Re: DaleOfShadows Clarifications

I feel like people leaving instead of trying to work the kinks out kind of goes against what DnD is all about. At least for me, a large part of the game is about making a commitment to the group and growing together to learn each other's personalities and behaviors and becoming a team. Being a team to play the game and make memories like the one Tabby just referenced in her email. I truly think that this is a platform that can support any play style and cater to any player and provide what the player is looking for. I honestly don't know why the two of them left but a commitment to me means sticking it out and not just bailing because you can easily do it. I feel as though people these days forget what commitment really means and that makes me sad in a way.

Who's ever around for the next journey down a long road will hear North's flute to the tune of something that sounds like "Cloud of Unknowing" by Gorillaz.

DM/ OOC- re: clarification

Great comments gang. In response, I¡¯d like to say that Tabby sounds the most like me. As a player, I like the exploration part the best. I want to seek out things and see what¡¯s around that corner. I too played Morrowind for years, completing the worst once and then going back to just explore as a new character without any regard for the plot.

So in my games, I try to incorporate what the players want. I prefer a character driven campaign where the players tell me their goals for their characters and I just guide them to their destiny through rumors, NPCs, and minor quests. If you want to slay a dragon, I¡¯ll guide you to a dragon. If you want to rescue a princess, I¡¯ll kidnap a princess. If you want to become a King/Queen, I¡¯ll show you the path to building your empire. If you want to find treasure I¡¯ll give you a map. Tell me what you want and I¡¯ll find a way for you to get it.

This game will have combat but that¡¯s not the only way to level up. I award XPs based on your posts. You can go through an entire scene/encounter/fight without drawing a sword and still level up. Rogues pick locks, climb walls, and disable traps. That¡¯s XP. Priests heal and bless and purify food and drink. That¡¯s XP. Wizards solve riddles and comprehend languages and befriend animals. That¡¯s XP. Warriors smash through doors and raise porticuli gates and hold ropes for Rogues to climb. That¡¯s XP.?

There will be combat but there¡¯s so much more to 5th edition than just swinging swords and throwing fireballs.

I think I can keep everyone happy if it¡¯s part combat, part role play, part exploration and 100% teamwork! To be honest it¡¯ll probably all overlap since you can have roleplay during combat and exploration. Is everyone happy with that? Is there anything I should add/change?

Please continue to discuss any concerns you have!!!

Sadly, both Luna and Silver have left the group. That leaves;
Tabby the female Tabaxi monk
Ashley the male Human cleric
North the male Gnome wizard?
Sweet William the male Half-Orc barbarian
Anrah the female Lythari Elf (class?)

And Bre¡¯tah, the female Orc ranger NPC

As I understand it, the current plot is that the group is traveling to Myth Drannor with a brief stop for Tabby to visit Leafcutter¡¯s auntie. There is a Manticore attacking the Blue Moss Village. Is there anything else right now? Is there anything else you want?

Keep talking. Tell me more ?

Thanks!
/DM

Re: DaleOfShadows Clarifications

If I can just post here to the group, my expectations are in line with yours. I feel as though all the house rules are acceptable and aligned with how I would like things to be in this game.?

I'm always open to?suggestions on becoming better and playing the game better. It is why I am part of this group - to learn the game better and get this experience. I won't take anything personally and will only use it as constructive criticism. I also enjoy the creative writing aspect of the?game.?

However, I do find it hard to gauge DM/Player response to my actions. I guess that is what the OOC chat is for but sometimes I'm not sure how my responses were received on the other end. Communicating certain personal characteristics and mannerisms can be difficult to do through email.

I guess I would just like everyone to know that I'm here to play the game to the best of my?ability and have fun doing it. I believe we can all help each other learn how do that better.

P.s. I enjoy moments in this game that are funny and meaningful to the characters, and the ones that are intense to the point where I just feel out of control ... Like the box moment... Literally had no idea what to do there.

