Re: CBA Lookup for AD1L
Bruce, many thanks for reporting this behavior, as it exposed a
vulnerability in the way Pathfinder was searching the information on the web page displayed by QRZ.com. I created a new version of Pathfinder in which this vulnerability has been eliminated, and sent it to you via email; please let me know how it goes. This new version also captures CQ zone, ITU zone, and Web Page URL information if QRZ.com returns it -- which isn't the case with every callsign. I have updated the next version of DXKeeper to capture this additional information when its provided. 73, Dave, AA6YQ |
Re: OT desktop computer advise
MMVARI AND NEWEST MMTTY work fine on not default sound so why SSBBecause N1MM Logger has to switch the output from left to right in playback (for SO2R) and it switches the input from mic (for SSB transmit) to Line (for recording QSOs) between TX and RX but MMTTY/MMVARI only need the Line In for decoding. The audio interfaces are completely different between XP and earlier (which was current when N1MM Logger was first written) and Vista/Win 7. Windows XP and earlier was hardware oriented and allowed any application to access the select/mute switches and hardware mixer on the soundcard. Vista/Win 7 is "endpoint" oriented and does not allow the application to access hardware at all. Instead, Vista/Win 7 creates a separate virtual mixer for each input and each output. Vista/Win 7 maintains control of the "master" level for each input/output and only allows each application to control the level as a percentage of the system set maximum. In addition to everything else, Vista and Win 7 allow only one input and one output on a card to be active at a time. Thus if one application is using the mic input the line input on that card will not be available until the mic input is closed. 73, ... Joe, W4TV -----Original Message----- |

Any computer you can buy today new will have more than enough power
and even without dual core. N1MM works fine for CW on W7 but if you want to send SSB sounds you MUST use the default sound card. I consider that a deal breaker for some. I do not know that graphics but if it is dual head then it will do dual monitor. MMVARI AND NEWEST MMTTY work fine on not default sound so why SSB macros do not I fail to understand? OT desktop computer advise
I an thinking about getting a new desktop, as well as the netbook.
I will be running mostly ham radio programs (dxlabs, N1MM logger, Multipsk, Airmail) but will also be the general all around house computer. I do some picture editing (nothing intense), music, and of course the internet. Not much into games, other than the older command and conquor games. How much performance gain will I see with the Intel? Core? 2 Duo E7500 (3MB L2, 2.93GHz, 1066FSB, over the Intel? Pentium? dual-core E5300 (2MB L2, 2.6GHz, 800FSB)? Everything else being equal. Will the Integrated Intel? GMA x4500 Graphics do 2 monitors, with the desktop expanded across both monitors? Would I really gain anything with the ATI Radeon HD 4350 512MB? Unless I get new monitors also, I would be useing VGA CRT monitors that I already have. Do the programs I listed work well on Windows 7? Thanks for the help. Lee KC4ART |
Drinking from a fire hose with SpotCollector
This weekend I ran the QS1R SDR receiver with Skimmer Server software from
VE3NEA. This infrastructure can monitor CW QSOs on seven bands at once, 192khz on each band. Using the most rigorous filter settings, this generated more than 187K spots, or more than one each second. Of course, at certain periods the throughput was much higher than this average. I am not a contester but I thought I might do some DXing using these spots. But they came so fast and had so many spots for the big US and European contest stations, it was a real challenge to find the few spots that were of interest. SpotCollector, using the "Need" filter was the best tool I found to deal with this. I need a faster computer for DXLab if I am going to do this. My AMD Athlon 64 3200 box was running 100% CPU utilization even when I frequently cleared the spot database. However none of my other DX Cluster tools was able to reduce the torrent of spots to something useful. (The QS1R is on its own machine.) It was fun. If you live in the Middle Atlantic states where your propagation would be similar to mine, you are welcome to telnet into the CQ spot stream at anytime at cw.wz7i.com, port 7300. I have a Kenwood Ts-2000 and ran into a similiar situation a few weeks ago. It turned out that the freq don't update when the radio is in Memory mode. I had recently programmed in all the local repeaters and had it scan them in memory mode. While it is scanning it appears similiar to how yours does. I have the PC light but no updates until I put it back in VFO mode. Michael, AA5SH --- In dxlab@..., "Dave AA6YQ" <aa6yq@...> wrote:
