DXLab's WW & KY CW COM

Rob Dennison

Gentlemen,

Just heard that DXLab's WinWarbler has implemented Kenwood's KY command
for sending CW via the CAT interface. Since PowerSDR also implemented
the KY command, it should be a snap to send CW via SDRxKs from WW.

Because KY using an alpha string there should be no timing problems at
all. Or more precisely any timing problems could be corrected inside
PowerSDR.

A WW user would have to tell us how to select KY for CW transfer to
PowerSDR.

Hope this helps,

This is accomplished via a collaboration between Commander and WinWarbler.
If the "Radio Model" specified in Commander is one capable of generating CW
from text via CAT commands, then Commander alerts WinWarbler, which enables
the "Xcvr Ctrl SW" option in the Keying panel on the CW tab of WInWarbler's
Config window. With "Xcvr Ctrl SW" selected for CW keying, WinWarbler
generates CW by conveying the text to Commander, which in turn uses the
appropriate CAT commands to direct the transceiver to send the text in CW.

At present, this arrangement works with the Kenwood TS-480 and TS-2000, the
Elecraft K2 (and hopefully the K3), and the FlexRadio SDR-1000 when running
PowerSDR. All of these transceivers support variants of the Kenwood CAT
instruction set, including the KY command used to generate CW.

I have a TS870 and according to my manual it allows the KY command but the
option is gray on my system.
I do not see any of those models in the radio panel. It has only KENWOOD as
a choice.

The TS-870S manual downloadable from

is a scanned copy; the description of the KY command is completely
unreadable. Someone mailed me a physical copy of this manual's CAT
description, but as luck would have it the description of KY wasn't
fully copied, ending with the tantalizing words "The internal buffer
allows approximately 5 times 28 characters (~140 characters) to be
continuously keyed. For programs that convert to Morse code
immediately after entry, more continuous keying is possible...". The
description of the command's P2 parameter, which enables reliable CW
buffer management, is missing. Thus the current release of Commander
does not signal WinWarbler that it can accept CW when its Radio Model
selector is set to Kenwood and the transceiver has identified itself
to Commander as a TS-870S.

If you can send me the complete description of the TS-870S
implementation of the KY command, I'll be able to determine what's
feasible.
