Re: December 9 in RR History

December 9, 1956 Philadelphia trolley route 20 from Broad and Olney to the Naval Base via Old York Road and 12th and 13th Streets was re-equipped with 2500-series air-electric PCC cars as it remained two-man operated during normal hours. Cars 2515-87 were assigned to Luzerne Depot for routes 20 and 60 and cars 2031-80 were transferred to Woodland for the subway-surface car lines. The 50 ex-SLPS cars, which had been in storage, were returned to service on route 56. Route 6 got 2100-series all-electrics for its lost 2031s. The remodeled 8000s used on route 20 were retired to Ridge Depot as the December, 1956, scrapping program involved prewar Mack buses.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
