Obama Versus Obama
Many voters will be comparing Mitt Romney with Barack Obama between now and election day. But what might be even more revealing would be comparing Obama with Obama. There is a big contrast between Obama based on his rhetoric ("Obama 1") and Obama based on his record ("Obama 2").
For example, during the 2008 election campaign, Obama 1 spoke of "opening up and creating more transparency in government," so that government spending plans would be posted on the Internet for days before they passed into legislation. After he was elected president, Obama said, "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government."
This Obama 1 sounds like a very good fellow. No wonder so many people voted for him.
But then there is Obama 2. He passed a mammoth ObamaCare bill so fast that even members of Congress didn't have time to read it, much less the general public. It was by no means posted on the Internet for days before the vote, as promised.
The Constitution of the United States requires transparency as well. When people are nominated by a President to become Cabinet members, the Constitution requires that they be confirmed by the Senate before they can take office, so that facts about them can become known before they are given the powers of their offices.
Although President Obama complied with this requirement when he appointed Cabinet members, he also made other appointments to powerful positions created by Executive Orders -- people aptly called "czars" for the vast, unchecked powers they wielded, in some cases greater than the powers exercised by Cabinet members.
These "czars" never had to be confirmed by the Senate, and so had no public vetting before acquiring their powers. We had unknown and unaccountable rulers placed over us.
Another aspect of transparency was the Constitution's requirement that Congress pass a budget every year. The Democratically controlled Senate during the Obama administration has not passed a budget for three consecutive years.
Passing a budget makes the administration tell the public what it will pay for, what it will have to cut to reduce the deficit -- and how big the deficit will be if they don't cut anything. By not even passing a budget, Obama 2 and his party are in effect saying to the public, "It is none of your business." Transparency?
In his oath of office, Barack Obama swore to see that the laws are faithfully executed, as all Presidents do. But that was Obama 1. Once in the White House, Obama 2 proceeded to explicitly waive the enforcement of laws he didn't agree with.
The immigration laws are a classic example. Failing to get Congress to pass some version of amnesty, Obama 2 simply issued an Executive Order exempting certain classes of illegal immigrants from the immigration laws on the books.
Too many people have gotten sucked into a discussion of whether it is a good or a bad thing for people brought into the country as children to be exempted. But the whole reason for Constitutional government is to have all three branches of government agree on what the laws of the land shall be.
Obama 2 has decided instead that if Congress doesn't do what he wants, he will do it by himself through Executive Orders.
If any President can unilaterally change the law, we are not likely to have the same freedom under rule by presidential fiat as under Constitutional government. This is especially dangerous in a President's second term, when he need no longer have to consider what the voters want. With a couple more Supreme Court appointments he can permanently change the very nature of American government.
One of the most dangerous examples of a lack of transparency was inadvertently revealed last March when Obama 2, unaware that a microphone was on, told Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that, after he is reelected, and never has to face the voters again, he will have the "flexibility" to make a deal with Russia on missile defense systems.
In other words, Obama will be able to make a deal with a country that has been America 's most implacable and most formidable adversary for more than half a century -- a deal he couldn't make if the voters knew about it before the election. Think about that chilling prospect, and what it reveals about the real Obama.

WOW!! WOW!! AND WOW AGAIN!
95 year old hero! Letter To Obama at Whitehouse Sent from 95 year Old Pearl Harbor Survivor !! Fantastic!!
This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.
Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
I enlisted in the U. S . Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor , allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.
So here goes.
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that
wish.
I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like: " We're no longer a Christian nation" " America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world," America is mean- spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.) I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her
ideals."
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.
I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.
Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue
. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.
One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But
if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle...
Sincerely, Harold B. Estes Snopes confirms as true:
When a 95 year old hero of the "the Greatest Generation" stands up and speaks out like this, I think we owe it to him to send his words to as many as we can. Please pass it on.

