Re: SPR-4 tuning
Thank you for answering. This is what I found, assuming that the number on the very bottom line of the xtal selector scale indicates the slot being used, which of course should be in line with the

FYI, you can pick one of your calls to use for all of the FD stations. You aren¡¯t required to have a club call. Steve Wedge, W1ES Former FD Chairman of three clubs many times since 1984 Time flies

Re: Drakes at field day
Speaking of inverters and field day, a friend has an inverter generator that creates havoc on the HF bands. Not usable for field day. Has anyone else ran into this? My generator is just an old

Re: TR-4 : Constant tone with 100kHz Calibrator
Hi Scott, I set the 9 MHz oscillator a few weeks ago to as close to 9.000 as I could get it and I think I have set the calibrator as well but I will recheck those. Thanks for the details on that. I

Re: Drakes at field day
I have been using a 5000W pure sinewave inverter (not so sure about pure but I don¡¯t get any interference from it) for years. The difference in cost between a 1000W and a 5000W inverter is minimal.

Re: TR-4 : Constant tone with 100kHz Calibrator
Barry: As Gerry mentioned in his post below, if the 100 kHz calibrator is on frequency (within, say no more than 2 Hz @ 100 kHz), the calibrator would be effectively inaudible even if it gets into the

I figured that would be the case but I thought the question was worth asking, especially since I couldn't find the transmitter power draw in the manual or online.? The old inverter I have is of

Re: TR-4 : Constant tone with 100kHz Calibrator
Barry, So the IF is picking up a harmonic of the 100KHz. I could be wrong, but the BFO/CarrierOsc should actually be on 9.000MHz. If your 100KHz is also exactly on 100.000KHz, you should not hear any

Re: Drakes at field day
To borrow a line from the movie "Jaws" - "I think you're gonna need a bigger inverter"... A 200 watt inverter is TINY, and it looks like the AC-4 wants about 400-500 watts all by itself, based on some

Re: SPR-4 tuning
Peter, From top to bottom, your pictures show the Crystal Selector Switch set for tuning ranges of 8.5 to 9.0 MHz, 11.5 to 12 MHz, and 6.0 to 6.5 MHz.? I see a 7.0 to 7.5 MHz range for 40 meters, but

Re: SPR-4 tuning
Peter: I didn't check all the positions but it looks to me as if the previous owner(s?) has removed the xtals for the 0.5 and 1.0 Mhz positions and moved all the xtals "down" to fill those two slots,

Re: TR-4 : Constant tone with 100kHz Calibrator
There is definitely a strong calibrator signal at pin 6 but I'd expect that to be the case. Not sure what the 100pFis there for but, perhaps, for RF far above 100kHz? I tried placing a 150pF in
