Hi everyone,
PJ asked me for an update on my progress so I figured I'd get everyone the update. Just a reminder, I am recovering from double bypass surgery followed by a stapf infection. Treating the OR staph infection turned out to be more of a challenge than the bypass surgery. I am glad to share the fact that I am doing very well.
I came home on June 25. I will finish my 6 weeks of IV administered antibiotics this Friday, July 23. Then I will most likely be switched to an oral antibiotic for an additional 4-6 weeks. It seems like the doctors are very serious about making sure the MSSA infection is completely gone.
The cardiac surgeon released me from his care last Wednesday, so that was a good step. I still have regular checks from my Primary Care Physician, my cardiac doctor, a home health care nurse and an Infectious Disease doctor. It's pretty sad when you look forward to going to the doctor so you have a good excuse to get out of the house!
I have been walking every day. I am up to a mile and a half now, and the shortness of breath that caused me to look into my ailment is no longer present. I am eating well and trying hard not to re-gain the 20 pounds I lost!
I thank everyone for your best wishes and for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.
Paul
PS. Remember, old age is not for sissies!

Re: Tragedy in South Africa
This got my attention,it made me realize how many times I'm asked for ID, I never thought about it before.? Now that I have, I can't for the life of me see why you'd get upset.????????????
?I'm a legal American citizen and I?must show my ID?when:? ?????1.? Pulled over by the police.
??? 2.? Making purchases on my department store credit?card.??
???3.? When I show up for a doctor's appointment.? ???4.? When filling out a credit card or loan application.?
???5.? When applying for or?renewing a driver's license or?passport. ??? 6.? When applying for any kind of insurance.? ??? 7.? When filling out college applications.? ???8.? When donating blood.
???9.? When obtaining certain prescription drugs. ? 10.? When making some debit purchases, especially
??????? if I'm out of state. ? 11.? When collecting a boarding pass for airline or train travel.?
I'm sure there are more instances, but the point is?that we citizens of the USA ?are required to prove who?we are nearly every day! Why should people in this country?illegally, be exempt!!!!!
For that matter, perhaps the liberals can answer the question: Why shouldn't we guard our borders as closely as every other country in the world does??

Frances' oldest daughter, LeAnne married P Graham Dunn, did volunteer work in
NY City with abandoned teen girls.? For something to do, he bought wood
working tools, got the girls to make simple things, sold some teaching time
management and finacial management.? When their term was up, he decided to
continue using his wood working sills, built the factory (Mostly laser
burning), employed many of the Amish young people, sells his works to Christian
book stores all over the world and doing very well, thank you.? He has
large windows on the second floor so we can observe the workers in all aspects
of the business.? Of course, the gift store is up there as well.? I
believe it has outgrown its walls and had built a larger building over on Route
30, closer to Dalton.? Many of the picture frames have family pictures of
Paul and Frances or their kids (sepia colored of course which is the big rage
down).? I've seen his items in stores here on the eastside of Indy.?
Have even passed on a catalogue or two that came to us via visitor sign in
sheet.? But I do realize that the stores sell only what their manager
decides.
Take
care.? Did you get a heart shaped pillow to hold against your chest when
you cough or laugh?? It was a "life" safer for Dave and was on
our couch for years following the quadruple by-pass.

"So you've joined the zipper club but you whimped out with only 4.? I

all that you need.? You are another example of patients picking up
germs/bugs/virus/ etc while in the hospital.? I agree - so glad is was not

cranial biopsy, he tested positive for one of those MSA's but if he promised to
do the mouth swab/mouth wash and something else, can't remember what, he was
allowed to go home.
The
biopsy came back as anaplastic astrocytoma meaning a malignant glioma, or brain
tumor.? That's what caused his seizure back in October.? He's on
seizure medication and for the tumor he has 5 more radiation treatments and
several more chemo pills to take before getting a month off to heal.? So
at the end of this month, he will go with me to Dalton OH and stay with my

moving t Dekalb Co. in IN.? Her side of the family is Irish and German and
I think it must have been a Rheinhart that married an Amstutz.? Since
there are 3 Amstuitz families living in the Kidron/Sonneberg area with none of
them related to each other, I'm pretty certain her Amstutz relatives will not
be related to mine.? You have no doubt been back to the Paul Gerber farm

Hi all,
I'm writing this from my hospital room at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). I
came in on May 24 for a heart cath and they wheeled me into the operating room
early the next morning for a double by-pass operation.
I was able to go home on Wednesday June 2. Then Saturday June 5 I had somewhat
of a setback and got my first ambulance ride in over 69 years, back here to
CMC. Turns out I picked up an infection that got into my bloodstream.
The infection is MSSA, not to be confused with MRSA, but also a stubborn virus.
It looks like I may be going home again soon, but will continue the antibiotic,
Cefazolin for at least 4 weeks. This antibiotic can only be given via an IV
line.
This morning they put in a PIC (sp?) line and Suzanne will be able to refresh
her paramedic skills when we get home.
Right now I feeling pretty good and I hope that trend continues!
Paul

