Verified vs Confirmed on LoTW
36
Perhaps it's just my memory failing or me not reading enough posts here but I see that I have a lot of "C" in the DXView matrix for QSO that are fully verified on LoTW. The QSO in question show up as "Card QSL" in LoTW although that I am positive I have received LoTW confirmations for before applying for credits. Also, clicking "update from lotw" just reports the QSO as "accepted and confirmed" although they are fully verified in my DXCC challenge account. Could this be a side effect of the "emergency repair" done last spring, perhaps? Bj?rn SM7IUN

Monitors
I've learned much about monitors and graphics cards, and my ignorance remains vast, grin. I've decided to try my existing system with a 2K, QHD, 1440p wide monitor, and go up from there as needed. I'll report more later. I chose to take a too good Amazon deal for $200 on a Spring sale after seeing a very similar model at Best Buy for $280: acer Nitro 31.5" WQHD 2560 x 1440 1500R Curved Gaming Monitor | AMD FreeSync | Up to 180Hz Refresh | 1ms (VRB) | Tilt | 1 x Displayport 1.4 & 2 x HDMI 2.0 | EDA323QU S3bmiiphx https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D9HP796Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm passing this along should others have an interest. I may later decide that I need a second small monitor for maps. I have a 16" portable monitor that may work. YMMV. 73 Rich, NU6T-- Richard Hill

Column order in Spot Collector main window
5
Hi all, Recently started using Spot Collector, and am pleased report that it has already helped collect a few band-specific "new ones". Had a bit of a scare though, LOL - hadn't run it for a few days and yesterday evening and today it wouldn't display any new spots ... which was a bit surprising today given it's the CQ-WPX-SSB weekend. Read various threads on here and went through the suggested troubleshooting steps, but couldn't fix it. Read the error log, which said "program error 3049 in module SpotDatabaseModule.RecordSpot with state = 371: Cannot open database ''. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt" - found the database had grown to 2GB (!) and telling the app to prune the database and compact it (in the Spot Database tab's Size Control panel) ... now the database is only 6MB and spots are coming in. Just thought I'd share that in case someone runs into a similar issue. Anyway, my question is unrelated to that. I have trimmed the number of columns in the main window down to the few I need, but the order they appear in is fixed. Is there some way of re-ordering them so that, for example, I have the "DXCCPrefix" column first on the left, then the "Callsign" column, then the "Frequency", etc? 73, Mike VK2IG

Graphics cards and Monitors for the shack/ DXLab
17
+ AA6YQ comments below An important distinction is that most of the features of these performance graphics cards are not going to be used at all with typical ham applications. Almost nothing in the ham application use 3D graphics. Instead, it's the 2D rendering performance that is key but it's not talked about at all in most card reviews. This is especially important because there is a complete and total mess in the higher end graphics market now which may confused and scare away hams from picking up a very fine graphics card that would meet their needs. Fortunately there is a web page that will help guide relative speeds of graphic cards, both old and newer ones. https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/GPU_mega_page.html Take note at the G2D column, and sort from highest to lowest. Then just go down that list and check whatever graphic card you have an interest in. Notice that the fastest card on the list is about 1000 in the 2D speed. The card I have in my main PC (GTX 1060) scores 770 - a card that must be at least 5 years old. It runs a trio of UHD monitors here in the shack. And you can get a similar one for under $100 on ebay. I'm not advocating this card, rather mentioning that whatever card you are thinking of buying can be judged on it's speed by consulting this list. And anything that's on the top half (500 or more) will most certainly be completely fine for ham applications. + It would be nice to have a "Selecting a Video Card" article in the DXLab Wiki to go with the "Selecting a Monitor" article developed by Dave W6DE: https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/MonitorsForOldEyes + The above guidance regarding 2-dimensional rendering performance would certainly be included in "Selecting a Video Card", but there are additional considerations: - resolution - refresh rate - power consumption - physical size - monitor connectivity (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) - motherboard compatibility + Would someone like to take a crack at this? 73, Dave, AA6YQ

Graphics cards and Monitors for the shack/ DXLabs
6
I hope this is not too far off topic. I'm researching graphics cards and monitors to upgrade my shack to have more DXLabs and WSJT-X windows. My current monitor is a TV/Monitor that just does not offer enough room for much more than WSJT-X or DXKeeper. I do understand that I do not need all windows open at once to be able to use DXLabs. I gave my daughter my old monitor and it allowed so much more on the screen while maintaining good detail. My problem is I have not yet been able to define the use case so I can decide which combination of capabilities is best for ham radio. There is a good general reference on this subject in the DXLab references. Written by Dave, W6DE, it is: https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxlabwiki/MonitorsForOldEyes My computer has an Intel UHD 730 graphics card (max resolution is 1920 x 1080p but 1360 x 760p is recommended). It may well be too basic for a UHD or 4K monitor (3840 x 2160p), and I'm not yet convinced that a QHD 1440p monitor will meet my needs. I'm seeing UHD graphics cards designed for gaming or photo editing that seem to cost as much as a monitor. I'm doubting that hams need all that graphics power but I don't actually know what capability I need to have. My real goal is to be able to place most of the DXLabs windows up at once with enough sharpness to read all the details. I'm looking to understand what is needed in a new graphics card to match a 4K/UHD or a 1440p monitor without breaking the bank, grin. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Rich, NU6T -- Richard Hill

question regarding Commander
10
I am running an Icom 7800 which I had hooked up to DX Lab until about a year ago when we moved. I cannot remember for the life of me how I had it hooked up but am thinking a ran an RS-232 cable from the rig to the pc. I cannot get it to run now and am thinking perhaps I do not have the right cable. Can someone please advise this OM? Many thanks! Steve, WD8NPL

