Re: Possible new feature?

Yes, that is what I mean, just a simple way to for example; take a quick look at the activity on a particular band or portion of band. Maybe have a function that would automatically repeat the process at specified intervals. That way you have it running while doing other things in the shack and keep an eye for the band to open.

Thanks

Re: Automatic Log Update

Here's an excerpt from the DXKeeper 8.3.3 release note:

"This release adds a new "IOTA Verified" item to each QSO in your log; it
then proceeds to initialize this new item in each logged QSO, which can take
a few minutes with large logs. A progress window appears while your log's
QSOs are being updated."

The full release note can be found here:
<>

The next release of DXKeeper will similarly update your logged QSOs to
reflect changes in the codes used to represent primary administrative
subdivisions in Italy and Sardinia that were implemented in the
recently-approved ADIF 2.2.4.

I am a new user of DXLab and am continually amazed at all the features it
has and the phenomenal support both from AA6YQ and this forum. Every time I
read over the manuals for each module I find out something new it can do. I
wonder if there has ever been any thought to adding some sort of band sweep
feature to give a quick look at overall activity on the band, something
similar to what the N4PY and HRD programs have? Not even sure if it is
possible or worth the effort, just thought I would ask here to see what the
consensus is.

Do you mean the ability to scan your transceiver from one frequency to
another while capturing and graphically displaying the instantaneous S-meter
reading?

Re: EXTFSK

Joe W4TV is the expert on the capabilities and configuration of microHam
products; I defer to him on these matters.

WinWarbler employs the MMTTY engine for RTTY transmission and reception;
many of the settings on the RTTY and PTT tabs of WinWarbler's Config window
directly control the MMTTY engine's behavior.

In order to give users full access to MMTTY's capabilities -- viewing and
tuning the filters used in its RTTY decoder, for example -- WinWarbler
provides access to MMTTY's Setup window. Access to this Setup window can
lead to confusion, however. If you modify an MMTTY engine parameter via its
Setup window, the change will take effect when you close Setup window;
however, this change will not be permanent if the parameter is one that is
also controlled by WinWarbler. The next time you start WinWarbler, it will
initialize this parameter to the previous value, overriding the change you
made on the MMTTY engine's Setup window. Changes to MMTTY engine parameters
that can be made via the RTTY and PTT tabs of WinWarbler's Config window
should only be made from these tabs; only parameters uniquely accessible
from the MMTTY engine's Setup window should be changed there.

EXTFSK should not be used with microHAM microKEYER,
microKEYER II, DigiKeyer or MK2R/MK2R+. Those interfaces
provide a UART that is equivalent (except or PTT timing
issues) to a motherboard serial port.

Set the "PTT" or "PTT & FSK" port on the MMTTY TX tab to the

set WinWarbler's RTTY "modulation and transceiver mode" to
FSK LSB and select your FSK port in the FSK Control box.

Re: Cheap Disk Drives

Spot Spy is a DXL add on written by DL9HO, hence the German site.

If you have Spot Spy installed and running.

1. Click on the Config button

2. Click on the tab labeled Alarms

3. Check the box Send E-mail (Note in the US/Canada, you probably will
never use the SMS config as is requires an SMS provider gateway)

4. In the email config, enter your "email address" of your cell phone
to send SMS messages

a. See in order to
determine your email address of your cell phone in order to send SMS
messages to it.

b. For instance if your provider is Verizon, use 1234567890@...
(replace the numbers with your 10 digit cell number)

5. Enter the email server info like you did for your PC email client
(outlook, etc)

6. You can set the alert triggers under the Alarms tab as well, in
addition to using the Needed Callsigns tab to enter specific calls, modes
and bands.

There are a bunch of other features, but that should get you started.

Well not with DXLab but in addition to it. You start watching a movie

spot comes in, you pause the movie, work the DX then go back to your

That's what I do. Joe DX tells me when I need to go down the hall to

Yes, priorities. One of my priorities is to limit my TeeVee watching
to stuff I like, when *I* want to watch it. I sort of knew that in
pre-DVR days, but tape management was always a hassle with the VCR.
Now my problem is that I tend to let content accumulate on the DVR
without watching it.

It's changed my viewing habits so much that if a new show catches my
interest, I have to ask if I am ready to commit to watching the new
content given what else I watch. More often than not, I say "nah".
Just said "yes" to Dr Who, though that is delivered by DVD/USPS; I
don't have the right setup to stream it directly from Netflix (their
postal distribution system works great though).

