Re: TR7 low band TX oscillation
Hi,
Sorry for the delay.
Thanks for the advices.
I've tested my TR7 with an external "laboratory" PSU and saw that the RF signals (LO, BFO, etc...) were all affected by a heavy noise.
My scope on

Re: TR-4

Sweeps were designed for pulse operation. Low average, very high peak power. That's why they can be run so hard with CW or unprocessed SSB.

well keep in mind that the tubes were designed as horizontal output tubes
for TV sets. That is continuous operation. What kills them is when you
exceed what the ratings are and what the manual tells

Re: TR-4

I was trying for a G rating.
Pushing the output from 150W to 200W is less than 2dB but can exceed tube ratings (17.5W per tube, so 52.5W per trio)/.6 = 87.5W, continuous. So running 200+W out is

Re: Going price for twins
Thanks Steve. The R4A, that I have is a 13 tube receiver and the PS was rebuilt in the spring of this year.
Now I have an idea what they might be worth.

Re: Going price for twins
The older Twins¡¯ value is determined by, in this order, cosmetic condition, operative condition and which version of the receiver you have. It¡¯s a somewhat complex calculation.

I will qualify that.
200W, on 40 & 80, into a dummy load.
180W on 20
150+ on 15 & 10.
Yes, 100W is low, especially with replaced tubes -- though 8 years is enough time to wear them out if proper

Can someone please give me an idea what a R4A and T4X might be worth.
I have a pair and would like to part with it. I just spent a small fortune on new tubes for the R4A. Guess I will need to eat

I /believe/ the "pointed end" (with the lead sticking out) is + ?
Tantalums do NOT like to be hooked up reverse polarity!
