I think I solved the riddle about the little fellow in the front row
(second person from the left).. I think the little turkey with the
scowl is none other than me. I always take a a great picture.
Smiles aren't my strong suit. Whatever. I think the boy at the end
of the second row was Bruce Tschantz. That man at the top of the
picture might have been the preacher man. Can't remember the name.
I guess I wasn't too keen on putting on a creepy gown and standing
there for a stupid picture. At least I haven't changed much since
then, but I think I did grow taller. Someday I will send some photos
whenever my granddaugter has time to do the photo routine. I doubt I
will put on a smiley face. Just say "SCOWL" and I will respond.

I posted a picture of the Dalton Presbyterian Choir. Don't know the

identify.

Re: New photo

Hi Linda F. here.
?
Regarding Keith's picture.? That sure is an oldie!? Keith is the 3rd one from left in Front Row.? Keith, when you say mid 1940's - do you mean like about 1945?? Wouldn't have you been only about 4?? The lady in back row on the left looks like one of the teachers we had in school - about 4th grade, but can't think of her name.? The man in back row - why do I want to say George Eastman - who the heck was he?? Did Joanne Delong go to the Presby church.? What about Thelma Williams - back row?? How about an Elwood Martin?
?
Pat, go into the "Photos" - the group where all are listed and you can change it to the "large" size - it's a little better to see.
?
I could recognize the Methodist choir a lot better as that is where I went as a child till my teen years,?and then?I started going to church in Canton.? Nobody had to drag me; I loved going there!
?
That's my try at it.
?
P.S.? Loved the Street Carnivals, but liked the Carnival best when it was down at the City park (where they played softball).? They had more rides down there.

I posted a picture of the Dalton Presbyterian Choir. Don't know the

Sorry to hear about your dad.? Most of us are at the age where we will be experiencing these loses.? My mother died of colon cancer in 2001 and my dad died of alzheimer related problems in 2002.? My wifes parents passed in the 80s.? I know you have many wonderful memories and all the years he did survive with his family.? God picks our time and all we can do is be ready.

Hello Everyone:?

I was in Dalton from Wednesday (6/28) to Tuesday because my father passed away on May 27th.? He was 91 and living in OrrVilla Assisted Living.? His health was so-so but his arthritis was very painful and he had slowed down a lot.? He often said he was ready to go.? He fell on Monday and sustained a cracked pelvic bone so he was taken to the hospital where he passed away 24 hours later.? He had sold his farm in April 2006 and lived at Shady Lawn Assisted Living across from Gwen's mother until he moved to OrrVilla in October.? This feels like the end of a very important part of my life.

While in Ohio, I was able to envision many of the buildings and events that were recently mentioned on the Dalton59 pages.? I think there is a parking area where Brownies used to be.? The Dalton Dair-ette is still thriving.? There are several empty stores which would provide unique business opportunities to anyone who would like to make an investment in Dalton.? The cemetary was nicely groomed and there were flags on all the veteran's graves.? The two traffic lights are still working and Santameyer's Gulf Station is now Kick's Auto Repair.? You can read about?Dalton's great girl's softball team at .?

I enjoy reading the postings on the dalton59 web site.?

Hi Corrine,
I,?too, want to say I am sorry to hear of your Dad's passing.??? Being a neighbor, I knew your parents and grandparents well.????I loved them all.?????I remember of how much your Dad liked to go fishing; ?he and your Mom would pack up and go fishing.??? Fishing was his passion.???????When I think of Ray Kurzen, I think of his humor.....he just had this dry sense of humor. ???One night over at Shady Lawn, some man from your Dad's church and my first cousin (Hope Kaufman & her husband, Dave) and my?Mom and I all congregated in your Dad's room and he had us in stitches?recalling some of the stories of his life.??? We were laughing so much, we were crying.??? In fact, one of the staff there peeked in and was wondering what all the commotion was about.??? He was a just a great man!!!!??? And so was your mother.
?
I was in Colorado when my sister, Linda, called and left me know about your Dad's death.???I was saddened.??? I had just seen him many times a year ago when I was in Dalton for those?five months.??? I will miss him.
?
Love,
Gwen?

I found these caramels (maybe) on candyfavorites.com. They are
called Goetze's vanilla caramel creams (aka bulls eyes). Are these
the caramels you are talking about? I think they resemble what we
used to get when we were kids. I haven't gone to Cracker Barrel yet
to check out what they have there. That place kind of scares me--too
many old people (probably my age or even younger).

Another good reason why they no longer use staples to seal potato
chip bags anymore. Today people would sue the potato chip
manufacturer.

I'm trying to remember the places we visited for class field trips.

All I can recall are:

Quaker Oats factory in Akron where we saw puffed wheat and puffed
rice
shot from guns. Very interesting. I think that factory is now
closed.

Lay's potato chips factory in Wooster where we saw how potato chips
are
made. And we got a sample. Very tasty. Do they still make potato
chips in Wooster? Wasn't there also a "Wooster" brand chip? Maybe
that's what it was called at the time and not Lay's?

Schoenbrunn Village close to New Philadelphia. Lots of quaint old
buildings and stuff like that.

There must have been other places we visited. Does anyone remember
where else we went as a group of kids?

Dear Corrine:
?
My condolences to you and your family. I know that many of us can relate to what you?are going thru.? My mom passed away last Feb and my brother Dan this March so that is the end of my family and now I am the only one left of the immediate family.? There is no one to ask any questions to regarding family and as we become the oldest we realize that we may be?are at the top of the list to be next.? We often sit around wondering?how our children will deal with us as we become older.?Very scary!?
??I think this is another reason why it is so important to me to reconnect with?my classmates as we are?so much a part of each others lives even though we have all gone different directions but can relate to one another as we have a common bond growing up in the same town and have very deep roots from our childhood.?Reliving so many of these great memories has energized me and caused me to think back and to realize again how blessed we were to grow up in gentler kinder time in rural America.?
So my prayers are with you as you go thru the process of this loss of a parent.? Keep in touch and keep posting those pictures and memories.? You are an a great contributor.?
?Also thanks for giving us an update on the street?scene.? Things change, sad but true!? Would love to have some pictures of early Dalton streets.? I know I have some of my side of the street?but I am not sure of the other side.? Will dig them up and post when I am home in the fall.?? ?Love Patricia lee

Re: News from Dalton

Corrine,

I too am sorry to hear of your dad's death.

I guess we are all getting to that age where parents have already
left us or are likely to do so soon. Knowing this doesn't make it
any easier.

My wife just lost her mother (age 95) on May 25. It was exactly 19
years to the day and within 5 minutes of when Suzanne's father died!

Sue's mother was the last of our parents to pass on. We know what
you mean by saying it feels like the end of an era.

We have you in our thoughts and are looking forward to seeing you
next year.

Re: News from Dalton

Sorry to hear this news, Corinne. Actually I just arrived in Dalton this
morning and my mother already informed me about your father. Had a passing
hope you might still be around, but then realized that probably wasn't realistic.

Don't know whether you received my response to your note a couple weeks ago.
Was great hearing from you, and I hope you come through Zurich sometime soon!
I moved last year, bought a floor of a villa and now have an extra small
bedroom/office so visitors don't have to sleep on the sofa! New address is
Limmattalstrasse 379 CH-8049 Zurich, Switzerland.

My email address is changing to ekreider@.... I tried entering the
change in the yahoo group website but it doesn't seem to have taken effect....
must try again when I can get to a computer with time to work around a bit.
Dalton looks lush and green, I always enjoy visiting in June when it's much
more comfortable than December! (although Christmas with my mother is a long
tradition...)
Cheers,
Eunice
