Re: Greetings from a new member!

I use the clarity blue caps and change from 5.6 to 6.0 for the mid range and after about 40 hours of break and it was a big improvement where the mid highs weren’t quite as harsh I also changed to resistors and I’m sure you know in the files there are parts list And two different parts list and complete instructions for phase 12 and three of a restoration person. The only thing I’ve done is change crossover caps, and resistors. The other guy who was working on the LP one no longer is doing it, but he sent me a bunch of diagram and schematics of , what he used to do I’d have to dig them out. The problem was when you modify the LP one. The power supply isn’t strong enough to change the op amp without doing a lot of work the biggest defect the LP one is the RCA gets loose or comes loose and you can’t get a good connection , if somebody’s interested, I’ll try to dig out the schematics he sent me?

Having Regnar redo your crossovers would be a lateral move at best. You already have Solens (Regnar uses rebadged Solen caps) and non-inductive resistor upgrades in your present xovers.
If you really want to upgrade, I would recommend using Clarity, Sonicap, Mundorf or some other high end brand of cap. Of course, this may be cost prohibitive for your needs.?
BTW, Regnar is hard to correspond with and quite expensive for what you get.

Regarding the LP1 I believe Frank Van Alstine has performed upgrades to this unit. You may want to give him a call. Frank has been in the business for many years and manufactures some fine gear.?

Re: Greetings from a new member!

Thanks for the response although I vehemently disagree with the views on Carver amps. My experience and the real world testing indicates otherwise but I have no interest in debating this. I'm very happy with them.
I did exchange emails with Regnar today so I think they are working but in an increasingly diminished capacity which makes sense given the natural decline in people using Dahlquists.
Cheers.

Hi &?

Yes, I’m someone that had Joe (I believe his name is) at Regnar rebuild my DQ10’s about 20 years ago; he did an excellent job for a fair price. I’ve since tweaked my pair a few times. However, I’ve tried to contact him, in the past few years and have not been able to get through. I believe someone said he is ill and no longer doing the work; but, I don’t know this for certain. What I do know is that he hasn’t been responding.?

Good luck!?

John?

Hi all. While I'm brand new to this forum I've owned my DQ-10s for around 40+ years. My current set up is with the DQ-10s, a pair of DQ-1Ws and a DQ-LP1 powered by Carver amps at 500 watts a side. The combination of clarity, definition, sound stage and pulse altering bass is so fun. BTW, if you get a chance listen to Ratchets by Hedegaard as a speaker test. Breathtaking.
I've been using a variety of source mediums from vinyl to CDs and now through high end streaming which is surprisingly getting decent.
Ok, enough about that. I've decided to do another tune up of the system. About 15 years ago I made new crossovers and have also replaced the woofers and tweeters. I'm not thinking of doing another refresh by having the LP1 tuned up and as well getting fresh crossovers and sending them to Regnar for the work. They don't have any crossovers so I'd have to find a set of stock ones to send them. So a couple of questions...
Does anyone know of where I could get two original DQ-10 crossovers?
Has anyone had work done by Regnar and were you happy with the service/results/cost?
?
Thanks so much.

Regnar is a one man shop working limited hours . The work is excellent but you may wait 6 months with limited if any communication from him

Re: SVS Pinnacle - Anyone Familiar with these?

Hey Charlie - Glad you chimed in ! I'd love to hear these but at $2500/speaker they're out of my league.

Re: SVS Pinnacle - Anyone Familiar with these?

The curved baffle seeks to solve one issue. That is physical alignment of the drivers. Additionally the drivers must be electrically aligned via crossover design. This will ensure, if you sit in the right place, the designers intended signal will appear at your ears.
BUT there is one additional trick in the DQ10. The design does a first approximation of crosstalk cancellation. This is similar to the POLK SDA. You can google that to learn more.?
The DQ10’s manage to do this ( cancel the unwanted signal from the R speaker that appears in the L ear and vice versa )within ?a single speaker which the Polk tech can’t but there are trade offs.

SVS Pinnacle - Anyone Familiar with these?

I was reading about these and it seems time delay and baffle minimization (like the DQ10) play a key role in their design. Anyone heard of these?
?

Curved front baffle aligns all drivers on a vertical plane ensuring sound from each driver reaches your ears at the exact same instant.

Maximizes phase coherence for more convincing and immersive soundstage with pinpoint accuracy and imaging.

Midrange drivers and woofers positioned above and below the tweeter allow for seamless crossover blending to create an idealized “point-source” where sound emanates from single point in front of the speaker to optimize dispersion characteristics.

Re: DQM-9 Woofer Wanted

I have a pair of DQM-9Cs, they have Dahlquist specific MAGNAT drivers... (also have a pair of DQ-20s with an AR sub)

Re: Powered sub recommendation to match with DQ-10's

I have Svs, paradigm and velodyne. All have paired well when asked. It’s important to get the crossover adjusted, especially if your DQ-10 amp doesn’t have an adjustable crossover. One negative about velodyne, they don’t support old subs as far as replacement parts or service.

The DQM-9 woofers were made by Magnat of Germany.

Re: Powered sub recommendation to match with DQ-10's

Sealed enclosures are much more accurate for stereo listening and some ported offer a lower frequency but are really for theater or movie surround systems! Bower & Wilks has a small 10” sealed that’s reasonably priced.
