Omitted from May 2:? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? May 2, 1959 Philadelphia's Market-Frankford line car 581 suffered a broken axle when it pulled into the 15th Street station eastbound, causing a 24-hour delay which would have been chaotic if it had been on a weekday. Buses were put into service from 8th Street to 30th Street but when the westbound trains were able to get to 13th Street, subway-surface cars did the emergency work. As many as 15 Woodland PCC cars provided express service from City Hall to 30th Street, stopping only at 15th Street. Regular PCC cars on routes 10-11-13-34-36 were jammed with displaced El riders. The 15 extra PCC's ran light from 30th Street to the portal at 40th Street and Woodland Avenue and were returned onto the subway between the regular cars.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
