Strange behavior in DXLab database storage after January 14 on Windows10

After reading online issues with the January 14, 2025 update, I am wondering if the following problem is related.
On January 14, prior to the Windows update, , the storage space at 17:42 EST indicated 191,556KB for about 177,000 QSO's.
The following day, on January 15, the next backup indicated 192,504KB and that number hasn't incremented since then, in spite of adding about 200 new QSO's. I made 14 copies after each radio sessions since then.
Yesterday, I did a recompile of the database but that did not change the MDB file count.
Is this a normal behavior? What can I do to further check the integrity of my log??

Dave, than you for sharing this info.? Since this update, my computer was unable to do a number of things and I was chasing problems that were caused by that update.? I uninstalled it and now my computer is much happier.

Re: Installing DXLab on Win11 machine

I did this exact same transfer 2 weeks ago; old Win 10 PC to new Win 11 PC. Of the several Ham radio related programs I moved, DXLabs was actually the easiest! I printed out Dave's instructions (5 pages), which Dave provided the link to earlier in this thread, and checked off each step as I went. At first it did look a bit overwhelming, but it wasn't bad at all. There were a number of sections that didn't apply to me since I had not made any changes or modifications to that application. I read through it, checked it off, and moved on.
?
I thought about trying to transfer files over my local network, but decided it was easier for me to use a USB thumb drive. Thanks Dave (and any helpers) for the excellent instructions and all your work for our benefit!

Good luck & 73,

Re: Installing DXLab on Win11 machine

I have done the "moving between PCs" process several times over the years.??

Print out the web page on Moving Between PCs, and check off each step as you perform it.? Read each step very carefully, as the descriptions of what you need to do and where you need to do it are precise.??

Every problem I've ever had (and all have been minor) was something that was easily corrected with a few emails here.??

Good luck!

From what I am reading I will make a copy of both databases to a thumb drive. My next step is to download the launcher and start the application and copy the data bases into the C drive in the DXKeeper data bases folder and then run the application.

I have read and reread the moving between PCs. I am really just trying to get a feel for what I am about to do and REALLY do not want to screw this up. Initially I had hoped that I could use Workspaces to populate commander but that appears not to be the case. This looks like a long and intense process, or am I just confused?

Marker size on google mymaps?

Dave,
?
I, not infrequently, use the dxview capability to generate a .kml file over a filtered period of time in dxkeeper and then view the results in both google earth and google maps.? This is a great feature and thank you.??
?
When I load the .kml file to google earth, the marker size (large, medium or small) selection in DXView does visually change from large, medium to small on google earth view.
?
However, when I use the exact same .kml file at google mymaps the selection of marker size in dxview seems have no effect on marker size.? ?Marker size is always, to me, too large, in the default view, and the same size independent of marker selection size in DXview.? NOTE:? If I then zoom in substantially, eventually the marker sizes are more proportionate to the map scale.? But, at the initial, overall view, and the first few zooms, they are seem large and non-responsive to (small, medium, large).
?
A virus free google mymaps link to my 2025 contacts generated with DXview (marker size small) shows the issue.
?
My monitor max resolution is 2560 x 1400 for reference (since it may look different on different monitors). I have a screen snap below.
?
Is there a way for me to shrink the size of the markers on google mymaps?? I have read much of the google mymaps documentation and the only way I can see to do is using the scale command during the kml creation BUT I am assuming you are already doing that with size small, medium and large.??
?
Your thoughts would be very helpful.? Thank you.
?
Also, this is not a big deal, but, it would be nice to have smaller markers on google my maps.??

Re: Installing DXLab on Win11 machine

I just moved from my old shack PC to a new Win11 PC yesterday. I followed Dave’s excellent documentation for the process and it went flawlessly.
It might look like a lot of steps, but it’s pretty painless.

Re: "The Windows January updates are a mess; here's why you should wait to install"

Pretty sure I got bit by this…

I got a new Win11 shack PC yesterday and started setting it up. Got all the DXLab stuff and my SDR installed and working.

Today I went to set up the rest of the stuff I use, and found that the audio no longer worked. Updates had occurred during the night.?

Everything LOOKED fine- just no sound. I finally rolled back the driver for the built in audio, and all was well.

Sometimes “new” is NOT “improved”…

I updated to 24H2 and it messed up the connection with my scanner. I had to call Canon for the fix.?

I will wait to upgrade the next time.

How will the use of different monitors (number, resolution etc.) between the 2 PCs affect the transfer?? Especially when loading the workspace?? Beyond perhaps the need to rearrange the various DXLab windows on the new PC?
+ Each DXLab application stores the XY coordinates of each of its windows in the Windows Registry. A Workspace populated with the settings of one or more applications thus contains the window positions from all of those applications. Restoring that workspace on a new computer and then starting DXLab applications there will faithfully reproduce your previous window layout - in terms of XY coordinates.

+ That's fine if your old and new systems each have a single monitor. If either or both have more than one monitor, the result may not be to your liking because of the way Windows uses XY coordinates to encode monitor selection.

+ To update the window positions of each of your DXLab applications on your new computer,

1. terminate all running DXLab applications except the Launcher; if the Launcher isn't running, start it

2. direct the Launcher to start a DXLab application whose window positions you haven't yet updated; if there aren't any, this window position update procedure is complete

3. near the lower-left corner of the Launcher's Configuration window, click the Reset button; the Launcher will direct the running application to place all of its windows in the upper-left corner of your primary monitor

4. move each of those windows to the desired monitor and location on that monitor

5. close each window that you don't want automatically opened when you start the application

6. terminate the application

7. go to step 2

+ The above procedure is now step 11 in

Re: Installing DXLab on Win11 machine

Hi James,
?
I've recently completed an upgrade from WIN10 to WIN11 followed by migration of DXLab to WIN11. As with all things DXLab, the documentation for doing this is complete, correct, and up-to-date.
If you can follow written directions you will be successful. Take your time. Be sure you understand what the directions want you to do. Let us know that you have been successful.

Re: Installing DXLab on Win11 machine

I just did such a transfer from a Wn10 to a new Win11 machine. Do EXACTLY what Dave delineates in his instructions. It all worked great. The only mistake I made was failing to transfer one or two of the files he told me to do. Then, once I did that, all was well.

It will take a bit of time, but if you are careful and do what the instructions say, it will work fine.
