Hi Dave,
I love your idea of setting the DQ-10's on top of the DQ-1W's.
May I trouble you for a picture of your speakers please?

I've had great results by simply replacing the electrolytic capacitors in the 30+ year old LP-1 with nice new Sprague audio quality capacitors. It's easy to do if you can desolder and solder PC boards. I also put Burr-Brown opamps in. My system uses a pair of WOPL 700b amps. I blow a fuse now and then but I get couch shaking bass that's tight and clean. I sit my two DQ-1W's on their sides and use them to support my DQ-10's instead of the original speaker stands. It's the best sounding stereo system I've ever heard...I'm coming up on 68 years old and I've got my system done.
