March 21--just 88 days into the future. Earth Day 2011 is a scant 129 days away on April 22. That's the day when I turn on all my lights at my house and drive countless miles in my carbon-belching vehicles in protest. Chairman Maobama's presidency is finally over in only 2235 days on 01/20/17. This assumes that term limits are not eliminated in the meantime. Otherwise his reign will go on indefinitely. Hillary Clinton becomes President on 01/20/17 as the torch is passed from BHO to HRC--also only 2235 days away. Likewise, this assumes that BHO is not in office still. Tidings of joy to you all, The Curmudgeon Weaselmeister

Do you remember? It ain't like it was.
"Do You Remember These?" Do you remember Dalton High? Do you remember the Dalton football program? Do you remember the football field, bleachers, bands, etc? The last high scholl games we went to was in the late 80's when our son was on the team. All this was on a normal field and program. Today we went to a State playoffs between Steele H.S. Knights and the Brandeis Broncos. The game was played in the Alamodome in San Antonio, in front of 10,000 people. If I did not know better I would have thought we were going to watch a professional game. Large replay screens, big announcers, professional looking umps and camera crews. Two hundred plus members of each of the bands, about 50 ball players on each team, 12 coaches of each team, trainors. This is the same enclosed stadium where the San Antonio Spurs played. The Knights had a running back by the name of Malcom Brown, rated one of the best in the USA. The Broncos had a right tackle on offense at 6'6" and 322 lbs. I could have swore I was watching a televised, yes it was on TV and radio, college game. Terxas football is a big business. I would not trade it for the wonderful time we had at our Dalton High years. Lanny

Thanksgiving Activities - from Linda Fahrney Freeland aka "Patsy Cline"
7
Hi Everybody: Have not written anything on here in a while. News...I'm going back home to good old Dalton for Thanksgiving with my Mom and Sister, Cyndee, on 11/22 and back to Dallas on 11/30. Wondered if anybody else is going to Dalton for the holiday. Of course, some live there. I have booked a couple of "Gigs" while I am home - in case anybody would like to attend... 1) Attn: Any classmates that have parents at "OrrVilla". I will be performing there on MON., NOV. 29, 2010 12:45-1:30 PM doing a "Combo" show (including some Patsy Cline, Old Standards, Gospel). 45 Min. performance will be after a Pizza lunch that they are having. If you are in town then and have parents living there, then you could attend. Let your parents know about it! Think it will be fun! 2) This one is open to anyone - as long as there is space in the room-- (other one (11/29) just those connected with Orrvilla). Have reserved "Community Room" at Buehlers in Orrville for a "free concert" for family, friends, and the public (as many as room will hold) for: SAT., NOV. 27, 2010 (Saturday after Thanksgiving)starting approximately 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon. Have room reserved till 1:15 pm for those that may want to stay & have lunch with us (my family & friends of my family). I will start setting up at 10:30 am and if you want to get in, I would be there at least by 10:45 a.m. There will be a few flyers here and there advertising it, but I have no idea how many may come. There will be a few flyers here and there advertising it, but I have no idea how many may come. Not sure, but room may hold about 25-30. Just wanted ya'll to know. Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Linda F.