"Net net", as they say, is that we watch a lot less TeeVee. Not what
the conduit and content providers had in mind, I'm sure. :-)

But back to DXLabs. Storage is sort of a big-picture kind of topic,
but it *is* part of running DXLabs, I assure you. Understanding what
is available and potentially, what to avoid, is important.

Re: Commander Stopped working

The change I made to allow Commander 8.0.9 to initialize a K3 that was
powered up after Commander was already running resulted in compete failure
to initialize on a few systems. I have corrected this in Commander 8.1.0,
which I have sent you via email.

To answer your earlier question, yes, you could revert to Commander 8.0.5.
In general, one can always revert to a previous version of a DXLab
application; I encourage users to retain at least one known good working
version just in case a situation like that of Commander 8.0.9 occurs. The
only exception occurs when a new release of DXKeeper adds fields to the log
database; once a log is expanded, earlier versions of DXKeeper are unable to
open it. This does not happen very often, and its publicized when it does so
that users can take additional precautions.

Its also the case that no release is mandatory. You can skip new releases
that appear at inconvenient times or don't provide new capabilities you deem
compelling. When you finally do upgrade, you'll get everything you would
have gotten had you installed each new release in sequence.

I wasn't running two instances of the program. I was running one instance. When I cleared the password and command windows, I was able to log in fine. The initial command box was set to "N1HT".

However, when I left-click on the green button for each of the sites, only the window for KB1H opens up. I can click on the others until the cows come home and nothing happens. What's up with that?

Subject: [dxlab] SERIOUS problem with SC and spot sources

Just before CQWWCW I configured four spot sources in SC, dx-cluster, K1TTT,
K1EU and KB1H. They were set for auto and hide. DX-cluster was configured to
handle my outgoing spots. dx-cluster and KB1H worked fine. K1TTT allowed my
login and the sh/dx command to work but for some reason the sh/u failed on
that site. K1EU kept disconnecting me and telling me that "illegal"
characters were being transmitted with my call sign and dumping me off.

Yesterday, I spoke with Mike Russo, K1EU who complained that I was clogging
his cluster with disconnects caused by "invalid characters" being
transmitted when my call sign was sent by SC for login. He said he had 35
pages of disconnects. He finally blocked my access to his node. He explained
to me that it became almost a denial of service attack to his site because
other user were having difficulty using his site until he blocked me.

As an experiment, K1EU reauthorized me and I went to the YCCC web site
listing of all clusters and accessed K1EU's site through the link on that
page. No problem. However, when I brought up SC, the same errors and
disconnects happened. I have since removed his site from SC but that does
not answer the question. Since I can get in no problem with telnet, it would
appear that SC is transmitting something unseen in addition to my call sign
which is causing havoc at K1EU.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Anybody have a solution?

Marty, N1HT

Re: DXKeeper Country Issue

Dave,
Thanks for the great info!? Not only did it "cure" the UP0L problem, it also identfied a some problem calls and will lead to fixing some that I put in a fake country code just to get it entered into the log.? Sorry I missed this in the manual, but I have a long way to go in learning how to fully use this great capability.? Thanks for all you do it making it available and answering so many questions.

Jerry

Subject: [dxlab] DXKeeper Country Issue

I have been using DXLab for over a year when I can find the time and
continue to be amazed at all that it can do.? I think I have only begun to
scratch the surface of the capabilities and have just recently got started
with WinWarbler.? Thanks to everyone who has been part of providing us such
a wonderful capability.

Most things I have been able to figure out but I am stuck on a problem with
DXKeeper.? I have downloaded the latest country file.? But when I put in
UP0L I have a problem.? Same problem occurs with another call that I don't
remember at the moment.? Anyway, with UP0L, both DXView and DXKeeper come up
with UN as the country and the proper country code.? But when I try to LOG
the QSO, the DXCC title for the country field starts flashing red.? No
matter what I do, I cannot save the QSO unless I put in some other country
code.?

So why does it recognize the call with the correct DXCC entity information
but won't let me save it?? How do I resolve the problem?

When you update the DXCC database and the new version introduces new DXCC
entities or changes the prefixes associated with existing DXCC entities, it
is necessary to direct DXKeeper to perform a Recompute. Since you don't
mention the version of the DXCC database you were using before you updated
to the latest version, I suggest perform this Recompute; you'll find the
Recompute button at the bottom of the Main window's "Check Progress" tab. If
this doesn't clear up the problem with your UP0L QSO, please let me know.

Possible new feature?

I am a new user of DXLab and am continually amazed at all the features it has and the phenomenal support both from AA6YQ and this forum. Every time I read over the manuals for each module I find out something new it can do. I wonder if there has ever been any thought to adding some sort of band sweep feature to give a quick look at overall activity on the band, something similar to what the N4PY and HRD programs have? Not even sure if it is possible or worth the effort, just thought I would ask here to see what the consensus is.

