Fate is fate

I turned on my sirius satellite radio yesterday, and much to my surprise
I happened to look at the title and artist name of the song which was being broadcast on Escape Channel 76 (which I have rarely listened to)
and to my astonishment there was Johnny Douglas performing a song called
"Somewhere In Time".

After several more songs on Channel 76 by other artists, I looked down
again and at that point Johhny Douglas had another song called "I Won't
Send Roses". Another stroke of fate.

Somehow I must have forgotten that I ever was an orchestra leader.

Unless, of couse, there is another Johnny Douglas somewhere (probably
has croaked by now--lucky stiff).

Astounding coincidence or fate that I heard Johnny Douglas?

Fate is fate,

Johnny

I think I do have an answer to question 7. Does anyone else
know the answer? I think Kevin Orr (comedian at the Red Dog Saloon
in Cincinnati many years ago in the 1970's had the question and the
answer to the question). I saw him perform at the Red Dog on a business trip I made to Miamisburg, Ohio while I worked for Bergstrom
Paper Company. I don't know if Kevin Orr is alive or perhaps
is now buried with (or maybe without) his shoes on.

The party's over but the road goes on forever, or is it the road goes
on forever but the party never ends? Of course, unless it is post
50th Dalton 59 reunion, then the party is over for sure.

Does anyone else have any unanswerd questions?

Does anyone recall Chuch Willis who sang "What Am I Living For?"
and then died shortly thereafter. A bittersweet event indeed.

Now we are in the ides of March for whatever that is worth.

All I know about March is that daylight savings time finally starts
and daylight wasting time ends on March 13, St. Patty's Day is
the time to drink green beer on March 17, and spring (hooray) starts
on March 20. And the highlight of March occurs on March 21 to
celebrate Benito Juarez's birthday. Sounds like a good time to
scarf down frozen margaritas. Anybody else out there celebrate
Benito's birthday?

Just out of curiosity, who in the Dalton59 group has a birthday
in March? Or for that matter, who in the class of 59 irrespective
of whether or not the person is in or not in the Dalton59 group
has a March birthday? A bigger question would be "How does anyone
know who has a March birthday"? Maybe I will send a virtual e-mail
birthday card to those with March birthdays. E-mail birthday
cards are a lot cheaper than snail mail birthday cards. It's the thought that counts--not the cost.

Then we can continue with the birthday list for future months
if anyone knows of birthday dates. How in the world would anyone
have a clue about who has a birthday in what month?

Glad to hear somebody actually reads my messages.

Don't you have anything better to do with your time?

I think maybe I will give each of you an assignment to write
an answer to essay questions. Your response must be less than
5,000 words. The first one to respond gets criticized--just
like in school.

Here's the first essay assignment:

Why are the school colors orange and black and class pink and black
colors important to you? What would life have been like if the
colors red and white as school colors and brown and gold class colors
been selected instead? Why is a bulldog important as the school
mascot? Why is the annual called Luanna? Why was Dalton built on
a hill? Why was the all-girl marching band disbanded?

Chick and Rudy

Gwen:

I remember getting flat-top haircuts at Chick's barber shop also.

I don't recall whether Chick or Rudy was the best at cutting
flat-tops.

Now that I have reverted to having flat-tops again, I find it
difficult to have anyone actually able to cut flat-top haircuts
in today's world. I have found 1 hair place in Boerne which
has a hair person who can cut flat-tops. Yippee!

And believe it or not, the hair cut person is a she (Linda).
Linda works for Great Clips (with the senior special rates).

Who would have thunk back in 1959 that a she person would
cut my hair in 2011? There are no barber shops any more.
Well, actually there are a couple of barber shops in Boerne,
but they are not too swift.

I guess the old time smokey barber shops (with no women allowed
to set foot into) are a distant memory.

John

March 21st is also the birthday of J.S. Bach and, if I remember correctly, our classmate Jeff Eckard.? I recall that it was asserted that the first day of Spring was always on March 21st because that¡¯s when Jeff¡¯s birthday was.

Happy Spring to all!

Waiting for your timely response to the essay questions,

Professor J Henry Scholarmeister
