Lanny:
Too bad the USA is on a path towards becoming the USSA.
I thought that Australia was a leftward leaning progressive socialist country. I guess it has now seen the light and is trying to become a nation like the USA was "back in the day".
I can't visualize anyone from either the Demican or Republicrat parties in the USA being as bold as Australia's leader.
Too many wimps and wimpettes in DC to overcome.
The only good news is that there are only 1381 days left of the Obama regime. Of course this assumes that he won't take executive privilege and decide to reign forever.
If he does bail out after 8 years, Hillary is on the horizon.
I still remember the better times "back in the day".
Have a nice day,
The Realistmeister

SKIRTS AND SUPPER
?
?
FENDER?
SKIRTS AND SUPPER ? I? know
some of you will not understand this
message, ?but? I
bet you know someone who
might. ??????????????????????
I? came
across this yesterday.
'FENDER?
SKIRTS' ?
A?
term I haven't heard in a long time, and
thinking? about 'fender? skirts' started
me thinking ??
about?
other words that quietly disappear
from ?our?
language with hardly a notice like 'curb?
feelers' ?
?And?
'steering knobs.' (AKA) ?'suicide?
knob,' 'neckers
knobs.' ?
??? ?Since?
I'd been thinking of cars, ?my?
mind naturally went? that direction first.
Any kids? will probably have to find some
older person ?over?
50 to explain some of these terms to? you.
Remember 'Continental?
kits?' ?They?
were rear bumper? extenders and spare tire
covers ?that?
were supposed? to make any
car ?as?
cool as a Lincoln Continental.?
?? ??
When?
did we quit calling them 'emergency?
brakes? ??
At?
some point 'parking brake' became the proper
term. ?
But? I
miss the hint of drama that went with?
'emergency brake.'
?I'm?
sad, too, that almost all the old folks are
gone ?who?
would call the accelerator the 'foot
feed.' ?Many?
today do not even know what a clutch
is ? or?
that the dimmer?
switch used to be on? the
floor. ?For?
that matter, the?
starter was down?
there?too. ???
?
? Didn't?
you ever wait at the street for your
daddy ?to
come? home, so you could ride
the ?'running?
board' up? to
the house? ?
Here's?
a phrase I heard all the time in my
youth ?but?
never anymore - 'store-bought.'?
?Of?
course, just? about everything is
store-bought these days.
???
But?
once it was bragging material to have
a ?store-bought?
dress or a store-bought bag of
candy. ?
???
?'Coast?
to coast' is a phrase that once held all
sorts ? of?
excitement and now means almost
nothing. ?Now? we
take the term 'worldwide' for
granted. ?This?
floors me. ?
?
? On? a
smaller scale, 'wall-to-wall'
was? once ?a
magical? term in our homes. In? the
'50s, ??
everyone?
covered his or her hardwood floors
with, ? wow,?
wall-to-wall carpeting! ?
? Today,?
everyone replaces? their wall-to-wall
carpeting ?with?
hardwood floors.? Go figure.
When?
was the last time you heard the quaint
phrase ??'in? a family
way?' It's hard to imagine that?
the word 'pregnant' ?was?
once considered a little? too
graphic, ?a?
little too clinical for use in polite?
company, ?so? we
had all that talk about stork? visits
and ?'being?
in a family way' or simply? 'expecting.'
Apparently 'brassiere'
is a word no? longer in
usage. ? I?
said it the other day and my daughter
cracked? up. ?I?
guess it's just 'bra' now.?
'Unmentionables'? probably wouldn't be
understood at? all.
I always?
loved going to the 'picture?
show,' ?but? I
considered 'movie' an
affectation. ?
?? ???
?Most?
of these words go back to the
'50s, ?but?
here's a pure? '60s word I came
across ?the?
other day 'rat?
fink.' Ooh, what a? nasty
put-down! ?
Here's?
a word I miss - 'percolator.' ?That?
was just a fun? word to
say. ?And?
what was it replaced with 'Coffee
maker.' ?How?
dull... Mr. Coffee, I blame you for
this. ?
?? ???
?
? I? miss
those made-up marketing words that
were ? meant?
to sound so modern and now sound so
retro. ?Words?
like 'Dyna?
Flow' and 'Electrolux'? and
'Frigidaire'.? Introducing the
1963 Admiral TV, now with 'Spectra
Vision!' ?
?? ???
?
? Food?
for thought. ?Was?
there a telethon that wiped out lumbago? ?Nobody?
complains of that anymore. ?
??? Maybe?
that's what Castor?
oil cured, ?because?
I never hear mothers threatening
kids ?with?
Castor Oil anymore. ?
?
?
Some?
words aren't gone, but are
definitely ?on? the
endangered? list. ?The?
one that grieves me most is 'supper.' ?Now?
everybody says 'dinner.' Save? a great word.
Invite?
someone to supper. Discuss fender
skirts. ?
?? ???
?
? Someone?
forwarded this to me. ?I?
thought some of us of? a 'certain
age' ?would?
remember most of these. ?
?? ??
? ?
?Just?
for fun, pass it along to others of? 'a
certain age.' ? ?
?
?
? IF? YOU
AREN'T OF A CERTAIN AGE, YOU? MUST KNOW
SOMEONE WHO IS.

