SilverFlame (Raina/Mada) #2181 Shouldn't Ashley get 3 more 1st-level spells? If he wants to cast 'Cure Wounds four times, that is decided at the time of casting, not during the preparation process. According to his class level + wisdom modifier, he should be able to prepare 6 spells of either 1st and/or 2nd level. Easy to get this confused with 3rd edition, I know. It took me awhile to figure this out too. Math is not my strong point.

(4) 1st level slots for 2nd level. but he can use his (2) 2nd level slots for 1st level. Wis Mod has nothing to do with spell slots. However, Wis mod + Character level = How many different? spells? he can choose for 1st and 2nd levels.?
SilverFlame (Raina/Mada) #2189 What I meant to say for this first part was that if Ashley wants to choose 2 second-level spells (which he did), he would have 4 spells left to choose/prepare/memorize for either 1st OR 2nd. Since his player mentioned Cure Wounds as a 1st-level spell, he would get either 3 more for that level, 3 more for second level or three more for both first and second level. That is how I should have said it. The second part of what I said is no different than what you said. I wasn't talking about spell slots. I was talking about PREPARED spells. Those aren't the same thing in 5e. But since his WIS mod is a +3 and his class level is a 3, he inadvertently gets the same number of prepared spells (6) as he does spell slots for both spell levels 1 & 2 (4 + 2 = 6). That will no doubt change as he advances in level.
