December 4, 1955 As a result of Chicago's route 36 Broadway-State changeover, the State Street buses began operation from 120th and Morgan to Grand Avenue and the Broadway PCC cars began operation from the Devon Car House to Polk Street and mingled with the State Street buses from Grand to Polk. Also, former trolley route 52 (Kedzie-California), converted to bus operation on May 30, 1954, was reconverted to trolleybus operation to release enough buses to convert the State Street route.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Good morning, all, and, as always, Mark, with great thanks.
One comment re not only the above but re almost all of Mark's wonderful postings:
Think about it: If the vile conspiracy (the road builders, tire & rubber manufacturers, oil and gas companies and auto bus and truck builders) had not been allowed to get away with the near-complete destruction of America's street, interurban and electric railway, we wouldn't now have to be spending literally BILLIONS to replace what never should have been destroyed.
And with that unsetlling thought and from a frigid (hell, it was in the 50s here last night--I had to put the heat on!--Big ( : > )) ) South Florida I am sending all good wishes to all of? you for a wonderful, happy and safe holiday season.
As ever,
Seth
