Actually, we went to DC first, then took the train to NYC, arriving at Penn Station. We stayed at the New Yorker hotel, which is just a short walk from Penn Station; it's still there and, perhaps, somewhat upgraded from when we stayed there.
I remember that a group of us went to a restaurant for dinner and received rather poor service from the harried waitress who had our table, causing us to leave dimes and pennies for tips. She was vocally unhappy about that.
After the NYC visit, we took the train home and it was a long ride. I don't recall stopping in Pittsburgh, but we must have traversed the Horseshoe Bend in Pennsylvania. I vaguely remember the subway ride.
