The Amnian?considers 狈辞谤迟丑’蝉?counteroffer, and 贵濒测苍苍’蝉?request for a musical instrument. Opening a large basket he retrieves a buisine trumpet and a couple flutes but sets those aside. Then he pulls up a pear-shaped stringed item resembling a cross between a rebec and a dulcimer. He slips a glass ring over the third finger of his left hand and another on his right thumb. With a beaming smile he begins to play, tapping strings one at a time with his thumb and pressing and wiggling the left fingers into them as they vibrate.?

The wavering glissando gives the instrument a haunting ethereal sound which is very evocative and emotionally moving. Then the Merchant changes tact and begins a percussive rhythm with the strings. The twangy initial strikes are followed by a bright and warm resonance changing the mood into an upbeat and lively melody.?

“A very versatile piece, no?” he states, handing the instrument to Flynn. The Bard?immediately recognizes the instrument as being of Elder Bardic College?craftsmanship (!), but which of the seven? Fochlucan?or perhaps Mac-Fuirmidh. Could there be a Silverymoon Bard living in Maztica??

The more likely case is that Vichook?imported it from Amn and the seller probably didn’t know its true value. Even Vichook?doesn’t seem to know its actual worth. The device is certainly enchanted, but to what degree is impossible to tell just by looking. Nearly all Elder College instruments grant the ability to fly and become invisible. Each college also imbued specific spells into their instruments. Every Bard knows of them. But this one is most special. It is as if it was uniquely created for a musician in Maztica.

“I will offer it to you,” he says to Flynn. “In exchange for the box of coral, the jade ring, and five thousand gold.” Perhaps he does know its true value.

“Or,” he adds with a nod to Mahta. “I can offer it as dowry for your young bride?”

As if suddenly remembering the question, Vichook?raises a finger. “The Ragamuffin!” he suddenly exclaims. “That is the ship’s name. Shouldn’t have been so hard to remember,” he squints his eyes and taps his right temple with his index finger. “She’s a good ship and the only one in port at the moment. Leaving tomorrow with the tide if nothing delays her, or so they say. I don’t know her Captain but the first mate is a lovely woman by the name of Imoen. She handles all the export and manifest tasks,” he explains. “She’s likely staying aboard the ship, but she comes onto land every day to oversee the cargo.”

The?Pirate?doesn’t betray any outward signs of fear, but the?Half-Orc?knows better. A very subtle line of sweat begins to pool along the one eyebrow not covered by the patch. When?闯耻’产补谤颈濒?slowly exhales almost silently, the?Barbarian?knows he’s got him. “Twenty,” the?Pirate?breathes softly, almost defiantly, but he never moves and never breaks eye contact. His love of gold overrides his sense of self preservation.

When the perfume bottles begin to rattle, the Amnian merchant?Vichook?calls out, “闯耻’产补谤颈濒?you swamp rodent! Are you cheating my customers again!”

狈辞谤迟丑’蝉?description of the potion intrigues the merchant but he replies, “Sadly I do not deal in potions, but you should talk to Lee Kwon Dzoo over near The Keep.” He hands the potion back but gladly accepts the perfumes from the?Gnome. “Well, well, well,” he beams. “Now these I am familiar with.” He scrunches his nose and considers the Sorcerer momentarily. “I will give . . .”?he counts up the containers, “one hundred sixty gold for the lot,” he offers.

Meanwhile,?颁别谤颈苍补’蝉?inquiry gets the Pirate to break eye contact with?Sweet William. “Sixty gold, total. Two masterwork swords and the maul,” he states. “B.B.Best I can do.” Then, almost as if he hadn’t heard her at first, he adds, “Talk to Fletcher Jonas at th’ Keep. ‘E’s a retired preacher. Don’t hold that against him. Knows birds like no other.”
