One thing that can affect how loud the radio sounds is the IF Gain adjustment on the 2nd IF/Audio board. The adjustment given in the service manual is vague. Too low and the radio will not be as loud

The can capacitor is additional filtering, mostly. The other one that can be a problem is the one in the cathode circuit of the audio amp. It¡¯s a 10 uF, 25V and is used to bring the cathode to AC
