USB to Serial Port Adaptors
One of the things that I was surprised and pleased about after installing Windows 7 is that when I plugged in my K1EL WKUSB keyer, the USB driver installed automatically without a hitch and it worked right off the bat with no hassle. That Keyer has a USB to serial port chip in it, model FT232RL manufactured by FTDI. I wouldn't be surprised to find that Microham is using the same chip (Joe?). I just did some Googling for FT232L and found that there are a number of manufactures making USB to Serial port adapter cables utilizing that chip and most are selling for between $10 and $20. If any one has tried or is willing to try one of those I'm sure members of this group would like to hear about it.

That works really well, as long as all the applications / hardware that has FTDI chips all work well with the same driver level.
I had a couple of amateur radio devices that used FTDI drivers. One installed version X of the drivers, the other product installed version Y of the drivers, and the first product wouldn¡¯t work with the other product¡¯s version of those drivers. It was a transient situation, but frustrating nonetheless. Dick, K6KR From: dxlab@... That Keyer has a USB to serial port chip in it, model FT232RLmicroHAM use FTDI USB UART chipsets. Most of the current designs use the FT232R but older units used other FTDI chips like the FT232B. However, the same driver package supports all of the chipsets. Note, FTDI support two modes of operation - VCP (virtual COM Port) and D2XX (DLL calls). The problem K6KR refers to is one in which some vendors disable the D2XX modes in their drivers (or distribute older drivers that did not support D2XX). Fortunately, such irresponsible behavior had generally faded and FTDI have released "common" drivers for all 32/64 bit versions of Windows (Windows 2000 - Windows 7) as of 3 Nov 2009. 73, ... On one of my other forums (I think it's the N1MM forum) there have been numerous comments that when purchasing a USB to Serial converter, look for one with the FTDI chipset.
