Re: Height Placement of DQ10s

I have done a fair amount of work on this. Assuming a normally balanced system and traditional equilateral triangle layout the optimum listening axis is perpendicular to the top baffle both vertically and horizontally- originating from a point half way between the mid dome and tweeter vertically and between the mid and mid dome horizontally. This can be achieved either by raising the speaker and/ or tilting it back so the radiation axis intersects the corresponding ear canal (L to L , R to R) when seated at the MLP. This also means the speakers must be toed in about 30 degrees.
Of course you can try to do this by eye. However the results are likely to be only marginally better.

This can be more reasonably approximated by using a non stretchy string and with the grill cover removed and using a helper to adjust the speaker. Start by holding on end of the string to your ear Tragus while seated normal at the MLP.
By moving the sting in arcs you can define all the points that correspond to equal distances for each driver (measured to the intersection of the voicemail and the cones/dome) IGNORE the super tweeter. This will roughly define equal flight times of each signal path which will result in optimum signal summation. For best results repeat the the other speaker and ear to optimize imaging. If you can bear this effort the resulting change is not subtle.?