P.s.s. I also want to thank Infinitum for providing us this platform. Many many thanks and highly appreciated.?
Thanks

  2. You¡¯re part of a team. No Player vs Player combat, don¡¯t steal from teammates, and share wealth.
  3. Behavior determines alignment, not the other way around. Don¡¯t be a jerk using the excuse ¡°that¡¯s what my (chaotic evil) character would do¡±.
  4. We all have triggers and certain scenarios that are unacceptable to us. I try to avoid torture/gore, rape/sexual abuse, slavery, child abuse and anything else illegal in the real world.?That being said, the game does take place in a medieval time period and combat violence is a major part of the game.?If a subject comes up that triggers you in any way, shape, or form to feel uncomfortable let me know immediately!?This is supposed to be fun for all of us.

And 5. The DM is a Player, just like each of you. Not the boss. Not a babysitter. Not god. The DM¡¯s job is to create an interesting world for the characters to interact. We¡¯re all adults and all equals to here.?

6. You control your character and your character alone. You do not get to speak or act for other player¡¯s characters or NPCs

7. The other thing I would like to add is that this is a D&D Campaign utilizing the 5th edition rules. It is not an exercise in creative writing, though you?are allowed?to treat it as such. You can be as detailed as you like in your posts and I will read every word, but you are not required to write pages of text if you don¡¯t want to. I prefer it if you write more than a sentence or two. I prefer it if you give your character thoughts, emotions, and descriptions of their actions, but that¡¯s totally up to you.

I¡¯m sure more will come up as we converse and play. Please feel free to disagree, make suggestions, offer options, and express your concerns.

The game will continue alongside this conversation.??

Thanks!

Re: Day 4: The Blue Moss Village

At the first wolf growl, Sweet William, who never sleeps indoors if he can help it and wears no armor, rolls smoothly to his feet, axe and shield?in hand, and runs to the humans.

Letting the orcs tend to the wounded, he hefts a javelin and scans the area with his night vision. Hearing the howl from above, he orients on it and lets fly.

As he switches to his axe, the sweet, fierce battle joy courses through him, the blood singing in his veins. He is suddenly wholly, completely, wonderfully alive!

Everything seems to slow down as he puts himself out in the open, banging his axe against his shield and daring the monster to come down?and face him - drawing its attention from the wounded.

He feels the white-hot soul fire surging within him - savage, hungry and desperate for escape -?but it is not yet time. The firm grip of his iron will holds its?cage door shut. Behind it, he feels?the inferno grow.
Soon, he promises it.
Soon!

Some hours later, after the village has settled in for slumber, in the dark of the middle night and the ground thick with fog, the community is awakened by a frantic baying from the kennels. The wolves are uneasy and creating a ruckus.

Shouts from the village border are then heard, and the waking orcs are suddenly scrambling from their straw mattresses and gathering their javelins.?

By the time anyone gets to the source of the commotion, they find an Orc sentry being nearly dragged in to camp by a bloodied human under each arm. The Orc is badly injured and the humans aren¡¯t in much better condition. One of the humans-?wearing a tricorner hat and long sideburns- is calling, ¡°Help!¡± Not for himself but for the wounded Orc.

Lowering the Orc to the ground, the human hurriedly introduces himself as Lord Ephraim Brandywine and his manservant Enry Stonefruit. ¡°I have the ranch a league and a half north. Something has been culling my sheep. Something big. So tonight we waited with crossbows, eight skilled men in total. We heard a ballyhoo from the forest and found a monstrous winged cat entwined in battle with a pair of your orcs,¡± he explains. ¡°At least, I assumed yours. This?is?the?closest Orc village and the battle did progress in this direction.¡±

He wipes his brow, then continues, saying, ¡°Two of my men were slain, though they did draw blood from the beast. It flew off carrying your other warrior, but this one may still be saved.¡± He looks around anxiously. ¡°Do you have a Healer?¡± he snaps.

Suddenly, there is a snarl and howl from the darkness high above, as something large moves through the boughs overhead, and Raina is no where to be found!

And what do you do?
