OK.? When you sign into Yahoo Group, at the top of the page is a "My Account".? Click on that.? It takes you to your information.? Click on the first "edit" button and it will bring up some fields.? One is General Preferences.? There you can set the time zone you want.? Weasel, you are same as me, GMT -6.

How do you get Yahoo to show the correct time zone on the message?

I sent an e-mail at 12:48pm CDT and it shows on the message that it was
sent at 5:48 pm (some future time in the twilight zone).

Does anyone else have the same problem? Or am I the only one living in
the twilight zone? Chances are I am the only one.

Dear John,
?
Yo Weasel.? Glad to see you are still around, so am I.? I remember the football players used to go to the back rooms and that was were we learned to play pool and cards, from the old timers.? Despite coaches warnings about doing that.? I am going to scratch my old mind and start thinking of interesting things.? Back later.

Remember Brownie's Lunch that had great cherry cokes, greasy burgers
& fries? What a place to go after school to eat junk food, play pool,
play euchre, or just simply go there and do nothing. What a youth
experience.

Or how about Levi Berg's where you could buy an ice cream cone (double
dip Sealtest raspberry swirl) for a nickel (or maybe it was a dime)?

I never went to the back room as a kid because that was where all the
bad stuff was going on (probably card games or tip boards, maybe even
near beer was being consumed).

Do any of you have any memorable experiences at these places or any
other long gone places in Dalton?

My most memorable experience at Brownie's was when I was just a tad
of a kid (somewhere between probably 7 to 27 years old), I hate to
admit, but I stole a 10 cent bag of potato chips. Feeling guilty,
the next day I went back to Brownie's, threw a dime on the counter
and slinked away for atonement. "Lord, please forgive me" I said to
myself as I left. Lesson learned. I have not stolen anything since.

I guess my parents raised me well.

Let me know of your memories of theses places or others. I'm sure
everyone has a tale to tell.

I'll try to think of some other places in the area to jog your memory.

As you can see in the details below, it shows as having been sent at 12:53 PM today so that would be correct.? So the email is picking up the right time.
Is the problem somwewhere in the time set on your computer?? Do you have the current time displayed on you screen and if so, is it correct?

I played the trumpet in the band and kept it for many years and then eventually sold it.? Before high school I was in the Kidron School and John F. Lehman and Myron Nussbaum and I played in a trumpet trio and went to contest one year.? After high school I never really played it again even though I had a major in Music Education.
?
I spent many hours in Brown's Lunch including pool playing in the back and card games in the very back room.? How about the many hours we would stand out front late in the evening and hang out and tell jokes.? Talk about a small world.? My dad has a manufactured home in North Fort Myers, FL where they went for 20 plus winters.? They helped Carl & Marcella Brown find a home in the the same park.? My dad can't drive that far anymore so we ended up buying it from him and we now "snowbird" from Texas to Florida.? Go figure that one out.? Anyway, Carl and Marcella are still snowbirding there each year.? It had been almost 50 years since I had seen them?but we see each other every?few days when we are there.? His dad ran the Brown's Lunch and when he died, Carl and Marcella took over although Carl had a day job over in Orrville so Marcella did a lot of it.? I believe Weasel participated in a few of those games.? We frequently went to his house out on the hill to play pool in his basement
?
I can remember when I was younger going to the corner drugstore to read the magazines and get a coke.? The Greyhound bus stopped right out in front.
?
I spent many hours working across the alley at Bach's service station.? That was a great experience.?
?
Who can forget the Dairy Queen!
?
Then there was G.G. Grimm's car dealership right there in the center of town across from my grandparent's Furniture Store.? I had them paint my '50 ford a turquoise color.?

I don't recall. I just remember the pink/black combo. I think we
picked that color in grade 8 or 9. I think that was the "in" thing
back then. But pink/black was over the hill in 59.

Maybe the bread store was The Little Loaf store. I don't have a clue.
That was too far to travel to from the East End of the greater Dalton
metro area. So how little were the little loafs? Maybe they were
petrified big loafs past their expiration date and they shrank as
they got staler. I like bread and I'm sorry to have not partaken in
the little loaves. That would have been a good name for a rock band:

My clarinet went to my brother, Mike, and he played the years he

there.

I remember Scott's Drug Store where we would order marshmallow
cokes and
then when they mixed them wrong, they made a mess all over the

I also remember the store on the corner of Main and Mill (don't'
remember
the name) where they would give us these tiny loaves of bread that
were
always so fresh.

I don't remember going in Levi's that must have been off limits for
us

I also remember Vic having me direct the high school band when I
was in
elementary school and they played "Ten Little Indians".

Chuck and I played some clarinet duets.

Didn't we change our colors from pink and black to green and silver

How to kill a rat with an oboe (aka high school band instrument disposal)

jhdouglas59

How many of you still have your old DHS band instruments? I can't find
my oboe, but I think I may have destroyed it when killing a rat with it.

What's your story (real or fake) as to what happened to your old band
instrument? Or do any of you have any memorable recollections of good
or bad band experiences?

My recall is when we played the Egmont Overture and I had the oboe solo
part. After all the preludes, crescendoes, or whatever I was about to
make my solo presentation and then I choked. I think it was dead
silence for a while until the rest of the band picked up the pieces and
continued playing. Thanks for your help. And the band played on.

Anyone else have a story? Let me know.

The weaselmeister.

OH, by the way, I was perfectly content with playing my old saxophone
until someone (probably Mom or Dad) coerced me into converting from
saxophone to oboe. What a fiasco. When's the last time you saw
someone playing an oboe in a rock band?

GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. LAUGHING AT YOURSELF IS THER

Patricia Dearolf Lee

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. --
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it works:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car
and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on
the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in
the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out
the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox,
when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills
first.

