What I remember about NYC is the Automat where you could buy a sandwich from a machine. Prior to that my previous exposure to
automation was the 2 cents milk bottles (probably the honor system back then) in the Dalton High School basement. The only decision was to choose between plain milk or chocolate milk. Naturally, since I
am such a wholesome guy, I chose the plain milk. The real stuff--not
the skim milk I drink today.

Actually, we went to DC first, then took the train to NYC, arriving at Penn Station. We stayed at the New Yorker hotel, which is just a short walk from Penn Station; it's still there and, perhaps, somewhat upgraded from when we stayed there.

I remember that a group of us went to a restaurant for dinner and received rather poor service from the harried waitress who had our table, causing us to leave dimes and pennies for tips. She was vocally unhappy about that.

After the NYC visit, we took the train home and it was a long ride. I don't recall stopping in Pittsburgh, but we must have traversed the Horseshoe Bend in Pennsylvania. I vaguely remember the subway ride.

I remember that a group of us went to a restaurant for dinner and received rather poor service from the harried waitress who had our table, causing us to leave dimes and pennies for tips. She was vocally unhappy about that.

Re: NYC and beyond HELP

I was wondering, too, if the current Senior class goes on any trips.????? I'll see if I can find out from my relatives back in Ohio.
?
How did Prudy join up with the group after being left on a subway platform??? ? Does anybody know?????????? That was so scary to me.???? ?I still remember the shock that was on your face when the doors closed on the subway.......I'll NEVER forget that!!!!!?? ? Dumb kids that we were......
?
I remember, too, the Smithsonian Institute and all the yucky things in jars.??? For his part on his Senior trip, Glenn remembers being so scared on a ride called "the parachute" at Coney Island.???? He and Ed Lintern rode on that ride.??? They took you way high and then dropped you.??? Did anybody from our class go on that ride?
?
Thanks, Linda, for coming up with the name of Johnny Carson's show.??? What was it about??? ?Do you know??? ?

One of my trips to NYC, I remember?climbing up in the Statue of Liberty - think pretty far up - maybe up in the hand ????Oh yea, I do remember going to the "Who Do You Trust" show with Johnnie Carson and even remember I sat on the right side of?the theater.
?
My?Grandma took me and my sister, Cheryl, to NYC when I was in the 4th grade and we had the most wonderful time.? At that time we saw two tv shows...The Big Payoff with Bess Myerson (where she wore the mink coat) and another favorite of mine?Strike It Rich.
?
Well, that's it for my memory...Now I have to concentrate on some song lyrics that I NEED to remember for tomorrow and Sat.

Hi everyone,
Glenn and I are in NYC for a week.???? Do you remember what all our class took in during our Senior trip here?????? Does anybody recall going up into the Statue of Liberty?????????? If so, did we go to the crown????? I remember of going to Chinatown where I was fascinated by a guy with a yo yo (I had never seen that many tricks). ?? I remember of going to the United Nations building.???? Did we go?to see the Rockettes???? What else does anybody remember?????????? ? I remember of going to the Johnny Carson show......does anybody else remember that????????
Let me know please.
?
The World Trade Center site is sobering, but they are?doing a real nice job on the Memorial.???? The police and fire departments really got hit hard on that day.??? There was a little church just across?the street from?the WTC that gave the rescue workers food and water and they provided cots that the rescue workers slept on.?? We toured the church yesterday and on that day (9/11) and on the many weeks thereafter they provided solace to the rescuers.....????? Not only physical needs, but emotional needs as well.......if the rescuers needed a good cry at what they saw at the site, someone was willing to listen......and the rescuers got back to the task at hand.?? Good people..........really GOOD people!!!!!!
Gwen?

?

How's ?This For Nostalgia??
All ?the girls had ugly gym uniforms?

It ?took five minutes for the TV to warm up?

Nearly ?everyone's Mom was at home when the kids got home from ?school?

Nobody ?owned a purebred dog?

When ?a quarter was a decent allowance?

You'd ?reach into a muddy gutter for a penny?

Your ?Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces?

All ?your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their ?hair done every day and wore high heels?

You ?got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without ?asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, ?you got trading stamps to boot?

Laundry ?detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the ?box?

It ?was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a ?real restaurant with your parents?

They ?threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed. And they did ?it!

When ?a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out, lay ?rubber or watch submarine races, and people went ?steady?

No ?one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in ?the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never ?locked?

Lying ?on your back in the grass with your friends?
and saying things ?like, 'That cloud looks like a... '?
?

Playing ?baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the ?game?

Stuff ?from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because ?no one had yet tried to poison a perfect ?stranger?

And ?with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could ?slip back in time and savor the slower pace, and share it with the ?children of today.

When ?being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the ?fate that awaited the student at home?

Teach ?these kids some respect.
Basically we were in fear for our ?lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, ?etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But ?we survived because their love was greater than the threat. ?

. .as well as summers filled with bike rides, baseball ?games, Hula Hoops, bowling and visits to the pool, and eating ?Kool-Aid powder with sugar.?
Didn't that feel good, just to go ?back and say, 'Yeah, I remember that'?

I ?am sharing this with you today because it ended with a Double Dog ?Dare to pass it on. To remember what a Double Dog Dare is, read ?on. And remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old ?enough to know better and too young to care. ?

Send ?this on to someone who can still
??remember ?Nancy Drew,?the ?Hardy Boys, ?Laurel ?and Hardy,?Howdy ?Doody,??The ?Peanut?Gallery,?the Lone Ranger,?The Shadow Knows,?Nellie Bell,?Roy and ?Dale,??Trigger ?and Buttermilk.??

Newsreels ?before the movie.

P.F. ?Fliers.

Peashooters.

Howdy ?Dowdy.

Hi-Fi's ?& 45 RPM records.

78 ?RPM records!

Green ?Stamps
.

Mimeograph ?paper.

The Fort Apache Play Set.
?

Do ?You Remember a Time When..

Decisions ?were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe'??

Mistakes were ?corrected by simply exclaiming, 'Do Over!'?

'Race issue' ?meant arguing about who ran the fastest?

Catching ?The Fireflies Could Happily Occupy An Entire ?Evening?

It ?wasn't odd to have two or three 'Best ?Friends'?

Having ?a Weapon in School meant being caught with a ?Slingshot?

Saturday ?morning cartoons weren't 30-minute commercials for action ?figures?

'Oly-oly-oxen-free' ?made perfect sense?

Spinning around, getting dizzy, and ?falling down was cause for giggles??

The Worst ?Embarrassment was being picked last for a team?

War was a ?card game?