If You never................
THIS IS AWESOME ENJOY If you never felt pain, then how would you know that I am a Healer? If you never had to pray, how would you know that I am a Deliverer? If you never had a trial, how could you call yourself an overcomer? If you never felt sadness, how would you know that I am a Comforter? If you never made a mistake, how would you know that I am a forgiver? If you knew all, how would you know that I will answer your questions? If you never were in trouble, how would you know that I will come to your rescue If you never were broken, then how would you know that I can make you whole? If you never had a problem, how would you know that I can solve them? If you never had any suffering, then how would you know what I went through? If you never went through the fire, then how would you become pure? If I gave you all things, how would you appreciate them? If I never corrected you, how would you know that I love you? If you had all power, then how would you learn to depend on me? If your life was perfect, then what would you need me for? Love, Jesus Please forward this mail of Jesus to as many friends as you can. THE RULES OF RURAL OHIO
THE RULES OF RURAL OHIO ARE AS FOLLOWS: Listen up City Slickers! 1. Pull your droopy-ass pants up. You look like an idiot. 2. Turn your cap around straight ... your head isn't crooked. 3. Let's get this straight; it's called a 'dirt road' I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way. 4. They are cattle. They're live steaks. That's why they smell funny to you. But they smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I-75 & I-71 & I-77 go north and south use em. 5. So you have a $60,000 car ... we're impressed. We have $150,000 corn pickers that are driven only 3 weeks a year. 6. So every person in rural Ohio waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept. 7. If that cell phone rings while an 8-point buck and 3 does are coming in, we WILL shoot it out of your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time. 8. Yeah, we eat taters & gravy, beans & biscuits, and homemade pie. You really want sushi & caviar? It's available at Jim's bait shop. 9. The 'Opener' refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November. 10. We open doors for women. That is applied to all women, regardless of age. 11. No, there's no 'vegetarian special' on the menu. Order steak or chicken. Or, you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham & turkey. 12. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices - salt, pepper, and ketchup. Oh, yeah .. We don't care what you folks in New York call that stuff you eat .... IT AIN'T REAL CHILI!! 13. You bring 'coke' into my house, it better be brown, wet and served over ice. 14. You bring ' Mary Jane' into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long blonde hair. 15. Ohio State and high school football are as important here as the Browns and the Steelers and more fun to watch. 16 Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards .... it spooks the fish. 17. Colleges? We have them all over. We have Ohio State Universities , Ohio University,Community Colleges, and Voc-techs. They come outta there with an education plus a love for God and Country, and they still wave to everybody when they come home for the holidays. 18. Turn down that blasted car stereo! That thumpity-thump crap ain't music anyway. We don't want to hear it any more than we want to see your boxers. (Refer back to #1.) 19. Four inches of snow isn't a blizzard - it's a flurry. Drive in it like you got some sense, and DON'T take all our bread, milk, and bleach off the grocery shelves. This ain't Alaska ! Worst case ... you may have to live a whole day without croissants. Anyway ... the pickups with snowplows will have you out the next day. 20. By the way ... if you want to talk to God in Ohio , it's a local call. :) A true Buckeye will send this on!!! Chilling News from Ohio & I would think other states as well......
from a friend in Ohio .............. Just thought I would share with you a little bit of what we heard at last night's Republican dinner here in Crawford County , Ohio . John Kasich (running for Gov. of Ohio ) was the keynote speaker. Also present were many politicians, most notably, Bob Latta, our U.S. Congressman. Mike and I walked up to Bob and thanked him for his conservative voting record and voiced our concern about what is going on in Washington . He made some funny botox remarks about Pelosi and then agreed with us that we have every reason to be concerned. As there were others waiting to talk to him, our time was brief. Although what took place later that evening should make chills run up and down everyone's spine to hear. He had asked to speak a few words at the end of the night and went up on stage. He proceeded to tell the crowd how bad things really are in Washington . He said he only had a few minutes to speak, but if he could tell us even half of what the agenda is and what this administration plans to do to our country we couldn't sleep at night. He said he only gets about 4 to 4-1/2 hours of sleep a night and worries constantly about what they want to do to this country. He said that Pelosi, Reid and Obama have to be stopped. He said, "You know, you always hear this is the most important election blah blah blah, but I am telling you people...whatever you have to do to wake people up you need to do! We have got to vote them out in 2010 or with the things they have planned for this country we won't even be a country by 2020! Ten years. You could see the look of almost desperation on his face. He talked about the huge debt. He talked about how the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) gets their "figures". He sits on the finance committee of some sort and listens to the ramblings of Geitner and Bernanke. He said "If you think that the Chinese won't hold this over us with all our debt you have another thought coming. Our children will have nothing. I don't care if you have to go out door to door, tell at least 10 people who will then tell 10 people. We have to do this. This is the single most important election ever in the history of this country. The change that Obama promised us is NOT the change people thought he meant." WELL, I’VE JUST SENT THIS OUT TO EVERYONE ON MY DISTRIBUTION LIST! WILL YOU DO THE SAME? WE CAN GET RID OF MOST OF THE BAD GUYS IN CONGRESS THIS NOVEMBER, INCLUDING “FANCY NANCY ”. LET’S DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME . Make sure you VOTE and everyone you know votes!!!

WD-40 This is very interesting!!!
WD-40 Before you read to the end, do you know what the main ingredient of WD-40 is? I had a neighbour who had bought a new van. I got up very early one Sunday morning and saw that some vandal had spray painted red all around the sides of this white van. I went over and told him the bad news. He was very upset and was trying to work out what to do, probably nothing until Monday morning, since nothing was open. Another neighbour came out and told him to get some WD-40 and clean it off. It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm the paint that was on the van. I'm impressed! WD-40 - how did someone work out it would do that? 'Water Displacement No.40' The product began from a search for rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'water displacement' compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-'40'. The Convair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower screen.
