Re: Pathfinder Freezes
+ AA6YQ comments below
+ You are the only one reporting this behavior. If the failure is intermittent, that greatly increases the likelihood of it being a problem specific to your system. + Pathfinder is Internet Explorer with some buttons provided to accelerate searches for QSL information. If the misbehavior you are reporting is the result of a software defect, that defect lies in Internet Explorer. ? ? ? ? ? ? 73, ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Dave, AA6YQ |
Re: Pathfinder Freezes
There's not enough hours, days or years left in my lifetime to try to get anything from Microsoft.?
?
At least when I posted this a few years ago, I was not the only one experiencing the issue.? ? If I am not the only person with the issue, it reduces the chance that it is my computer set up (which is the same computer for the past ten years or so)
?
I checked the Config in PF and it is set at 11.? ?
?
I cannot make this happen, I have tried.? It is purely random.? ?When it is locked up, I have tried various attempts at resurrection before termination.? ?You can hover the mouse over the PF window and the Window wakes up.? But the mouse will not do anything.? ? No responses to clicks on anything on the window.? If you move the mouse to another window, the new window activates and the mouse works fine.? ?PF is on its own monitor and consumes the entire monitor screen.? I have changed monitors, changed video drivers and no difference noted.? The only thing that I think may be a common denominator is that it seems to occur when the radio is just sitting on and not being used for some extended period.? ?But not every time as I often leave the radio on during the day while I am doing other stuff, when I return most times it is normal.? ?
?
Because of the random nature of the issue, I am hesitant to do the "safe mode" test I it could set there for hours and nothing would happen.? ?This may occur every two or three days of routinely operating.? ?
?
Is there something that I can change and run an extended test while normally operating?

Pathfinder freezing has continued to be a problem since this was first posted years ago. Since then I have changed monitors, video drivers, versions of Pathfinder, and it still locks up. When it does, you can activate the window with a mouse click, but it is totally unresponsive to any mouse clicks beyond that. You have to terminate via Launcher (Control Click) or thought Task Manager. When it restarts, all if hunky Dorey until the next ice age appears. + Reboot Windows into "Safe Mode with Networking" and then start Pathfinder with no other applications running. Open the Configuration window and make sure the "Internet Explorer Emulation" at the bottom shows version 11; if not, click the "Update Emulation" button. + Does Pathfinder still freeze? 73, Dave, AA6YQ |

Where on the dxcc record does it state whether its card or lotw, and why does it matter?

+ The report was not solely "card confirmation vs LOTW confirmation". The report was "DXCC credit granted" vs "No DXCC credit granted". Dave On Mar 30, 2025, at 11:53?AM, Joe Subich, W4TV <lists@...> wrote: |
Re: Verified vs Confirmed on LoTW
DXCC entities verified by cards only have the information from the card that applies to DXCC, so if that particular card is also good for WAZ or VUCC you would have to resubmit it for the other award. LOTW confirmations/verifications contain that extra info so you can more easily get credit for other awards.

Sounds like an issue with the Microsoft supplied Internet Explorer DLLs.

Weeks ago I made an application to lotw for new credits, less than 40. After a few more weeks, the application was completed, all good. The problem reported in this thread is not "user confusion over terminology", as implied by the post below. The problem is that LoTW has begun misreporting "DXCC Credit" status for some QSOs confirmed via LoTW and submitted for DXCC credit.
73, Dave, AA6YQ Not so complicated: Confirmed QSOs * A confirmed QSO means that both parties (you and the other operator) have uploaded matching logs to LoTW. * The system checks the date, time, frequency, and mode, and if they match within certain tolerances, it confirms the QSO. * This is what counts toward award credit (e.g., DXCC, WAS, VUCC). So: Confirmed = Matched and valid in LoTW = Counts for awards. ________________________________ ? Verified QSOs * A verified QSO is typically one that has already been used for award credit, such as a confirmed QSO you've applied toward your DXCC or WAS certificate. * It’s like a step beyond "confirmed" — it's confirmed and officially credited in your award application. So: Verified = Confirmed + Used for award credit (and accepted). |

Now that you make me think about it, some months ago I've bought a new DELL Keyboard/Mouse wireless set. Apart from this i didn't make changes (hardware or software) except changing the mouse color pointer (Mouse Windows preferences) choosing black pointer on white background (I'm an Apple technician since 1984). After reading your post i restored the default setup (white pointer on white background) and double clicking on a spot now the frequency change! Incredible! + I'm glad that the "fix" was simple, Franco. + When the behavior of a DXLab application suddenly changes, it's essential to immediately determine what cause that change. If you procrastinate, you may forget information about what changes you made to your hardware and software that may be responsible. Dave, AA6YQ |