Street etc. in My QTH definitions
2
I'm preparing alternate My QTHs information. Where it calls for Street, City and Post Code, do I enter the data for that field location on my mailing information for correspondence? POTA locations may not have such information, but I could find something close if that is meaningful? Thanks. Rich, NU6T-- Richard Hill

Missing Distances/Grids after carefully following distance computation procedure.
9
Dave/all Using DXKeeper 17.9.9 I have imported an .adif log using the procedure here: https://www.dxlabsuite.com/dxkeeper/Help/Import.htm I have checked, in the upper left of the ImportQSOs tab "Query callbook and available databases for missing items". In the Callbook tab I also have selected, at the bottom, the radio button for Callbook under Preferred Location Source. I have selected, under QRZ.com, the radio button XML Data and provided my login to qrz.com and I have a valid xml data subscription. I also, under Secondary Callbook, have checked enabled and selected HamQTH and clicked "warn when primary callbook cannot be accessed". However, after import the import completes, MOST of the grid squares are in the log, BUT, there are some missing grid squares. I then use the grid squares to compute the distance with the procedure that is posted online in the help files (setting the antenna path to short with advanced filter). I have gone back to QRZ to see if QRZ.com has the grid square listed for the missing grid squares and qrz DOES have the grid square. My question: What might be the most probable reasons for the missing grid squares?? Again, most do end up being populated during import. I would guess 10-20% are missing. I can post the .adif log I am using but it is 2.9 MB and I am not exactly sure how to share it or if I need to do that for complete understanding. Thank you in advance for any thoughts. I hope I provided enough info, if not, please let me know what othe info would be helpful/needed. Thank you in advance. -- Mike KM2B

DXView 4.9.8 is available
Before installing or upgrading to DXView 4.9.8, review the Notes below. This version - correctly processes a CTRL-click in the user-specified digital mode family row of the Main window's Progress table - if the Translations window is minimized when DXView is terminated, minimizes this window when DXView is next started - provides an "Upgrade All" button on the Configuration window's Databases tab; this button is enabled when upgrades are available for one or more installed Databases (tnx to Dave W6DE) - updates the Configuration.htm and Prerequisites documentation files Notes: 1. Update your firewall and anti-malware applications to consider this new version of DXView to be "safe" Virus total: 0 of 73 engines detected malware Jotti: 0 of 13 engines detected malware 2. Logging on DZ lab through JTAlert
4
When I finish a QSO on ft8 and log it, JTAlert sends that log file to my DXKeeper log file. Exactly what I want. Then when I send my response and send my response and power, when I hit ok a second file gets sent to my DXkeeper log file. I have to delete one each time a log a new contact. How do I stop that? Al. LoTW status error?
7
I received the following resposnse from LoTW after giving it a Sync LoTW QSOs button press: Date Time Call Band Mode Submode Station Call Result 2025-03-18 02:42:06 6Y7EI 80M FT8 W5SV Error: no matching QSO in log LotW Sync QSLs: 1 QSL processed, 0 log entries updated, 1 error I checked the log, and that QSO was in doubt, and I had confirmed a QSO with that station about 7 hours later, so I deleted the corresponding entry in DXKeeper. However, I still get the same error now. What do I need to do to eliminate that error? I assume somehow remove it from LoTW, but how? Thanks in advance & 73 de Dave, W5SV

Populating maps with log data?

Is there a way to populate one of the DXLab maps with log records? I am wondering whether worked or confirmed DXCC entities or zones can be illustrated on associated maps. I have DX Atlas. Thanks Rich, NU6T

My last 12 OSO's would not upload to Lotw
7
When I submit most requested I get a blank window. If I try to upload manually I get a message that no QSO's were submitted because some QSO's were already uploaded or invalid. Of course checking Lotw shows none of the 12 were submitted? If I look at what should have been uploaded I see a message that says Invalid prop mode (internet) on line 5 ? This all started on March 16th. I did submit for a new TQSL for our club station on March 14. When I look at TQSL certificates it still shows that my certificate is active and usable. Each TQSL is under its own call sign. Anyone have an idea? Al. KA9OUT

Prefix/Call not transferred to DXKeeper
4
Double clicking a call in SpotCollector with a prefix/call sign eg. FY/X8WW shows up in the DXKeeper filter box as X8WW but.... does show up in Capture as FY/X8WW with the prefix DXCC (FY) and is logged as FY/X8WW. While it is nice to know I worked the base call before I also have interest in knowing if I have worked the prefix DX before. Is this something that can be changed so the entire call is used to filter DXKeeper not just the 'base' call? Perhaps a toggle between the two? Thanks for DXLab it is surely the pinnacle of logging programs. 73 Den