I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is
only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I
go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Diet Coke that
I
had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push
the Diet Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I
see that the Diet Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it
in the
refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Diet Coke, a vase of
flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

I set the Diet Coke down on the counter, and I discover my
reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm
going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container
with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the
kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be
looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the
kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it
belongs, but first
I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the
floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill..

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to
do

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed,
the bills aren't paid,
there is a warm can of Diet Coke sitting on the counter,
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really
baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm
really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to
get
some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!

GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. LAUGHING AT
YOURSELF IS THERAPEUTIC.

P.S. I just remembered.
I LEFT THE WATER RUNNING IN THE DRIVEWAY

From my memory (which may not always be intact anymore), here are
my
recollections of nicknames for several of our class members:

Weasel (me): On one of the back roads around Dalton (of which
there
are
many), I spotted some kind of varmint in front of the car. I don't
recall who was driving. Anyways, this beast darted in front of our
speeding car (Ford, Chevy or some Mopar car) and I thought it was
a
weasel. Everyone laughed and hence the name--Weasel.

Schminck (John Hare): I'm not sure about this name but I suspect
it
is
in tandem with me being called Weasel. I think he was then called
Mink
which somehow got twisted into Schminck. This is just a guess.

Cash (Jerry Amstutz): He always enjoyed playing cards and seemed
to
always win and then he got the name Cash. Another guess.

Hebe (Herb Eberly): This must have been a variation of his first
and
last name.

Friction (Keith Goudy): Can't figure this one out.

Shook Up (Don Johnson): Sometimes got shook up--hence the name.

Lammy(Lanny Royer): A derivative of Lanny.

Cat (Harold Saurer): Cat like quickness.

Lymmie (Lynn Weikert): A derivative of Lynn.

If anyone else had nicknames, I don't remember them. If the stuff
above
is wrong, who cares?

It makes good conversation. Any error corrections would be
appreciated.

Although I am an MSN user, I have now mastered the yahoo signup
routine
(I think). Why does this message show 7:34 pm when it is only
2:34 pm
CST? What time zone is yahoo on? Must be the twilight zone.
Another
computer mystery for me.

So what's the scoop for the big 50 next year? For those of us
outside
the Dalton metro area, I think some of us may have some
conflicts
with
the dates suggested (due to grandchildren high school
graduations
at
the same time as the reunion).

I went back to Dalton last week for a few days and saw only one
classmate (John Hare). I don't know if he is part of the yahoo
group
but he did give me his e-mail address. Let me know if you want
to
contact him by e-mail.

Since I live in Texas where we get either drought or floods, I
was
impressed by how green Ohio is in May. I have only mowed my
lawn
once
because of our drought, but the Ohio lawn freaks seem to mow
their
lawns every other day because of the rain and good soil. Our
soil
is
mostly rocks and caliche so real grass is nonexistent. I used
to
be
meticulous about our lawn when we lived in Ohio or the frozen
tundra
in
Wisconsin (where we lived for 9 long years).

That's all my humdrum news for the day.

Glad to be part of the group now. Keep me posted.

looked a lot like a cat, ready to pounce!

Nickname genealogy:

Researched today.

From my memory (which may not always be intact anymore), here are my
recollections of nicknames for several of our class members:

Weasel (me): On one of the back roads around Dalton (of which there
are
many), I spotted some kind of varmint in front of the car. I don't
recall who was driving. Anyways, this beast darted in front of our
speeding car (Ford, Chevy or some Mopar car) and I thought it was a
weasel. Everyone laughed and hence the name--Weasel.

Schminck (John Hare): I'm not sure about this name but I suspect it
is
in tandem with me being called Weasel. I think he was then called
Mink
which somehow got twisted into Schminck. This is just a guess.

Cash (Jerry Amstutz): He always enjoyed playing cards and seemed to
always win and then he got the name Cash. Another guess.

Hebe (Herb Eberly): This must have been a variation of his first and

Welcome to the group Weasel (and just where did that name come

I am
trying to remember some other nicknames... was there Slink and
Cash and
Friction? I am sure many others so if any one can add to and tell
how
the
names came about that would be fun and interesting. Thanks for
adding
your
opinion regarding the timing on the reunion, that is a good point!
Hope
that it will be read by the right people.
Check out the data base link at the left of the yahoo page click
on it
and
then click on group contacts to see all of the classmates email
and
etc that
I have up to date.
Oh and PS now that I have your attention: Does anyone know where
to
find
Norman Yoder. He is the only one I have no info on.

For those of us
outside
the Dalton metro area, I think some of us may have some conflicts
with
the dates suggested (due to grandchildren high school graduations
at
the same time as the reunion).

I went back to Dalton last week for a few days and saw only one
classmate (John Hare). I don't know if he is part of the yahoo
group
but he did give me his e-mail address. Let me know if you want to
contact him by e-mail.

Since I live in Texas where we get either drought or floods, I was
impressed by how green Ohio is in May. I have only mowed my lawn
once
because of our drought, but the Ohio lawn freaks seem to mow their
lawns every other day because of the rain and good soil. Our soil
is
mostly rocks and caliche so real grass is nonexistent. I used to
be
meticulous about our lawn when we lived in Ohio or the frozen
tundra
in
Wisconsin (where we lived for 9 long years).

That's all my humdrum news for the day.

Glad to be part of the group now. Keep me posted.

John (aka Weasel)

I thought that John Douglas gave Keith Goudy the nickname "Friction". You see how good my memory is.
I think it had to do with the perception at some point in time that he was causing agita among different people, and so he came to be called "Friction".

Keith - what's your take on it?

It is a tradition at DHS for the 50th class reunion members to attend the commencement on Sunday afternoon for the current graduating Senior class.??? That is why we are waiting for the exact date.?? We should know that date pretty soon.??