YO:
I forgot to add in my previous message about Corvairs, that I know I had a car on Ralphie's hit list.
I had a 1976 Ford Pinto with the exploding gas tank and equipped with Firestone 500 defective tires. Somehow I survived the holocaust that was inevitable. The Pinto survived me and my 2 teenage sons who drove the Pinto. There was a memorable accident with the Pinto where my oldest son backed the Pinto (red colored) into a tree. The tree was stronger than the Pinto and we got a replacement hatchback window assembly from the junkyard.
The good news is that a replacement hatchback window assembly was readily available from the junkyard. The bad news is that the color of the hatchback assembly was blue. This made the Pinto famous in Boerne for the Boerne police to track.
Another vehicle that should have been on the Nader hit list was my 1976 Ford Granada (probably the worst vehicle ever made by Ford).
Have not seen any Granadas on the road in the last 10 years or so.
Thanks for the Corvair update.
Whatever happened to Ralphie boy anyways?

Paul and Frances' oldest daughter, LeAnne married P Graham Dunn, did volunteer work in NY City with abandoned teen girls.? For something to do, he bought wood working tools, got the girls to make simple things, sold some teaching time management and finacial management.? When their term was up, he decided to continue using his wood working sills, built the factory (Mostly laser burning), employed many of the Amish young people, sells his works to Christian book stores all over the world and doing very well, thank you.? He has large windows on the second floor so we can observe the workers in all aspects of the business.? Of course, the gift store is up there as well.? I believe it has outgrown its walls and had built a larger building over on Route 30, closer to
Dalton.? Many of the picture frames have family pictures of Paul and Frances or their kids (sepia colored of course which is the big rage down).? I've seen his items in stores here on the eastside of Indy.? Have even passed on a catalogue or two that came to us via visitor sign in sheet.? But I do realize that the stores sell only what their manager decides.
?
Take care.? Did you get a heart shaped pillow to hold against your chest when you cough or laugh?? It was a "life" safer for Dave and was on our couch for years following the quadruple by-pass.
?
Cheers.

Yes I am a member ?of the zipper club.? I have real stitches, not staples.

Haven’t been to the Paul Gerber farm since it was changed to a woodworking operation, in fact this is the first I heard of it.

To W3CGQ from XYL of WB8MBE.? Did the docs use staples or super glue for the incision?? One of Dave's buddies visited him in the Hear Hospital with "So you've joined the zipper club but you whimped out with only 4.? I had 7 by passes."? interestingly enough, 8 years later, he had a pace maker and defib put in this week.? hope the double by-pass surgery will be all that you need.? You are another example of patients picking up germs/bugs/virus/ etc while in the hospital.? I agree - so glad is was not the deadly MRSA.? As Dave was leaving the hopsital in April after the cranial biopsy, he tested positive for one of those MSA's but if he promised to do the mouth swab/mouth wash and something else, can't remember what, he was allowed to go home.
The biopsy came back as anaplastic astrocytoma meaning a malignant glioma, or brain tumor.? That's what caused his seizure back in October.? He's on seizure medication and for the tumor he has 5 more radiation treatments and several more chemo pills to take before getting a month off to heal.? So at the end of this month, he will go with me to Dalton OH and stay with my brother Ivan Amstutz on the home farm and sleep, again, in the historic?Pioneer Home.? Will help a friend do some geaneology (sp?) to find her Amstutz relatives who lived in Holmes Co, and Wayne Co. before moving t Dekalb Co. in IN.? Her side of the family is Irish and German and I think it must have been a Rheinhart that married an Amstutz.? Since there are 3 Amstuitz families living in the Kidron/Sonneberg area with none of them related to each other, I'm pretty certain her Amstutz relatives will not be related to mine.?
You have no doubt been back to the Paul Gerber farm where you and your parents lived when you went to H.S.?and toured the pgrahamdunn woodworking phenominon.? We visit almost every time we go back to Kidron.? More touristy things pop up each time we go back, or so it seems.
Heal!? Be a good patient and follow your private nurse's instructions and you will heal.

Hi all, I'm writing this from my hospital room at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC). I came in on May 24 for a heart cath and they wheeled me into the operating room early the next morning for a double by-pass operation. I was able to go home on Wednesday June 2. Then Saturday June 5 I had somewhat of a setback and got my first ambulance ride in over 69 years, back here to CMC. Turns out I picked up an infection that got into my bloodstream. The infection is MSSA, not to be confused with MRSA, but also a stubborn virus. It looks like I may be going home again soon, but will continue the antibiotic, Cefazolin for at least 4 weeks. This antibiotic can only be given via an IV line. This morning they put in a PIC (sp?) line and Suzanne will be able to refresh her paramedic skills when we get home. Right now I feeling pretty good and I hope that trend continues! Paul

Paul:
Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.
As an aside, I too, played nurse after Rose had an infection
after her first brain surgery. Same routine that your wife
will follow probably.
Although I was skeptical of how my nursing skills would be,
I came through with flying colors. Tell Suzanne she will
do just fine.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and I will add you to our prayer
list.