66 years later!
What happened to the radiation that lasts thousands of years?
HIROSHIMA 1945
We all know that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed in August 1945 after the explosion of atomic bombs. However, we know little about the progress made by the people of that land during the past 65 years.
HIROSHIMA - 65 YEARS LATER
DETROIT- 65 YEARS AFTER HIROSHIMA
What has caused more long term destruction - the A-bomb, or Government welfare programs created to buy the votes of those who want someone to take care of them?
Japan does not have a welfare system.
Work for it or do without. |
And I don’t think there has ever been a better explanation of
the importance of incentive than this example |
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and
all applicable to this:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating
the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another
person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the
government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have
to work because the other half is going to take care of them,
and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to
work because somebody else is going to get what they work for,
that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Winter Solstice means 1 day closer to Spring
The only good thing about winter means it is 1 day closer to spring and also 1 day closer to summer.
Perhaps "White Christmas" is the cruelest song of all Christmas songs.
I just remember black slush and shoveling packed snow and subsequent ice after the snow plow came through and embedded our driveway with a frozen glob of fleecy white stuff.
My Christmas wish follows:
For all those who are looking forward to a white Christmas be rewarded with such.
For all those who prefer a non-white warm Christmas be rewarded with such.
And may Brenda Lee still sing the Christmas songs forever. Is she still a 38 year old midget that I remember hearing about?
And may Andy Williams still sing Christmas songs forever (even though he has passed on). I listened to a vinyl album he recorded back in 1967 today. Thank God for vinyls and the simple days of yesterday.
And may Ray Conniff still sing the Christmas songs forever.
And may Johnny Mathis still sing Christmas songs until he croaks (if he hasn't croaked already).
And may Burl Ives have a Holly Jolly Christmas in his afterlife.
And may egg nog have as many calories and trans fats as yesterday.
And may Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians still be alive and well.
And may the Johnny Mann Singers still continue to sing.
And may Percy Faith and his orchestra still play their violins forever.
And may Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer reign as the best novelty Christmas song of all time.
And may Alvin and the Chipmunks be beaten to death with an oboe.
And may Charlie Brown have a neato Christmas some year.
And make me have a happy ending to this e-mail.
No such luck.
Merry Christmas.

The World Gone Mad (aka Spouse A/Spouse B)
Just when I thought I had seen almost anything in this goofy upside down world, I saw a news blip on Fox News Channel that a new marriage certificate in Washington State will delete the terms Husband and Wife and replace that with Spouse A and Spouse B.
So the dilemma is who is Spouse A and who is Spouse B in this strange politically correct neutered world we live in.
Is Spouse A the husband or is he the wife?
Is Spouse B the wife or is she the husband?
Is there a he or she in the equation?
Next in the pc gender neutered world will be the birth certificate showing the child of Spouse A and Spouse B as Child Person with no known sex as the child. The child will have no name and will be identified by a number (unless the number is judged to be discriminatory).
Enough of these gender neutral nutcases.
There are bigger problems in this day and time than gender bender freaks.
Have a pleasant ordinary mundane weekend.
