Using DXKeeper 17.9.9
?
I have imported an .adif log using the procedure here:
?
I have checked, in the upper left of the ImportQSOs tab "Query callbook and available databases for missing items".
?
In the Callbook tab I also have selected, at the bottom, the radio button for Callbook under Preferred Location Source.
?
I have selected, under QRZ.com, the radio button XML Data and provided my login to qrz.com and I have a valid xml data subscription.??
?
I also, under Secondary Callbook, have checked enabled and selected HamQTH and clicked "warn when primary callbook cannot be accessed".??
?
However, after import the import completes, MOST of the grid squares are in the log, BUT, there are some missing grid squares.? ?I then use the grid squares to compute the distance with the procedure that is posted online in the help files (setting the antenna path to short? with advanced filter).? ??
?
I have gone back to QRZ to see if QRZ.com has the grid square listed for the missing grid squares and qrz DOES have the grid square.? ?
?
My question:? ?What might be the most probable reasons for the missing grid squares??
?
+ In the QRZ.com panel on the Configuration window's Callbook tab, is the "Ignore geocoded gridsquare ..." box checked?

"check the?Ignore geocoded grid squares, latitudes, and longitudes?box if location data derived from the postal address via "geocoding" should not be used (location data provided by the callsign's owner will always be used)"

(IC-7600 and DXLabCommander do not work together.)
PC Start ?Regulated Power Supply?IC-7600 ?Start DXLabCommander

This should work since the "COM" port for the IC-7600 will be
present by the time Commander attempts to access it.

If you are using the USB connection to your IC 7600, the connection
(ports) do not exist until the IC7600 is turned on as the USB
interface chip is powered by the rig and not by the computer as
in the case of most USB devices.

This is a failure of *most* rigs as the rig designers ignored
the simple design steps to allow the USB Bridge to be powered
by either computer or rig (basically a pair of diodes!).

DXLab Suite, like most Windows software can not work with USB devices
that are not present ("COM" port does not exist) when the software
starts.

Leave the PW1 alone do not push the PW1 power ON button. The PW1 will now be in standby mode.

Prefix/Call not transferred to DXKeeper

Double clicking a call in SpotCollector with a prefix/call sign eg. FY/X8WW shows up in the DXKeeper filter box as X8WW but.... does show up in Capture as FY/X8WW with the prefix DXCC (FY) and is logged as FY/X8WW.
While it is nice to know I worked the base call before I also have interest in knowing if I have worked the prefix DX before.
Is this something that can be changed so the entire call is used to filter DXKeeper not just the 'base' call? Perhaps a toggle between the two?
Thanks for DXLab it is surely the pinnacle of logging programs.

Anyone that can afford a reasonable HF station these days can afford QRZ. It ?is far more up to date and has far more information than the old days of the callbook. That book and or CDs if adjusted for inflation was far more expensive and far less useful.

Re: QRZ subscription value?

One use case, of mine, might be of interest to you regarding QRZ.com "xml data subscription".
?
First, I use DXKeeper for my logbook.? Which enables me to set specific fields of interest for display after I log a contact.
?
DXKeeper also enables me to automatically query the qrz.com data base (with the xml data subscription) when you enter a new contact.
?
DXKeeper ALSO allows you to customize key information you would like displayed AFTER a query to qrz.com xml database.
?
for example, after a query, my log book, for the relevant call sign, will show
?
callsign? ? Date/Time? ? Band? ? Mode? ?Operator Name? ?QTH? ?Grid Square? ?DISTANCE
?
DISTANCE, on the right, is always of interest for me on any given day.? ?
?
All of the above information emits from a xml data query made by DXKeeper and all for some tiny payment.?
?
I obtain a 5 year subscription which worked out to be not much a year (I don't recall but even for my very tight budget it is not a big deal).
?
I hope this helps.? I personally think xml data subscription is required for any ham operator if you are even slightly interested in who your most recent contact was AND enabling a log with some detailed information so you can look back later.??
?
Like I say, I am always excited to make contact 5000 miles away.? ?Still seems magical and my shows the magic via the xml query from DXKeeper to qrz.com.??
?
Thank you for reading.??

Re: LoTW status error?

+ AA6YQ comments below

I received the following resposnse from LoTW after giving it a Sync LoTW QSOs button press:

Date Time Call Band Mode Submode Station Call Result

2025-03-18 02:42:06 6Y7EI 80M FT8 W5SV Error: no matching QSO in log

LotW Sync QSLs: 1 QSL processed, 0 log entries updated, 1 error

I checked the log, and that QSO was in doubt, and I had confirmed a QSO with that station about 7 hours later, so I deleted the corresponding entry in DXKeeper.

