LOTW --- DXKeeper discrepancy
3
Dave- I attempted a LOTW upload today, it aborted due to a duplicate. Investigation reveals 26 qsos that were uploaded to LOTW, but DXKeeper says Not uploaded. I have them identified. I confirmed that are in LOTW. What is best way to change DXKeeper to LOTW uploaded? Thanks Dan KC2STA

Launcher installed but does not appear in task bar or as an Icon
5
Hello group and Dave.....I have just attempted to install DX Labs on a new Windows 11 machine. I have followed all the directions in the relocating DX Applications from one PC to another. I installed the the Launcher in the destination PC as instructed in Item 4. The launcher appeared and I followed the instructions in item 5. When I terminated the Launcher and tried to copy the relocation folder to the destination PC, it would not show the Launcher workshop folder in the file. In the error log for the Launcher agent it show version 1.4.8 which is not the correct Launcher version. It also states that the Launcher is running but there is no Launcher in the task bar or shown as an Icon In the Launcher error text log it shows the Launcher agent failed unzip DLL. When I click on the LauncherAgent exec. it show that the Launcher is waiting to terminate. Question: should I delete everything in steps 4 and 5? Where can I find version 1.5 or later to accomplish this task? sigh......

DXView main window not visible any more
4
Hi, usually, my DXView (4.9.8) main window starts minimized, only the World Map window is on the screen. Today I tried to maximize the main window, clicked on it in the tastbar, but it didn't appear on the screen. I couldn't find a solution to let it appear. Uninstall and re-install didn't help as well, same behaviour as before. As I have no access to the DXView main window, I cannot pass an error log. I also have no access to the World Map window any more, because I terminated it during trouble-shooting and would need the main window to let it re-appear. I only was able to save DXViews application settings in the workspace, see below. Any idea what I can do? I'm just trying to familiarize myself with this function and understand the colors I'm seeing on my display (Elecraft K4D radio) as I work through all the various details of this amazing software. SpotCollector keeps going into yellow status
5
Over the past few weeks I've had issues with SpotCollector turning to yellow status for my sources. Sometimes it's all 4 sources that I'm using, other times it may be 2, or just a single source. I have been closing SpotCollector and reopening which has, temporarily, allowed me to reconnect to my sources. The yellow status seems to take place more on the weekends than during the week. Any idea what may be causing my SpotCollector to continue to go into yellow status? Tim N9PN

Windows 11 24 H2
8
Do you know if 24 H2 ever got straightened out? I remember a few months ago that it was one update you DID NOT want to install. I’m asking because a friend of mine has the home edition of Windows 11 and he is wondering if it is safe to install. 73, Bob KB4CL

The Soul of a New Machine by Tracy Kidder

Hi Dave - Just wanted to say TNX for mentioning The Soul of a New Machine by Tracy Kidder. I really enjoyed listening to it as an audio book - especially hearing Dave Bernstein mentioned twice, and ham radio once! 73, Bob WB2NVR

Graphics cards and Monitors for the shack/ DXLab
30
+ AA6YQ comments below An important distinction is that most of the features of these performance graphics cards are not going to be used at all with typical ham applications. Almost nothing in the ham application use 3D graphics. Instead, it's the 2D rendering performance that is key but it's not talked about at all in most card reviews. This is especially important because there is a complete and total mess in the higher end graphics market now which may confused and scare away hams from picking up a very fine graphics card that would meet their needs. Fortunately there is a web page that will help guide relative speeds of graphic cards, both old and newer ones. https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/GPU_mega_page.html Take note at the G2D column, and sort from highest to lowest. Then just go down that list and check whatever graphic card you have an interest in. Notice that the fastest card on the list is about 1000 in the 2D speed. The card I have in my main PC (GTX 1060) scores 770 - a card that must be at least 5 years old. It runs a trio of UHD monitors here in the shack. And you can get a similar one for under $100 on ebay. I'm not advocating this card, rather mentioning that whatever card you are thinking of buying can be judged on it's speed by consulting this list. And anything that's on the top half (500 or more) will most certainly be completely fine for ham applications. + It would be nice to have a "Selecting a Video Card" article in the DXLab Wiki to go with the "Selecting a Monitor" article developed by Dave W6DE: https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/MonitorsForOldEyes + The above guidance regarding 2-dimensional rendering performance would certainly be included in "Selecting a Video Card", but there are additional considerations: - resolution - refresh rate - power consumption - physical size - monitor connectivity (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) - motherboard compatibility + Would someone like to take a crack at this? 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Considering upgrading to Windows 11
23
Realizing that Microsoft is threatening stoping support for Windows 10 this year, I am thinking about biting the bullet and getting it over with and starting the learning and mental adaptation to it. I am looking for advice from those who have already gone down this path, and opinions as well. For our Gurus, your advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I admit some concerns about trying an "upgrade in place" as opposed to a fresh install. I am also considering a newer desktop, though according to Dell and Microsoft, the current machine should be adequate for my needs. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks and 73 de Dave, W5SV

Nested if/then?
4
Can I use nested if/then statements in button sequences in Commander? I'm trying to build a sequence where the first push sets AGC fast, the next push sets AGC mid, the next push sets AGC slow, and then it starts over going to fast. As an example -- <ifled red, 10> <filed yellow, 20> end AGC FAST FEFE94E0161201FD <led red> <tooltip Set AGC Fast> <end> etc... Or would the first statement be more properly be <ifled red or ifled yellow, 10> or maybe -- <ifled red or yellow, 10> Thanks, Earl / KD5XB DM84 SIX METERS! e e Sent with Proton Mail secure email.

Moving existing DXLabs installation to new PC
8
My present PC runs Windows 10 and I am aware that in October of this year support by Microsoft will cease. It is my intention to purchase a new Windows 11 machine. I ama aware that detailed instructions exist for DXLabs migration but in view of the need to move everything from W10 to W11 I was thinking of using propriety software such as Laplink and would be interested to learn how it might accommodate the DXLabs suite of programmes. DX Lab Installatio Issues
2
Good Morning, I tried to install DX Lab Software package on my computer. I was using N3FJP A/C Log for quite a few years. I decided I would give it a try. I must admit, that trying to install the package that gives you the frequency of your radio and stuff wasn't too difficult. But trying to install DXKeeper I found especially challenging and very confusing. I guess when it came to installing DX Lab that there would be one executable that would install everything for me. But I was wrong with that assumption. Presently I am on hold with installing anything further with DX Labs. I did not delete my N3FJP A/C Logger so I can still use that with WSJT-X and stuff. Perhaps I am the only one that thinks that the installation of the package could be a whole lot easier. I welcome any comments on suggestions. Mark Griffin, KB3Z

updated eQSL AG, LoTW, and RDA databases are available ...
2
... via the Databases tab of DXView's Configuration window. Terminate DXKeeper, WinWarbler, and SpotCollector before directing DXView to update these databases. Note: if DXKeeper, WinWarbler, and SpotCollector are running when you direct DXView to update these databases, it will display a small window that informs you of that fact, and directs you to terminate them before proceeding. If you do terminate those applications, then afterwards click the window's OK button and DXView will proceed to update the databases; if you don't want to terminate those applications, click the window's Cancel button, and DXView won't attempt to update the databases. In the next version of DXView, I've improved the message in the small window to be more clear about the functions of its OK and Cancel buttons. 73, Dave, AA6YQ
