Re: Import Special event call log into my log

+ AA6YQ comments below

I worked a state QSO Pty with a special event call and want to now import that into my log and upload to LotW.
I already have a LotW certificate setup for the 1x1 call I used.
Any help is appreciated.

+ See

<>

+ or click one of DXKeeper's Help buttons and then navigate to the "Importing ADIF and Tab-delimited Files" topic.

+ Check out the available "Import Options" to see if any are needed given the content of the ADIF file you are importing:

<>

+ Before importing, backup your log (Configuration window, Log tab, Backup button); this will provide a quick "undo" capability if the import doesn't go as expected, or you choose to re-import with a different set of options enabled.

+ If you have questions after you review the documentation, don't hesitate to post them here.

My solution was simple - completely disable Windows Defender (which in my very humble opinion is total rubbish!) and install a DECENT Antivirus solution - in my case ESET Internet Security. (ESET Nod32 is also very good!)

Being an IT Support Tech in a 3rd-World country where TARGETED virus and ransomware attacks are quite commonplace, a decent antivirus/malware solution is a necessity. Quite simply put, when it comes to internet security you get what you pay for - and Windows Defender is simply not good enough, either AVG or AVAST are significantly better but STILL not good enough in an environment such as ours in South Africa. I have lost count of the number of client systems running these free packages that when scanned with a decent product have proved to be riddled with malignant viruses and Trojans! I also suffered a hit several years ago - infected by a virus that came straight through my AVAST Free package - which is what prompted me to investigate the decent options!

As a dealer I have access to all the leading brands of Security products - why I went for ESET was due to it's VERY good record with Day Zero detection. This proved extremely valuable during some of the recent Ransomware attacks, where it's Heuristics identified and blocked attacks like Wannacry and Petya. This saved two of my customers that were targeted. At least 5 other companies in my city were not so lucky. Whilst products such as Kaspersky and BitDefender have good reputations, I have found that ESET is outstanding as far as minimal False Positives is concerned whilst correctly identifying VALID threats to my system. (No problem with either DXLabs or JTAlert!)

Of course the threat level in a 1st-World country like the USA may be totally different - I can only speak from my experience here in Africa - so free packages may work for you over there.... just hope and pray you never get the level of targeting that we have down here!!! Incidentally, as a former Apple Service Tech from the 90's I can NEVER bring myself to trust Micro$oft with the security of my system (the dishonest practices of Gates and Allen still linger in the mind, albeit that the consequences of their actions DID save Apple from bankruptcy and brought Steve Jobs back to the company.... and as they say, the rest is history!).

+ Thanks, Barry!

+ If ops using ESET post questions about it here -- like how to properly configure it -- will you be comfortable answering?

Re: Commander won't start all of a sudden

I had the same problem with Norton antivirus (supplied by Comcast, my ISP). ?Just as with MS Defender, I found that if I put in exclusions for each of the DXLab executables, I no longer had the problem. ?It takes a bit of work, but it's worth it.

Re: Import Special event call log into my log

What program did you use to work the contest?? Most logging and contest sofware will let you export to adif.

I would export it to adif.? Use TQSL to upload to LoTW, then import the adif into DXKeeper.??

Pathfinder Freezes

?
Good morning,

I have a problem with Pathfinder here.
Pathfinder sometimes freezes.
Then the only solution is CRTL-ALT-Delete and then force shutdown.
and restart again then work pathfinder again.
Sometimes it is very fast, other times it takes a little longer.
are there more who recognize this problem?
And perhaps already have a solution?
I work with the complete DXLSuite

thanks for the response.

Re: Help Commander Disappeared

What solved the problem for me on Windows 7:

Turn Essentials off, so I could turn Defender ON.
Add Commander to Defender excluded
Run Defender scan, all clean
Turn Defender off.
?
Following DXLab online directions on how to load Commander, till couldn't get 5.87 to unzip, but saw that my Commander/install had it still from original install.
Ran 5.87 exe from there.
Started Launcher - 5.87 shows up now!
Upgraded to 14.5.5 via Launcher Config, all works.

