The LP-1 looks fine, but I'm considering doing an upgrade. I contacted Regnar and they will do a rebuild which includes new Burr-Brown op amps for $320. The pricing seems high for such a simple circuit.

Looking thru the internet, the DYI upgrades seem to center around recapping and gold RCS jacks.

Any advice or recommendations?

Previous owner had replaced the original tweeter and super tweeter with a KEF T27A unit.? Obviously, the crossover network was also removed and redone.

I was wondering if any member has used GR-Research to analyze their DQ-10s and recommend any upgrades.

If you installed the upgrades how did it improve the speakers?

For those that don¡¯t know GR-Research will listen and analyze a speaker (at a cost of course) and then recommend crossover/speaker component changes to improve the speaker. They also sell kits for some speaker models, mostly bookshelf/monitors I believe.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

I was informed by several people they dint return calls and items sent to them ie: crossovers could take months. While the work looks neat the caps are small size and aren¡¯t much better then the Mexico ones in there. I was advised not to buy their cap upgrades and to read through what other member have done in files. I found 3 diff articles using clarity cap which are higher priced and physically larger . It takes some work to figure out how to fit them in the space.

Yes after the 50 hrs of cap break in the caps all mellowed a bit across the range. That big 80uf one for woofers took a while to fully form...I have an extra set of original yellow cap caps ... I was thinking of just keeping in case when I sell my pair I can offer original to buyer?? BUT I HABE ENOUGH Clarity caps to redo another set of xo. HENCE PERHAPS. I should redo a second set of xo¡¯s and keep as spares or offer them for sale? Thoughts?

Re: LP-1 Board Layout

Samuel,

Good point.?

It appears the unit in question is has original stock components. I read through the post on Audio Karma that Bernard shared and grasped that upgrading the transformer and op amplifiers go hand in hand.?

Thanks,

Andy

Re: LP-1 Board Layout

Hi Andy,

Does it still have the oem op-amps? If not beware of employing types that draw higher current. The transformer has little headroom and tends to fail shortly afterwards.?

Yup. One purple for piezo . Not sure it makes sense to do anything with that circuit as I¡¯ve never detected any sound from them even running bink cd with freq clips of 16khz 18khz etc. I even replace them thinking they were bad! No change. I did recap me pithat circuit but alas no change. The clarity caps and mills resistors are pricy. I think about 225-250 but they did tame the bright grating sound in the mid and hi frequency range. It¡¯s worth it if you want to keep them for yrs to come
