Pathfinder freezing has continued to be a problem since this was first posted years ago. Since then I have changed monitors, video drivers, versions of Pathfinder, and it still locks up. When it does, you can activate the window with a mouse click, but it is totally unresponsive to any mouse clicks beyond that. You have to terminate via Launcher (Control Click) or thought Task Manager.
When it restarts, all if hunky Dorey until the next ice age appears.
+ Reboot Windows into "Safe Mode with Networking" and then start Pathfinder with no other applications running. Open the Configuration window and make sure the "Internet Explorer Emulation" at the bottom shows version 11; if not, click the "Update Emulation" button.
