The only problem with using another bit of equipment, permanently hooked in, in the house, is that you can suffer, as I did, a complete wreck when lightning hits. It took out both my ham and the family computers. Guess where a back up was! Yep, lost both of them,. but luckly had the pen drive, which was unhooked and laying in a drawer nearby. It happened while I was in Texas, and had everything unhooked, except my Rigblaster attached to the TS570, a tuner attached to the IC706, It apparently came in on the computer line so destroyed both computers and router plus wireless mdem from the broadband company (wireless broadband). So, now, when I close down, the pen drive comes out as well, so unless the house burns down! (I tried that too- hint - dont forget to turn off the stove when finished cooking fries).

Thanks, Danny -- I'm working on that right now, but I'll have to cut it short in a bit and head for California! Anyway -- I got an enclosure for the hard drive from my dead laptop, got it all installed (physically) last night, but this computer won't "see" it! The oldest son's machine in the other room finds it and shows it as a hard drive immediately, but this machine won't. The difference in the two is this machine runs XP and his runs Vista, but the paperwork says XP should do what Vista is doing. Guess I'll have to figure it out. This machine has three physical hard drives in it, so currently I'm using the command-line part of Winzip to .zip the DXLabs folder onto each of the other two drives on alternating evenings. Not as good as having it off-site, but probably better than nothing. Of course, as a review -- what caused this whole thing was my laptop going to laptop heaven. Fortunately my log was still there on the hard drive, waiting for me to get it and move it to the other computer. 7 3 Earl -- KD5XB -- Earl Needham Clovis, New Mexico DM84jk Quoting from the Coast Guard: ZUT No virus found in this incoming message.
