looking at the pictures .....they were bitter sweet I must say. ?In some I see Carl and Ruth (who is his second wife who we got to know when she was single, she lived in the apartment below us when we were first married) and then to see Bonnie who looks so much like Elvera who was her mom (my mom and her were in bridge club together) ?Seeing them at the prom was ever so touching and him in his football uniform. ?Just made me realized how far we have all come from those days. ?Life is precious and each day is a gift. ?

Ron Hackett

Some of you may have heard by now that Ron Hackett died yesterday. He was married to my sister Bonnie and they lived in Littleton, CO. They both were class of '60.
We are flying to Denver tomorrow and probably return back here to Florida on Tuesday. Then we pack up and head toward home but decided to make a trip to Ohio on the way. Current plans have us there the 29th thru the 2nd. If any of you are there at that time, would love to visit.

We still be here in Boerne Tx.

Waiting for spring to finally arrive.

Northwest winds at 30-40 mph and temps in the 30's is not very
springlike to me.

Recollections of my childhood--

Kite flying with kites that would not fly. At least not for me.
Gary Steiner always had box kites that would terrorize East Dalton.

My kites were good at low level ground bouncing and if airlifted
would certainly end up in the trees. Nothing like kite remains
in the trees for months on end. Somehow that was ok though because
the kites were more decorative than bobbers in the trees when I practiced fishing in my back yard. Never caught any fish in those trees but the practice was useless at least.

Have a relatively mundane non-eventful useless fun day,

Johnnie

?

?

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no?booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

?

?

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

?

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

?

?

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

?

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight..? ?WHY?

?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

?

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..

?

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.

?

?

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps

and then ride them down?the hill,

only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve?the problem

?

?

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's,

no surround-sound or CD's,

no cell phones,

no personal computers,

no Internet and no chat rooms.

?

?

WE HAD FRIENDS?and we went outside and found them!

?

?

?

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.?
We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

?

?

?

We ate worms and mud pies

made from dirt, and

the worms did not live in us forever.

?

?

?

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

??

?

??

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

?

?

?Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.

Those who didn't had to learn

to deal with disappointment.

?

Imagine that!!?

?The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!?

?

These generations have produced some of the best

risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

?

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

?

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

?

?

If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!?

?

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives?for our own good.

?

?

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

?

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

The quote of the month is by

Jay Leno:

?

'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of?bird flu?and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the?Pledge of Allegiance?'?

?

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.?

For the rest of us...pass this on.?

Yes thanks for the incriminating photos. ?I know they were posted on our Yahoo Group webpage at one time but now there is some new proof that we were really there. ?We have had some discussion on whether we went to NY or Washington DC first. ?Anyone want to comment...??

Just want to send birthday wishes to the three triplets in our class that all have different last names. ?I had sent out an email earlier asking if anyone knew who these three were and the only comment was from one of the ones that shared the birthday. ?I would say that was not much feedback...is anyone out there??

another bit of information ...some of you knew that John Douglas wife Rose mother (oh where is the English teacher when I need her) ?was not well when we were at the reunion. ?She has recently passed away and John and Rose are in Ohio with the family. ?Our prayers and sympathy to the family.

OK I know you are all dying of suspense on the birthday triplets...They are ?Adeline Harley H and Richard Nussbaum. ? Happy Birthday to each of you, Feb 28. ?Also a late shout out (couldnt resist) of Happy Birthday goes to our ?Valentine baby ?Chuck Meier. ? And also another Feb birthday is Keith Goudy who is probably in Fl enjoying the sunshine after several challenges getting there....Feb 27.

?? ?We're getting older but we are getting better. ?Ain't it grand. ?Keep sharing about the class trip and perhaps we can get a complete picture one day.....pjlee

PS ?does anyone have any history on the Dalton Potteries? ? or memories?