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS ...
'Someone asked the other day, 'What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?'
'We didn't have fast food when I was growing up,' I informed him.
'All the food was slow.'
'C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?'
'It was a place called 'at home,'' I explained. !
'Mom cooked every day and when Dad got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it.'
By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table.
But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it :
Some parents NEVER owned their own house, never wore Levis, never set foot on a golf course, never traveled out of the country or had a credit card.
In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears & Roebuck.
Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died.
My parents never drove me to soccer practice.. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer... I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow)
We didn't have a television in our house until I was 16.
It was, of course, black and white, and the station went off the air at midnight, after playing the national anthem and a poem about God; it came back on the air at about 6 a..m. and there was usually a locally produced news and farm show on, featuring local people.
I was 21 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called 'pizza pie.'
When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that, too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.
I never had a telephone in my room.
The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.
Pizzas were not delivered to our home But milk was.
All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers -- It cost 7 cents a paper, and they got to keep 2 cents. They had to get up at 6AM every morning.
On Saturday, they had to collect the 42 cents from their customers. Their favorite customers were the ones who gave them 50 cents and told them to keep the change. Their least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day.
Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. There were no movie ratings because all movies were responsibly produced for everyone to enjoy viewing, without profanity or violence or most anything offensive.
If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.
Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?
MEMORIES from a friend :
My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it.. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to 'sprinkle' clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.
How many do you remember?
Head lights dimmer switches on the floor. Ignition switches on the dashboard. Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall. Real ice boxes. Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards. Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner. Using hand signals for cars without turn signals.
Older Than Dirt Quiz :
Count all the ones that you remember not the ones you were told about.
Ratings at the bottom.
1. Blackjack chewing gum 2.Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water
3. Candy cigarettes 4. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles 5. Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke boxes 6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers 7. Party lines on the telephone 8 Newsreels before the movie 9. P.F. Flyers 10. Butch wax 11.. TV test patterns that came on at night after the last show and were there until TV shows started again in the morning. (there were only 3 channels... [if you were fortunate]) 12. Peashooters 13. Howdy Doody 14. 45 RPM records 15. S& H greenstamps 16. Hi-fi's 17. Metal ice trays with lever 18. Mimeograph paper 19. Blue flashbulb 20. Packards 21. Roller skate keys 22. Cork popguns 23. Drive-ins 24. Studebakers 25. Wash tub wringers
If you remembered 0-5 = You're still young If you remembered 6-10 = You are getting older If you remembered 11-15 = Don't tell your age If you remembered 16-25 = You're older than dirt!
I might be older than dirt but those memories are some of the best parts of my life.
Don't forget to pass this along!! Especially to all your really OLD friends......

What a startling fact I found out today that I live in Mayberry 2012.
Apparently selected the top 10 small cities in the USA.
Boerne Tx was rated number 4. I guess our local Chamber of Commerce
must have written an essay to promote Boerne.
Strange that the top 10 are compared to Mayberry. Andy Griffith would be proud. Maybe we should call Boerne hicksville or pokeberry. We don't have Floyd's Barber Shop; it's hard to find a barber shop at all.
Now we have Great Clip franchises and other franchised hair styling places.
Restaurants are overpriced and the food and service are mediocre at best. School taxes are out of sight and government services are
almost non-existent. Water resources are very limited and those persons living in the county outside the city limits are treated like criminals if they use their own well water.
At least the air quality is very good and our well water tastes
great (at least the amount I am allowed to drink).
Maybe this is Mayberry after all.

Anyone interested in a class gathering sometime between Aug 28 to September 5? We will be in Ohio staying at the Rodeway Inn in Wooster.
Excluded days are August 31 and September 1 due to a scheduling conflict with Rose's 50th Orrville class gathering.
Paul and Suzanne Sturpe have the same scheduling conflict since they are also part of the Orrville shindig.
Also excluded is August 30 since we may go to see the Cleveland Indians lose a game at Cleveland Municipal Stadium for their 12:05 pm afternoon game that day.
Other excluded days are August 28 the day we arrive via Southwest Bags Fly Free Airline and September 5 when we leave via Southwest again.
So I guess that would make the gathering hootenanny occur on the dates August 29 or September 2, 3, or 4.
Any ideas of where to gather? Maybe the Subway in Dalton? Or perhaps The Grand Ranch (old El Rancho Grande) in Wooster? Or maybe an
all-time favorite place Brady's Pink Cottage in Massillon (if it still exists). Or maybe Clay's Park. Or how about the Canton Zoo to see if the toothless lion still lives. I would suggest Hank's Tavern in East Greenville but I think that the place burned down a couple of decades ago.
Anyone interested in the project can arrange all the details. I don't want to get involved.
Let me know how I can help not arrange the details.
Good luck in your dedicated planning abilities.
All those interested in the gathering should let me know so I can assign the details to anyone who volunteers to help.
All those not interested in the gathering can ignore this e-mail just like all the other mundane e-mails I send to the group.