+ Are you saying that the following actions occurred in this sequence?

1. you logged a QSO with 6Y8EI on 80m FT8 in DXKeeper

2. DXKeeper uploaded that QSO to LoTW

3. You invoked "Sync LoTW QSOs"

4. The " Error: no matching QSO in log" error message was displayed?

If so, the only explanation is that the QSO in our log was modified after you uploaded it to LoTW. To correct this,

5. log in to your LoTW account

6. locate the QSO with 6Y8EI

7. compare the details (date, time, band mode, etc.) with those of the 6Y8EI QSO in your log

8. modify the QSO in your log to match what's shown in LoTW, and save it.

9. with the 6Y8EI QSO's entry in the Log Page Display selected, right-click and choose "Update from LoTW" from the popup menu.

Re: IC-PW1 configuration in DXLabCommander

I do not see where you turn on your computer.

In addition, you say you are turning on and off your 7600 power.? Do not turn on or off your 7600 with the switch on your power supply.? Turn on your power supply first, then push the power button on the 7600 to turn on the 7600.? Turn off your 7600 with the bower button on the 7600 first then turn off your 7600’s power supply.

?

Also:? Once the PW1 is connected to the Mains AC power, the PW1 is always on and asleep.? The power button on the PW1 control panel turns on the PW1 ability to amplify the radio signals.? In addition with the Accessory cable connected between an Icom Radio and the PW1, then turning on the Icom Radio will place the PW1 in stand by and allow the Icom Radio to make antenna selections and allow the Icom Radio to operate “barefoot” through the PW1.?

Caution with low serial number PW1s serial numbers below about # 1030 will not operate in standby.? [I don’t remember the actual serial number, check further if it is below 1050.]

?

Here are some diagnostic steps to help see what is happening:

With the PW1 off, disconnect the PW1 to 7600 accessory cable also disconnect the PW1 CIV cable. Turn on your computer first then turn on your IC-7600.? Check to see that you can control the 7600 with DXLabs.?

If this does not work you need to fix your Commander 7600’s Configuration. ?Check the CIV speed settings and address for the 7600 primary port.? And while you are there check the secondary port for the PW1. ??In Commander’s Configuration you need to have se same speed and CIV address in both the primary and secondary Ports—see:

?

If you can do the previous test, shut down the 7600 with the 7600 power button.? Connect the 7600 to PW1 accessory cable and CIV cable.?

Leave the PW1 alone do not push the PW1 power ON button.? The PW1 will now be in standby mode.?

Can you now change bands on the PW1 by changing bands from the 7600 and/or the DXLab applications?

?

If the first or second test fails. You will need to resync your PW1 to your 7600 radio as described in the PW1 manual.? You need a direct PW1 to 7600 CIV connection to do this—do not use the computer CIV connections in this PW1 to 7600 Sync operation.?

?

Until you can control the PW1 in standby you do not have a reliable CIV between your 7600 and PW1.? And you will not be able to reliably use DXLab and commander to control your PW1.

?

I have not yet received a response from ICOM, but I am beginning to understand the conditions when IC-PW1 becomes uncontrollable.

?

1, I have tried changing the USB port that connects the CI-V interface of the IC-PW1 to the PC, or changing the interface cable. it seems that the IC-PW1 becomes controllable in more cases, but not 100% controllable.

2, When IC-PW1 is powered off for a long time (for example, when it is powered on for the first time that day), DXLabCommander is unable to control IC-PW1 even if it is powered on. However, after that, when the power is turned on and off several times, the PW1 alert lights up and the IC-PW1 becomes controllable, and after that, the IC-PW1 remains controllable even if the power is turned on and off repeatedly.

3, Whether DXLabCommander can or cannot control IC-PW1 is determined when power is supplied to IC-PW1 by turning on the IC-7600 power supply, or when IC-PW1's POWER switch is turned on, in other words, when power for IC-PW1 control is turned on. 4, Once IC-PW1 is powered on, the power switch of IC-PW1 is turned on.

4, Once the IC-PW1 is in a controllable state and the power is turned on, it will remain so until the power is turned off. However, once the power is turned off, it is not known whether the IC-PW1 will be in a controllable state (PW1 alert lights up) the next time the power is turned on.

5, This phenomenon appears when DXLabCommander is used, but not when IC-7600 and IC-PW1 are directly connected. Also, I had previously connected IC-PW1 and SteppIR with IC-7600 and CI-V interface (improved version of CT-17) and IC-PW1 was controllable.

?

I wish I had a clue how to solve this problem, but this is what I can confirm now.

?