I work in Internet security and I don't recommend anyone run an Internet connected PC with no AV, unless they are willing to continually do the logical equivalent of digital separation, washing their digital hands continually and not touching their digital faces....? I've helped many hams figure out to recover from malware trashing their PC - more often than the AV trashing the ham software, as it definitely seemed to do on this occasion.?

But, all risk decisions are individual - YMMV.

Re: Commander Won't Start or Update

Thanks Dave,

+ That's likely because your anti-malware application erroneously decided
that Commander was infected and removed it. Either you
didn't have your anti-malware application configured to consider Commander
to be "safe", or you had it so configured but it removed
Commander anyway, in which case it is defective.

Windows Defender has it listed as Safe
+ As a first diagnostic step, run the "Remove a program" applet on the
Windows Control Panel; is Commander present on the list of
installed applications? (Do not remove any applications)

Yes, Commander is present on that list
+ As a second step, assuming that the file

CI-V Commander.exe

+ that you created in your Commander folder is still present, terminate and
then restart the Launcher. Then make an image capture of
the "DXLab Apps" tab of the Launcher's Configuration window, attach the
capture to an email message, and send the message to me via

aa6yq (at) ambersoft.com

Just sent the image

That being said, do I need to reinstall DXLab?

+ Absolutely not! Depending upon your response to the question above, it may
be necessary to uninstall and re-install Commander;
we'll see.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Commander
If so, will all the settings be lost? Or is there a way to back up all the
Settings before reinstalling?

+ Uninstalling and re-installing a DXLab application does not remove its
settings from the Windows Registry, but you should be
backing your settings as a matter of basic hygiene. See

Commander Won't Start or Update

开云体育

Hello Folks!

?

I started DXLab today and got a pop-up error message that Commander could not start because the program didn’t exist or couldn’t be found.

?

In the Launcher config window it shows a blank space under “Installed” and a new version 14.5.5 under the “Avail” heading.

?

When I click the upgrade button I get this error message: “Can’t replace C:\DXLab\Commander\CI-V Commander.exe because it’s either in use or write protected. Commander has not been upgraded”

?

The Commander folder does exist, and I can see all the previous versions from prior updates in there. And, the CI-V Commander.exe file is not write protected.

?

The Program Path showing in the Launcher config is correct: C:\DXLab\Commander\CI-V Commander.exe

?

The only ways I have found to work around this, and start Commander, is by appending the four numbers from the last version I had installed, in this case 1440, onto the filename in the Program Path field.

?

C:\DXLab\Commander\CI-V Commander1440.exe

?

Doing this I can use Commander no problem, but I still get the same “Can’t replace” error shown above if I attempt to upgrade again.

?

I’ve also tried copying and renaming the original CI-V Commander1440.exe to CI-V Commander.exe and it runs OK, but it still cannot be upgraded. The upgrade fails and the newly renamed CI-V Commander.exe gets deleted.

?

That being said, do I need to reinstall DXLab?

?

If so, will all the settings be lost? Or is there a way to back up all the Settings before reinstalling?

?

Re: Windows 10 Start menu does not list Commander

+ AA6YQ comments below

The Windows 10 Start menu does not list Commander (at least on my desktop computer).

The DXLabs Suite has five entries in its dropdown: DXKeeper, DXView, Pathfinder, Spot Collector and WinWarbler.

I didn't look for Commander in the Start menu dropdown prior to the recent Windows Defender snafu (which I also suffered), so I don't know if it was ever there. But for certain it is not there now.

Should Commander be in the Start menu's DXLabs Suite dropdown list?

+ The last Windows 10 machine on which I installed DXLab has an entry for "DXLab Suite" in the list of applications that appear when I click the "Window" button in the screen's lower-left corner. Beneath "DXLab Suite", entries for 7 DXLab applications are present; the Launcher is not present.

+ My advice is pin an entry for the DXLab Launcher on the Windows Task Bar, and use the Launcher to start the components of the Suite you use. You can configure the Launcher to automatically start those components when it starts.
