The IC-7800 has a DB9 jack marked RS-232C that provides a built-in
CI-V interface. You will need to set Miscellaneous (Others) Set Mode
(in the Icom Menu system) to CI-V in order to enable the CI-V function.
I can not find any reference whether use of the RS-232C interface
requires a "straight through", "Null Modem" or "Gender Changer"
type cable in the manual (whether the IC7800 is DTE or DCE).

I am running an Icom 7800 which I had hooked up to DX Lab until about a
year ago when we moved. I cannot remember for the life of me how I had it
hooked up but am thinking a ran an RS-232 cable from the rig to the pc. I
cannot get it to run now and am thinking perhaps I do not have the right
cable. Can someone please advise this OM?
+ You must connect a COM port on your computer to an Icom CI-V interface, which is in turn connected to the Remote jack on the backpanel of your IC-7800. You can build or buy the CI-V interface; see
+ If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to post them here.
