For those needing more serial ports
Dave
For anyone who has none or not enough serial ports, you might try
looking at some of the PC parts distributors such as newegg.com for specials on 2 or 4 port PCI card adapters. I got a 4-port card for around $12 for my PC that came with zero serial ports! It takes up a card slot, but at least those I have a few of! 73 Dave KB3MOW |

That is how I do it too. I have to 2 port cards and they even work on Vista.

Some do not though, you have to check. I tried to replace it with a 4 port card by the same maker And it would not work even though control panel said it was, no output ! Gil, W0MN N 44.082056 W 92.513024 1050' Hierro Candente, Batir de repente -----Original Message----- |
I am very happy with my MOXA card with 8 serial ports I use on my
amateur radio pc at home. I use this card together with XP but it worked without any problems with W2K as well. 73 Juergen, DL8LE --- In dxlab@..., "rojomn" <rojomn@...> wrote: on Vista. Has anyone tried the USB to Serial adapters? I've used them for different applications and they've done fine.
I just upgraded the ham radio computer (beneficiary of a major upgrade to the main computer in my office/shack) and the new ham computer only has one serial port. I need two for the control of my radio. So the consideration is the USB to Serial route. I've got plenty of available USB ports. Dan W. Dooley WB5TKA Dooley's Treasure Chest email: dandooley@... |

I use the F5U409 USB to Serial adapter by Belkin. It is available from Staples and other dealers for about $20. I use it for both the serial connectivity to my K2 and my Rigblaster Pro. It works very well and supports ALL the RS232 serial lines. I know other hams using this adapter as well, nothing but glowing reports. 73, Bill - WA5PB On 8/19/07, Dan W. I use a Keyspan single port USB-to-serial adaptor with my laptop
(running XP) and with my Vista test system; it works well in both configurations. I use a VSCOM 8-port USB-to-serial adaptor on my primary development/operations PC (running XP); it too works flawlessly. VSCOM also makes 2-port and 4-port units. 73, Dave, AA6YQ --- In dxlab@..., "Dan W.
