Re: TR-4C Problems with 28.0 and 28.5 bands
UPDATE! WOW! I got a PM that directed me to check the 2 ohm resistor on the board by the relay and that was FRIED! Along with the 27 ohm resistor below it. They both were cracked in half which I

Re: 6HS6 vs 6AH6 vs 6J5P
I may need to do this for the 6AH6 vs 6HS6. I have a decent signal generator now, so at least single-signal can be evaluated. Steve Wedge, W1ES Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Re: Cleaning/degreasing Chemicals?? ?
*** Yes! That was the sort of transformer my dear departed DX40 had. In a can, sealed with tar or something. If it had been an open-frame transformer, I would have taken it apart and rewound it. -

Re: TR7, considering TIP29 as a replacement for EP487
Thanks Glen. I'm working with ngspice embedded in KiCad and have worked up a simplified circuit to simulate the DC operating point of the system. I think I finally have it working well enough to give

I pass along the practice at Hewlett-Packard service centers. We washed pretty much everything. Equipment was first opened Moisture sensitive items, like panel meters and anything like paper, were

I see this calibrator has been manufactured with two different type tuning capacitors: a ceramic housing and a metal housing. ?I¡¯m familiar with the ceramic housing capacitors having a mica

Re: TR7, considering TIP29 as a replacement for EP487
Hi Jim, No I do not see in the software or accompanying booklet where it will generate a Spice model. It looks like a simple BJT single point model format can be found here:

Re: 6HS6 vs 6AH6 vs 6J5P
Jim, I've only tested them so far on 40m, but since the receiver noise figure is set by the 12BZ6, I don't expect any significant impact by changing the first mixer. I swapped between the 6HS6 and the

The next question would be how do they impact weak signal performance and AGC action? "Dave W7GZ via groups.io" <w7gz@...> wrote: -- 73 -Jim NU0C

Re: 6HS6 vs 6AH6 vs 6J5P
I still have a few. New 6JB6s are north of $40 NOS. Matched sets are higher per piece. One thing to remember with the finals is that you really only have to be within around 20% with them. They

I have washed dozens of tube-type sets over the years and have not had any transformer failures. I¡¯m not saying that it¡¯s impossible (you have shown that it isn¡¯t) but with care (and never

Re: 6HS6 vs 6AH6 vs 6J5P
Steve, I did a little poking around after your statement at the end. The 6GB5 is a very similar tube, and the 6P36S is a direct substitute for it. It's pretty inexpensive from the Soviet bloc right

Re: Cleaning/degreasing Chemicals?? ?
That would not be as efficient as heating. You need to eradicate moisture from inside any transformers, etc. The method was used for years by Tektronix and other companies. Steve Wedge, W1ES Time

This is the first that I have heard about these Russian tubes. Thanks for taking this on and doing a basic comparison. It is good to have alternatives for these scarce and expensive 6HS6 tubes. I know

Re: Drake R4C myseriously dead
The R4C must be muted in the back or it won't work. Use the correct Plug and short it (ground to center) and plug it in the Mute connection and see if that does it for you to get the R4C working.

any do's and don'ts here? Curious about the two lights on front. Need to get the front panel off to try to figure out why the input switch is out of sync with the final band switch Ronnie
