December 10, 1957 During the second day of the New York subway strike, the New York Central Railroad ran a 12-car train from Mt. December 10, 1970 The last pre-Amtrak railroad strike took place when the Penn Central, Reading, Jersey Central, and Erie-Lackawanna were among the 30 railroads involved in the strike. The Long Island Railroad, which was unaffected, ran regularly but not to Penn Station; its trains terminated at Hunters Point or Woodside or were diverted to Brooklyn. The PATH tubes ran regularly but with no service from Journal Square in Jersey City to Newark.? Staten Island Rapid Transit didn't operate.