Thanks

Commander was working fine until I upgraded to the latest version, 8.0.9.

I click on a spot in SC and nothing happens, although the DXK Capture

Any ideas on what may be happening or can I get back to the previous

Re: EXTFSK

Please open the Config window's RTTY tab, and in
the "Modulation and transceiver mode" panel's FSK sub-panel,
set the "FSK Control" to EXTFSK.
No, no ... microKEYER II will not work with EXTFSK.

- Open WinWarbler in RTTY mode.

- Open Winwarbler's Configuration panel

- Select FSK LSB in the Modulation and transceiver mode

- Set FSK Control to the FSK port defined in Router

- click the MMTTY Setup button

- Select the TX Tab and set PTT & FSK Port to the FSK
port defined in Router

- Select the Misc tab and set TX Port to either COM-TxD (FSK)
or Sound + COM-TxD (FSK).

WW/MMTTY will not retain my com port. It defaults to EXTFSK.
Where is WW/MMTTY installed - C:\Program Files or CL\DXlab Suite?
If the former and you are not using the "hidden" administrator
account, Vista or Windows 7 may be blocking (or redirecting)
writes to the mmtty.ini file.

Also in this FSK sub-panel,

- select LSB

- set the "Xcvr Mode" selector to the right of the LSB button to RTTY

- set the "Mark Offset" to the right of the above "Xcvr
Mode" selector to -2125

- set the Optimal Offset to 2210

I did exactly as you suggested prior to my query. WW/MMTTY
will not retain my com port. It defaults to EXTFSK. I don¡¯t
believe this is an MKII issue at all.

I¡¯m using Vista 32, BTY.

EXTFSK should not be used with microHAM microKEYER,
microKEYER II, DigiKeyer or MK2R/MK2R+. Those interfaces
provide a UART that is equivalent (except or PTT timing
issues) to a motherboard serial port.

Set the "PTT" or "PTT & FSK" port on the MMTTY TX tab to the
port you have defined for FSK in microHAM Router. In addition
set WinWarbler's RTTY "modulation and transceiver mode" to
FSK LSB and select your FSK port in the FSK Control box.

I apologize if this question has been asked and answered.
I'm running FSK RTTY with a K3 and MicroHAM II. WinWarbler
(RTTY tab)
does not remember my serial port but instead indicates EXTFSK on
boot-MMTTY also opens on EXTFSK. Changing WW to my actual comport
(#13) also changes MMTTY. My FSK RTTY operates FB with Com
13 but not
with EXTFSK. My other digital modes are FB too. Do I have
to live with
resetting my FSK com port each time the WW program is opened or is
there some way to get WW to memorize the com port?

Re: EXTFSK

USB Interface II and USB Interface III do use EXTFSK. See
the set-up guides for USB II/USB II and Commander/WinWarbler
available through the "Help | Download Documents" link in
Router or from the files area of the microHAM group on Yahoo
<>.

The USB II guide is also available through the DXLab Wiki -

Re: USB to Serial Port Adaptors

That Keyer has a USB to serial port chip in it, model FT232RL
manufactured by FTDI. I wouldn't be surprised to find that
Microham is using the same chip (Joe?).
microHAM use FTDI USB UART chipsets. Most of the current designs
use the FT232R but older units used other FTDI chips like the
FT232B. However, the same driver package supports all of the
chipsets.

Note, FTDI support two modes of operation - VCP (virtual COM
Port) and D2XX (DLL calls). The problem K6KR refers to is one
in which some vendors disable the D2XX modes in their drivers
(or distribute older drivers that did not support D2XX).
Fortunately, such irresponsible behavior had generally faded
and FTDI have released "common" drivers for all 32/64 bit
versions of Windows (Windows 2000 - Windows 7) as of 3 Nov
2009.

One of the things that I was surprised and pleased about after
installing Windows 7 is that when I plugged in my K1EL WKUSB
keyer, the
USB driver installed automatically without a hitch and it
worked right
off the bat with no hassle. That Keyer has a USB to serial
port chip in
it, model FT232RL manufactured by FTDI. I wouldn't be
surprised to find
that Microham is using the same chip (Joe?). I just did some Googling
for FT232L and found that there are a number of manufactures
making USB
to Serial port adapter cables utilizing that chip and most
are selling
for between $10 and $20. If any one has tried or is willing
to try one
of those I'm sure members of this group would like to hear about it.