John,
i've been to Kidron 3 times since July 1 so August is out for me too.? Just buried my oldest brother, Ivan C. Amsutz, father of Sen. Ronald D Amstutz on July 16.? Appears that Class of '59 still returns to home base but on their own family terms.? Let's schedule something for the 55th class gathering.? Suzanne and I are interested in getting together with as many Dalton classmates as possible while we are in town.
Unfortunately, the only date/time that we can consider is Friday, August 31 for lunch or brunch. Yes there is an activity scheduled on August 31 for the Orrville group, but not until 5 pm., so a lunch or brunch should work out.
Does this date/time fit with anyone else's schedule? Does anyone have a suggestion of a place that would be suitable to meet? Is anyone other than John, me and our spouses interested?

Re: 53rd Class Gathering for DHS Class of 1959
I’m sorry but you’ll have to count me out.? I was just there for my father’s funeral and will be back there on August 1st.? We have a lot of work to do cleaning out his things and getting the house ready to sell. ? Barb Moser Pailloz

Re: 53rd Class Gathering for DHS Class of 1959
Suzanne and I are interested in getting together with as many Dalton classmates as possible while we are in town.

Or maybe an all-time favorite place Brady's Pink Cottage in Massillon (if it still exists).
See you'ns someday.

53rd Class Gathering for DHS Class of 1959
Anyone interested in a class gathering sometime between Aug 28 to September 5? We will be in Ohio staying at the Rodeway Inn in Wooster.
Excluded days are August 31 and September 1 due to a scheduling conflict with Rose's 50th Orrville class gathering.

After several feeble attempts to recall the Rule of 7, I will now try to explain to the best of my recollection the dark secrets of grilling in a simplistic manner.
I tried several days ago to write the Rule of 7 parameters, but somehow before I could send the message I inexplicably hit the Escape key and the whole message was lost.
Anyways, here is the Rule of 7 which originated in an article I saw in the Pedernales Electric Coop monthly magazine several years ago.
This method works with practically with any meat, fish or veggie cooked on a Weber grill. I, being the purist afficianado of charcoal briquettes for grilling, will explain it for grilling on a charcoal grill although I suppose it would also work on a gas grill.
I will use steak as an example:
Pour a small amount of EVOO on the steak and crush in kosher salt (or coarse grind sea salt) and extra coarse black pepper on both sides of the steak. NY strip steak works well with the Rule of 7.
After the grill is hot enough to fry your hand, put the steak on the grill and cook for 4 minutes. Then turn the steak 1/4 turn and cook for 3 more minutes (hence the rule of 7). Then flip the steak and cook 4 minutes on the second side and then turn the steak 1/4 turn and cook for 3 more minutes.
The steak (which was approximately 1 17/32 thick should turn out to be medium which is my preferred level of doneness.
Then take the steak off the grill and put on a platter and put about 1 1/16 ounce of butter on top and cover with a disposable cake pan bottom side up of the cake pan. Let the steak rest for about 2.2546 minutes to allow the butter to melt into the steak.
Perfecto mundo. And I don't even like butter, but it does add to the flavor of the steak.
This method also works on chicken breasts and pork chops, and burgers.
Just use the Rule of 7 in multiple sequences.
Here is an example for a bone-in skinless chicken breast:
I use a canary colored legal pad to keep track of the Rule of &.
Start 6:00 pm Turn 6:04 pm Flip 6:07 pm Turn 6:11 pm Flip 6:14 pm Turn 6:18 pm Flip 6:21 pm Turn 6:25 pm Flip 6:28 pm Turn 6:32 pm Flip 6:35 pm Turn 6:39 pm End 6:42 pm
Take el perfecto chicken off the grill at end of cooking cycle and cover with aluminum foil and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
The Rule of 7 is simplistic but is idiot proof.
Have a day.
